WMC plays recorded tv OK, but the screen icons and controls won't dissappear during playback. Even though the mouse is not moving, the little circle next to the cursor pop's up every 5 seconds, keeping the controls from fading. It's only during video playback, not music.
Vista Home Premium 32, SP1, with an ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics card and an ATI TV Wonder tuner.
Sometimes when watching a video in vista media center, the screen control's won't auto hide. The mouse cursor also won't disappear like it should when mouse is kept idle. A reboot of PC fixes problem but I'm hoping someone has a solution other than having to restart my computer multiple times in a day.

What I want to do is use a Vista Tablet to be able to control the large screen so can present documents on it such as PowerPoint slide shows and be able to use the functions of the tablet i.e. using the stylus pen to add notes on top of the current document shown on the large screen. Basically use the large screen as a external monitor but have it connect through a wireless network. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so what do I need to get it working.
View 4 Replies View RelatedEvery time I get one of those UAC prompts asking me to authorize an administrative action my LCD screen flashes when the box pops up. This is caused by the switch to the secure desktop, similar to what happens when you hit CTRL + ALT + DELETE. The only difference is that the background is a snapshot of your desktop that gives it the effect that it is just a pop up window. Although if you look carefully you will notice it is static since the clock does not change and anything else that was animated is now static. The secure desktop provides an extra level of security to UAC by making it immune to any application that may try to automate the click on the allow button bypassing the purpose of UAC.
This sounds like a great thing but it is really annoying to me. I hate that screen flicker. Rather than disable UAC, there is a better alternative. Instead, I can just disable the secure desktop switch that causes the flicker. I know this is not as secure but it is better than disabling UAC completely.Â

After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.

On vista the administrator account is showing as a icon on the login screen. I dont want this to be visible, any ideas how to hide this?. I saw a registry hack but this removes the icon but it seems in doing so there is then no way to login without the icon.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Ultimate installed on a laptop. The onboard audio uses Sountek as the driver but Vista keeps installing Realtek AC'97 as the driver for it. The realtek driver puts my audio into a situation where I get the red 'X' bu the speaker in the taskbak, along with something about 'No audio device is installed'. When I einstall the Soundtek drivers, the audio comes back and works fine. Windows update has installed the Realtek drivers about 5-6 times in the last week and it is time consuming to keep reverting it back to a functional state. Is there a fix to keep this from happening in the future?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust installed Vista RC1 yesterday on my Packard Bell R0900 Notebook. Everything went well with the install, until it came to the performance test... I let it run for 1,5 hours and nothing seemed to happen (screen went black in the beginning, but that was all). So I decided to not let him do the test (after a hard reboot). And all looked fine, except for:
- Opening windows give a big lag (like control panel). It takes about 5 sec to load one window!
- Same for the start menu...
- On fading when for example vista asks whether you will allow something to run, makes it lag alot too... (Same when shutting down or logging of (the fade takes like 20 secs).
- When typing something, it takes like 3 secs to show the first letters...
I have been using vista for about a year and three days ago it removes my admin account and swaps My account to just a regular user. Which now I have no control over my vista os. Any time I try to log in as amin, or add software or remove software its says ACCESS DENIED. No matter what I do I get a box that asks for the admins password(never has been one) But there is no where to even put a pw in.Its greyed out and the “ok” button is greyed out also. So to me it’s a catch22. I have even sent this same note to Microsoft and to other tech folks and they all seem stumped.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I bring up a news group, it runs out of control with the sidebar running all the way to the bottom. And I can't bring it back to the top. The only way I can do this is to unplug my USB plug which controls the mouse. Once I do that I can pull the sidebar back up to the top just perfectly, by using the mouse pad on the laptop. If I plug the usb plug back in (for the mouse) the sidebar crashes to the bottom of the screen. I am using a M1710 Dell Laptop. It works great but this problem of the sidebar running out of control while the usb mouse is in use, is a new one. At the same time the screen saver won't work either.

I have eVGA Precision (GPU overclocking and monitoring software) set not to run at startup. but to start and up the default videocard fan speed. then it closes, its a setting in the program. So i have it set to turn up the fan speed at startup. but the program doesn't continue to run. BUTTTT everytime i start the PC the annoying UAC pops up instantly wanting me to "allow" evga precision to run. So can I setit to ALWAYS allow it.. without disabling the UAC

Everything seemed fine except UAC was turned off. I turned it back on and restarted, it didn't appear. Then the next day it appeared. i am unable to open links in my emails, the error i get is: this file does not havea program associated with it for performing this action create an association in the set asociations control panel.
I am using Vista ultimate x64bit.
Suddenly I cannot access the control panel or vista update or Backup,also the shortcut to Administrative tools is no longer there.
I have searched in vain with google and have not found a solution to this problem.
I cant open the control panel on my system either fron the desktop shortcut or the start menu. I did think it may be a driver issue after i upgraded my 8800gtxoc2 to the latest nvidia driver. I decided to do a system restore to just before i did the instalation, but after 6 attempts on several restore points they have all failed. I have strated my comp up in safe mode and removed the driver but the problem is still there. i have restarted the software licence but i am stuck now and need some advice before i bite the bullet and reformat. Using the origional vista disk is there a way of doing a re-instal without losing my data.

I'm thinking of getting a laptop which I could use in the room next door (my lounge)- the laptop could 'talk' to the rest of my setup via my wireless router. View 6 Replies View RelatedI did a clean install. (RC1 - Build 5600) At first, everything was working great, then the next day I have nothing in Control Panel. From the Start Menu it says (empty) after attempting to load it for 20-ish seconds. If I click the desktop shortcut, it will load the window frame with no content, then just close after 5 seconds. In Windows Explorer I can expand the Control Panel from the sidebar, and pick from there, but just selecting Control Panel, again doesn't work. I remember this being corrupted .cpl files back in the 3.x days, same thing maybe? I ran System File Checker, didn't fix it (did find corrupted files though, oi vey).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a question why does my control panel icon move from where I place it when Vista starts up also the Icons inside the control panel a HUGE! they have tiny lettering under them but man Stevie Wonder could see these! I mean I might have six Icons showing. I can move the control panel to the top and go into IE8 and boom bottom left hand corner which is where it always goes to. Any thoughts? I would be happy to leave it there but the icons inside now that's another thing. TIA for considerations.........
