Stuck On Installing Updates And Rebooting

Sep 4, 2009

I've been facing the following problem, - actually i'm not been able to solve it - with the last Vista update the system has rebooted and says it is installing updates and reboot and says it is installing updates and goes like that for ever. I can't get the hand on it. Is there a way to solve it without restoring everything but maybe only the system or the boot part ?

Will Not Work Without Rebooting

Mar 22, 2009

Every time I start thinking Vista is not so bad I make the mistake of trying to connect to another Vista computer. Although all sharing/permissions are properly set and it worked the last time it will not work when needed again without rebooting one or more computers. This is why mine and nearly every business on the face of the Earth has not adapted Vista: it is totally unsuitable for mission critical networks of any size. XP is far from perfect but it is orders of magnitude more stable for networking. Vista SP3 or whatever name Microsoft thinks they can peddle the same schlock under is a deader than dead issue already because it is nothing but Vista with a marginally different GUI and with the economy the way it is who gives a rat's behind about it anyway?

Rebooting Randomly

May 13, 2008

I have a computer running Vista Ultimate w/ all the latest updates (including SP1) and latest drivers/bios from the manufacturer and my computer looks like it is rebooting randomly in the middle of the night. I noticed I leave it on all the time and my apps are closed. When I look in the event log, it says: The previous system shutdown at 4:02:19 AM on 5/13/2008 was unexpected. I also checked if there are any memory dumps and there aren't any. I'm stumpted why this is happening if this is due to a hardware failure or a software/driver crash related issue.

6 Important Updates As Of 03.12.2010, Hide The Updates

Mar 11, 2010

Desktop PC will be one year next month. I did not renew the Microsoft Office after trial period that came as a package w/ no future intention of acquiring it. I'm using the free Open Office program - word processing mostly at this time. Is there anything in the list below that is of importance? I only have a basic PC with DVD player for movies, etc. No scanner, printer or fax. Not even external hard drive or usb flash drive. Otherwise, I understand that I can just choose to hide the updates, so it will not keep reminding me. Also, I choose to keep my OS w/ Srvce pk 1 and MS IE version 7 for as long as I'll be able to. I had too many probs with Srvce pk 2 and MS IE version 8. Your opinion, if any, is welcome.......

Rebooting, Won't Get To Login Screen

Jun 9, 2009

I've just instaled SP2 for Vista on a clean install and it constantly keep rebooting, it won't get to the login screen. It's not even booting into Safe Mode. So far the boot goes as far as "Configuring Updates: State 3 of 3 Complete 0%" And then it restarts. The most annoying thing is that I haven't installed any updates, for this to happen. All other updates that need to be done are finished and the computer has rebooted a number of times before hand. I've got all my drivers and such updated but the problem still persists. The only way I can get around it is by reinstalling the OS all over again. I've tried System restore but even with that the problem continues.

Vista Wont Install, Rebooting

Last night i tried to install vista, but after loading the disc in and rebooting, it went through the windows is copying files bar with the black background, then it went to the green vista loading bar, then it went to a blue/green background with a mouse cursor and said installing windows. I left it there for an hour, and it didnt change. I then rebooted into XP, and ran the installer from windows, where i selected which drive to install to, and then it copied and expanded the setup files. It then rebooted, and after the
vista load bar it went to a black screen with a mouse cursor. i left it there for an hour and no change. Ive got new hardware in my computer, and after running the vista compatibility tool it said i'd have no issues running any version of vista. I was trying to install Home Premium btw.

Restarting And Rebooting Can Not Lower Tempature

Nov 10, 2009

One of my Intel Core 2 Quad processor cores has a temperature consistently lower than the other 3 cores, WHY? I have a question. I need to know the reason why one of my cores (Core 2) is running about 3-4 degrees below the temperatures of the other 3 cores on my Intel Core 2 Quad processor. Restarting and rebooting seems not to help, it is always the same core with the lower temperature. Is there something wrong with that particular core or something overly defective with the processor itself??? It rarely ever fluctuates and stays at 33 degrees Celsius. The other core temperatures are around 36-37 degrees at rest/idle and do frequently go up when an action is performed on the computer.

