i just checked my windows update box and there was an optional update there which stated....8800GT VIDEO UPDATE so i thought great installed it ...now the screen flickers constantly and the enter button wont work whats going on. im currently running 174.16 with the modded file ..could this be the issue but gaming still seems flawless no flicker or jitter.

The picture on my desktop backround flickers and 75% of most internet sites I visit cause me the same problem. I have tried changing the resolution, changing the screen refresh rate, changing from 75 hertz all the way down to 60. I've followed all of the directions when troubleshooting.

When I went to "Installed Updates" ( not update history ), I couldn't find optional updates that I had installed, i.e. MS Silverlight 1.0 (KB946609). All I saw were those downloaded automatically. So, how do I uninstall the optionals when I need to ? That Silverlight is a little intrusive. I had to do a system restore to get rid of it.

The wireless network connection to the the Belkin is listed under 'connect to a network' with a strong signal, and the computer I am typing on is connected so I know the router is working, but zi get the message that Windows cannot connect to belkin54g. When I go to uninstall these updates, they are no listed that I installed them and therefore cannot remove them...
I just bought an Acer Aspire AX1300 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32x and an Nvidia GE 8200 video card for storing data and, more importantly, to play shows and movies through my 1080p Mitsubishi HDTV. It is connected through native HDMI and the cable is high quality and works perfectly fine with my Gateway laptop to the same TV.
The video looks great as long as the screen is static, like on the desktop or surfing most websites. But as soon as any motion or video is displayed the screen starts to frequently flicker every couple seconds, and sometimes cuts out to black completely for 3-5 seconds, until the TV picks the signal up again........
Spec - Dell Inspiron 531, AMD 64 Dual processor 5000, 2 gig ram, 32 bit vista home, Nvidia GForce 6150SE nForce 430, IIyama Prolite E380S. Over the last couple of weeks my monitor has started to flicker for a second or so everytime a program launches. I've checked my drivers etc and they all seem upto date and I've checked all my hardware is ok. I can live with it but my wife has been nagging me to death about it!

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy computer is stuck at the windows update screen when I boot it up. A week or so ago I had some trouble installing a program. Looking for a solution, eventually I found that my windows hadn't been updating for several months. Trying to update manually didn't work and I got an error message. Googling that error message was what brought me to vistax64.com in the first place, and after reading around a bit I managed to determine that I was missing my Windows Update Module (unsure about the exact name). I followed a tutorial that led me into regedit to delete some keys. Now, to the matter at hand: after deleting these keys and restarting, my windows got stuck at the update screen. It says something like: "Configuring update 3 of 3 - 0% Do not turn off or bla bla bla" for a few minutes, without the percentage changing, then restarts. Problem is, when it restarts it displays the exact same message and does the same thing all over again. So it gets caught in a restart loop. I have tried booting from my Vista DVD and have tried the startup repair thing, but that isn't any help. I don't have any save points to restore from, nor a backup. So - the question is: Is there anything I can do about this without having to format and reinstall Windows?

Apart from what came from the manufacturer, this machines is pretty much clean - that is other than the Trend Micro Security suite installed, there is nothing else. Maybe the Adobe Flash and Adobe reader. I have downloaded the SP1 and installed it. The installation went smooth until it shutdowns and restart - message was something like - 1 of 3 updates... x% It went for about 6 hours apparently idle - the screen is black with the cursor blinking on top left corner and non responsive. I decided to turn it off and when reboot the machine displays a message - Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen with the cursor on the top left corner and unresponsive.. Tried to reboot in safe mode and it does not work - it just displays a message Resuming Windows and goes back to a black screen...

It's not listed as a Program on Control Panel I've tried to download it, but it won't download. I've searched other sites, nothing helps. I succeded in installing it first time, but when I next ran windows update and rebooted, after the logon screen I just got a black screen with the mouse pointer and nothing else. I restored from an image, did all the updates, then installed the SP1 - same problem. Now I restored image, and applied SP1 (without running windows update first) and have the same problem. No problems on my home built desktop, just the laptop. Really pissed with Vista just now.

