Spec - Dell Inspiron 531, AMD 64 Dual processor 5000, 2 gig ram, 32 bit vista home, Nvidia GForce 6150SE nForce 430, IIyama Prolite E380S. Over the last couple of weeks my monitor has started to flicker for a second or so everytime a program launches. I've checked my drivers etc and they all seem upto date and I've checked all my hardware is ok. I can live with it but my wife has been nagging me to death about it!

The picture on my desktop backround flickers and 75% of most internet sites I visit cause me the same problem. I have tried changing the resolution, changing the screen refresh rate, changing from 75 hertz all the way down to 60. I've followed all of the directions when troubleshooting.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just bought an Acer Aspire AX1300 with Windows Vista Home Premium 32x and an Nvidia GE 8200 video card for storing data and, more importantly, to play shows and movies through my 1080p Mitsubishi HDTV. It is connected through native HDMI and the cable is high quality and works perfectly fine with my Gateway laptop to the same TV.
The video looks great as long as the screen is static, like on the desktop or surfing most websites. But as soon as any motion or video is displayed the screen starts to frequently flicker every couple seconds, and sometimes cuts out to black completely for 3-5 seconds, until the TV picks the signal up again........
I have 64 bit vista ultimate, when I connect mt laptop to tv via HDMI cable and play any movie, TV screen flickers. but runs OK on laptop screen. Also if I connect my laptop to tv via s-video then this problem goes away. I do not know why....
Is there any setting to done on TV or on laptop to rum via HDMI. Please advise.
i recently instald a e-geforce 6200 graphics card on my pc and have had no troubles so far except that my screen flickers when i play world of warcraft. It only does so when im in fullscreen mode, if i run it in windowed mode it works perfectly fine is there something or someway i could resolve this. i recently bought a 32" lcd hdtv i use as a monitor, my pc is an intel 2 duo 2.8ghz processor, 1 gig ram and i also recently instaled windows vista home premium 32 bit versoin if specs on my pc help with an ansewer any.
View 8 Replies View Relatedi just checked my windows update box and there was an optional update there which stated....8800GT VIDEO UPDATE so i thought great installed it ...now the screen flickers constantly and the enter button wont work whats going on. im currently running 174.16 with the modded file ..could this be the issue but gaming still seems flawless no flicker or jitter.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

I keep all my sidebar gadgets to the other monitor so I can monitor temps and system diagnostics. Today, my sidebar is on my main monitor and no mater what I do it won't go back to monitor-2, no mater what the setting is in the sidebar properties. What is going on here?

View 6 Replies View RelatedIve been having a few problems with uninstalling some programs via the add/remove programs tool. For example I have been trying to uninstall Itunes and everytime I do Windows installer says it is preparing to remove and then it stops and a window come up that says "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." and then another one says I do not have sufficient access to uninstall Itunes and to please contact system administrator.
So I spoke to a friend how recommended this forum subject and I followed the Take Ownership steps a few times but to no avail it still does the same thing. I can't update Itunes untill this one is uninstalled!!!!!
I use Vista 32 Ultimate and I have this problem during the startup of Windows: The UAC control stops 2 programs and I'm not able to let these programs load with UAC control active. Tried everything also in Windows defender but no success. I must always confirm and let run these programs clicking on the UAC block tray icon that appear during the load of these 2 programs. Someone tell me that these programs blocked by UAC must be updated from the developers to pass the UAC.

All applications started without problems and I was happy. One day, I tried to click on some recently launched applications (such as Firefox which is my default internet browser) but this time, it didn't launch When double-clicking, nothing was happening...
I tried with many other applications, even the Windows Vista ones such as media player and... the same... VLC media player, Firefox, Avira (my antivirus), IE 32 bits,... nothing launches! The only apps apparently not impacted are IE7 64bit, Notepad and Comodo (firewall). Both Windows Defender and Firewall are up and running but nothing happens when I deactivate Comodo and Windows defender/firewall. Still the same. I don't know if this is related to a previous update installation (it's on automatic) but I can't make use of my laptop in such conditions.
I am facing a problem on launching GOW it says some fix need to be done regarding Graphics in Vista.(i.e to download the fix for some memory Kp.). Anyone with same issue.... Please tell me the way to resolve this. Do i need to install SP1 to solve this...???

View 7 Replies View Relatedwhen i go to start, all programs, all my folders/programs show up, but then i noticed that theres a "programs" folder within the list, and when i click that, it shows all the same folders/programs that are in the "all programs" list. but then some of the folders within the ones in the 'all programs" list, they are empty, but they show up in the programs folder in the list. i dont know how this happened and i just wanted to know how to fix this issue.