Please let me know what is going on with this consistent core 2 temperature and please provide me with a reason why this is happening. Is it something that is beginning to go with this processor? Is there anything that can be done about it to get all four (4) core temperatures in balance.

Rebooting Has No Effect. AVG Doesn't Find Anything

Feb 28, 2009

I have Vista Home Premium 64 bit. It has recently started going ding from time to time for no apparent reason. There is no dialog that pops up, and I haven't found any activity that alters the frequency of occurence, however the occurances are extremely erratic on one occasion there were several so close together they overlapped, I might get two or more in a five minute period or none for hours. I think they are becoming more frequent, but that could just be that I notice them more. Rebooting has no effect. AVG doesn't find anything.

I have found nothing that tells me why it is doing it - there are no entries in the system events that correspond to the dings. The only thing I have been able to establish is that taskeng.exe does access the file "C:WindowsMediaWindows Ding.wav" at the same time. This instance of taskeng is running under the logged in user credentials. Looking in Task Scheduler the task status doesn't change after a ding - indicating that an existing task, or the engine itself, is responsible. The list of running tasks shows the following MsCtfMonitor(Hidden, runs at user logon) SystemSoundService (runs at user logon)SystemTask (runs at system start)TMM (runs at user logon)UserTask (runs at user logon)

The last entry for these under history is "task started", except for SystemTask, and UserTask, which every 8 hours are rerun so show additional start and stop entries. The only errors are that UserTask fails to stop, and is restarted, when the system is shutting down, and SystemStart fails when the system starts due to a lack of a network connection, but does start shortly thereafter.ra.com/mail/

Constantly Crash's

Jan 5, 2008

it's getting kinda boring now surely those nuggets over at microsoft are aware of all the problems with vista since i changed over i have made it a point to make sure i only use vista compatable hardware and software but that doesn't seem to help as the only stable software that runs(without crashing) was programmed for XP now that is just silly and a software company's excuse is ''we had to rush it onto the market'' so what does that mean, did they not even test their software now wishing i got a mac instead as microsoft and software company's need to pull their fingers out and start doing things properly i would rather wait 6 months for a game or app that actually works than spend the money to find out that it doesn't do what it says on the box all this due to the fact that not one app or game designed with vista in mind will run without crashing repeatedly over and over again so what does vista do other than try to look good not alot just gives you a headache as you wonder yet again why your computer has either crashed or just shut down what seemed to be an app or game that didn't seem to have a problem when it all of a sudden ends the app or game it even closed chess on me as it encountered a problem i understand that these things do happen but not on this scale this is just to often and microsoft really need a shoe put up there rear for not addressing these issue's sooner.

Windows X64 Constantly Crashes

Apr 5, 2008

I've installed windows vista ultimate x64 in a brand new Gateway GT4220m that originally came with Windos Vista Home Premium. After the drama to find the required drivers for it, all seemed to work fine. All updates for the system and the drivers where downloaded. Anyhow, suddenly the system started to show a warning telling that there was a problem with the STacSV.exe

Now it does not appear very often, but the system freezes and it is needed to reinitiate it turning off the machine. I've noticed that it hapens when I use itunes, WM or play pictures in a presentation mode. If the machine goes to hibernation mode, it won´t wake up, so it is needed to turn it off again. I am unable to use the windows media center as well. Would it be OK to reinstall all the drivers? Do I have to run the Windows Vista installation in repair mode or reinstall it clean again ?

Explorer Crashes Constantly

Sep 24, 2009

Recently, it seems, a lot of vista machines are experiencing explorer crashes. Mostly mine are from ntdll.dll but they are all split. It also mostly crashes when I move files, open control panel, or right click, the latter being the most significant. I have disabled every programs' context menu to see if it was that and nothing. It still crashed. ShellExView doesn't seem to do any good either. I've been using autoruns from SysInternals. I'm going to upload all the crash information.

Other than that there isnt much else to explain. Usually I'll be working along then boom, explorer is restarting... It even did it to me just from adding a quick launch icon. I have no idea what the cause is. Well here are the crash events in order of occurrence, top being most recent:......