View 9 Replies View Relatedit's getting kinda boring now surely those nuggets over at microsoft are aware of all the problems with vista since i changed over i have made it a point to make sure i only use vista compatable hardware and software but that doesn't seem to help as the only stable software that runs(without crashing) was programmed for XP now that is just silly and a software company's excuse is ''we had to rush it onto the market'' so what does that mean, did they not even test their software now wishing i got a mac instead as microsoft and software company's need to pull their fingers out and start doing things properly i would rather wait 6 months for a game or app that actually works than spend the money to find out that it doesn't do what it says on the box all this due to the fact that not one app or game designed with vista in mind will run without crashing repeatedly over and over again so what does vista do other than try to look good not alot just gives you a headache as you wonder yet again why your computer has either crashed or just shut down what seemed to be an app or game that didn't seem to have a problem when it all of a sudden ends the app or game it even closed chess on me as it encountered a problem i understand that these things do happen but not on this scale this is just to often and microsoft really need a shoe put up there rear for not addressing these issue's sooner.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've installed windows vista ultimate x64 in a brand new Gateway GT4220m that originally came with Windos Vista Home Premium. After the drama to find the required drivers for it, all seemed to work fine. All updates for the system and the drivers where downloaded. Anyhow, suddenly the system started to show a warning telling that there was a problem with the STacSV.exe
Now it does not appear very often, but the system freezes and it is needed to reinitiate it turning off the machine. I've noticed that it hapens when I use itunes, WM or play pictures in a presentation mode. If the machine goes to hibernation mode, it won´t wake up, so it is needed to turn it off again. I am unable to use the windows media center as well. Would it be OK to reinstall all the drivers? Do I have to run the Windows Vista installation in repair mode or reinstall it clean again ?
I reformatted by Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop a couple of months ago and everything's been working perfectly until a Windows SP2 update automatically installed itself last week - now Windows Media center opens up constantly (very distracting); I've removed it from services and from startup, but it continues to pop open....
View 6 Replies View RelatedRecently, it seems, a lot of vista machines are experiencing explorer crashes. Mostly mine are from ntdll.dll but they are all split. It also mostly crashes when I move files, open control panel, or right click, the latter being the most significant. I have disabled every programs' context menu to see if it was that and nothing. It still crashed. ShellExView doesn't seem to do any good either. I've been using autoruns from SysInternals. I'm going to upload all the crash information.
Other than that there isnt much else to explain. Usually I'll be working along then boom, explorer is restarting... It even did it to me just from adding a quick launch icon. I have no idea what the cause is. Well here are the crash events in order of occurrence, top being most recent:......
CPU is running a constant 50%. I have only had this computer for a month and at first it did not do this. then it started every couple of reboots then almost every reboot, but for a while i was able to boot to safe mode and tool around for a bit and then reboot normal and everything would be in sync. I can tell when the comp is booting up if the CPU is going to act up or not, the circle thing by the mouse during the boot up gets jerky and the intro music will be off from the visual..
i have tried turning off the OC but this has no effect. i have to have the OC or the system severely lags. right after this started if i would adjust the OC level it would have some effect ie.. make the cpu normal but now i can do what ever i want and it sits at 50%. While this is happening there are no apps running. and the standard processes but none using more than 04% of the cpu......
recently windows has started to reboot itself after sitting idle for a while. I just got this computer in January of this year so it came with Vista preloaded and I am relly getting frustrated with this. I thought it might be virus associated but Norton does not report anything.

However, the automatic update seems to have overwritten my network configuration from the original. The PC automatically loses its connection about every 1 minute, then establishes a new connection for about 1 minute. After resetting the modem and router, the problem went away; that is until I had to reboot my machine. So, now I have to reboot my modem, router and PC at roughly the same time to get an internet connection that doesn't constantly drop and reconnect. how to keep the connection good between boots, so I don't have to reset the modem and router?

I noticed that my curser kept having the little blue circle come up to signify something is working in the background, this has happened for the last 2 days. I have checked and RapportService.exe is constantly running even when not connected to the Internet and uses up to 50% of CPU. Following advice from previous threads I downloaded Malwarebytes and it has found 2 things and deleted them, they were Adware and Wormp2p. However RapportService.exe is still wirring away. I know this is the software from the Banks so am worried that someone is trying to attack my PC and that it is why it is constantly going. I upgraded to Internet Explorer 8 yesterday so dont know if that has any bearing on it. Also have Norton 360.