View 4 Replies View Relatedquick launch was working OK btu then yesterday suddenly my machien froze and the quick launch disappeared. I restarted my machine and yet it was still missing. the odd thing was all my logins and passwords were dleted as well. i went to the properties section and ticked quick launch hit apply nothing happened. it ok and still nothing happened. so i went back into properties and it was untick even though i had ticked it hit apply and ok. it seems it will not register the accpetance. i have restarted my machine several times
btu nothi seems to bring it back
I checked the Users Guide and found reference to the mute volume control button but no where did it indicate how to change any settings.
How do I fix this?
I have my music on a separate hard drive to the rest of windows. If I drag this drive from within My Computer, to the quick launch tool bar to create a short cut. All works fine. I click it, it loads up my music drive and away I go.
Upon restarting, clicking the same quick launch icon does nothing/ sod all/ zilch.
The HDD is internal and is working flawlessly. It can me accessed from within My Computer just fine. When selecting a music file it'll load WMP and play it's heart out. It has the same target as before restart - K: So how come the short cut doesn't work once restarting?
Just two days ago, the shortcuts in the start menu no longer launch any applications. I cleared the list out, went into the start menu / programs and launched the application. Once it repopulated in the frequently used list, it doesn't launch the application. I can still launch it from start menu / programs.

Nevertheless, on this sunny day my icon in the tray shows I'm connected and a very strong signal, but I can't launch Internet Explorer. I have a new Dell Laptop w/ Intel 5100 N Card. In this small condo complex there is available another wireless connection. I put that on today and I can connect and launch IE. However, it is weaker than the first wireless connection which I prefer. What might have happened to the first wireless connection. The icon shows it is strong but no internet.

My system has been behaving erratically these past few days. I have just installed critical updates for windows vista basic 32bit and at restart, some of my quick launch bars icons were showing blanks. I have tried several system restores without much joy there. Trojan and virus scans have also drawn a blank.

Your most recent changes may not be saved. The mail on this workstation was saved from an account that is no longer working. All of the inbox mail was empty and moved to folders. I can see the folder structures when I open the application, but this error closes down the program. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the Windows Live Mail without results.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI shut my computer off last night as I normally do before I went to bed. It shut down without any issues. Everything was the same as it normally is. When I went to turn on my computer today, it goes through the Dell startup screen, then it tells me there might be a problem with some hardware or something to that effect and gives me the option to either “Launch Startup Repair” or “Start Window Normally”, then windows attempts to start (has the green scrolling bar at the bottom). Either of these options take me to the same place next which is a screen that states “System Recovery Options”, and asks me to select my keyboard language. So I did and hit “next” to continue to a screen that asks me to sign into my account on the computer, and then it took me to another page that displayed a box of system recovery tools.
Being a little confused about what was happening, I selected the option for “Startup Repair”. When it finished I chose to restart the computer as it noted that if the problem was fixed it would start normally. It didn’t start normally and I went through the same process again when it rebooted. I have tried this option many times today, and it isn’t working. I also have tried a few times the option for “Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool”. It goes trough the tests, says nothing about finding a problem, then the computer restarts to the same situation............
I have HP Compaq 6710b Vista. I am trying to remove Quick Launch buttons, because they annoy me. Have tried everything, including uninstalling the QLB software Update: I have tried searching the registry for anything QLB-related, but only found following two locations:

These are just Disabled or Adjusted properties, and probably of no use. So to me it appears that there is nothing I can do using registry. Tried searching the hard drive for "qlb" or "quick launch", but apart from some folders and system log files, also little help (There were two folders "QLB" and "QLBTEMP" in C:/SWSetup. I tried removing these folders, and restarting computer, but QL buttons still work)....................
VLC - VideoLan Player Launch problem Fix: Looked high & low for over a month for an answer to why the VLC media player suddenly would not launch after several months of no problems. Maybe this can help someone else. Might be old hat for veterans, I realize - but not for us non-tech experts.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure I'll have to do a install repair, but would like confirmation. It started when friend tried downloading a video file he sent to himself. (so no virus potential) he told the system to open with everything on his system to get it to play. It was a mpeg2 file so it would never play. When he gave up and tried launching a program. Every shortcut on the desktop launches with iexplorer. Properties for the shortcut point to the executable file for the intended program, so I don't get it. if I go to the program files folder and click on the executables, it launches correctly. only the shortcuts have been changed.
