about a week ago i installed Windiws Vista Business. i noticed a couple of times that my PC jusr restarted itself. other than that it worked fine up until last night. it all started with intenet explorer. i couldn't open any website. it said something about corrupted file. so i figured i'll give it a restart. and then the it wouldn;t boot up anymore. it says that windows failed to start.... then it says:
file WINDOWSSYSTEM32DRIVERSacpi.sys
status 0xc000000F
windows failed to start because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt. i already tried to do what it said there. it told me to put in the original CD of vista and click on repair. well that didnt work. it was repairing over 18 hours and nothing is happening.
I've a web site url that apparently is unreachable from my PC (dhcp reserved address), MS Windows Vista Business and IE8, ONLY this website. I checked firewall and antivirus settings, i tried to bypass firewall, but problem persist. I changed from DHCP to Fixed IP, i changed DNS, but none. I also tried from Firefox / Chrome, same problem. Apparently the site is resolved from DNS but then not reachable. The tracert command shows that the request expire immediately, so it seems that the request remains local and is not forwarded outside from my PC....
I've another PC, Windows XP Pro SP3, IE7 (also this dhcp reserved), it's joined in the same domain, so same dchp - dns - gateway and firewall rules...., same problem. This PC is a dual boot with Debian 5, so i tried to boot in linux and surprise...with Firefox that website opens immediately...and the tracert command shows that it is reachable among 4 nodes.... In linux the dhcp and the ip released is the same as XP....so it points to same default gateway and dns.....
I've been getting this error message whenever I try to delete a website or folder from my Favorites. I can click close program and my homepage comes back up. Check online for a solution does nothing. I looked at the details and realized I was running IE 7.0.6001.1800 so I downloaded IE 8, but the problem persists. Right now the only way I can make it happen is by trying to delete something in my Favorites folder, but it has just come up randomly a few times. I googled "Internet Explorer has stopped working" and got lots of pages where other users are having the same problem, suggesting various fixes, but none has worked for me so far. Hope I didn't make a mistake by downloading IE8!
I downloaded: "Realtek-Network-Realtek RTL8168B8111B family PCI-E Gigabyte Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0)" And my IE7 couldn't open any internet pages. Had to Restore to a previous point to get internet navigation again.
i couldn't open a program so i chose "Open as" and didn't realize i had "always use this program for all files" and now nothing at all will open except my browser and everything is saved as a .EXE file i have windows vista. Also whenever i try and download something it saves as a .EXE Im not too tecky so bit by bit instructions would be nice
Could not open my Media Player, no error codes and had just used it. I have Vista 64bit Premium Home version. After reading several posts tried a few things such as:
1) Made sure Media Player was the default (go to Start, Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Play CDs and other media automatically and select appropriate boxes to use Media Player as the default - meaning it will automatically use Media Player). 2) unplugged my MP3 player from the PC (I charge it using the PC, no problem in the past) 3) rebooted my PC I selected Media Player and it popped right up.
Not sure if there's already a thread here like this but I'll give it a shot. I'm curious what opinions everyone has out there about IE 8 B2? So far I've tried it two times. I installed it a few months back when I still had XP and didn't like it at all. Then, after I upgraded to Vista, I tried it again and still didn't like it, 2 months later. Top it all off, I couldn't revert back to IE 7 as easily. I had to completely do a System Restore in order to do so. What's even worse, is even though I did that, some things were all messed up from the process. So I just ended up re-installing Vista to fix it.
So now I'm completely anti-IE8. I love IE entirely. But it just doesn't seem ready yet. I know they're still working on it and is not due for official release until possibly November, however, is that still too soon? Some features I disliked:
Colored tabs. ew. hard on the eyes, what's going on? keep them all the same. Location bar drop down menu. wayyyy too complicated, and right about where I have my mouse when I click it to select a previous website I entered, a small delete button appears and many times I click that and then realize, crap I just deleted it - annoying. Compatibility Option. Okay what's with this? What are they changing that's making it INCOMPATIBLE with websites in the first place? Shouldn't it be compatible with all websites? Kind of annoying to have to even worry about that.
I was trying to access my FTP through vista explorer, but couldn't remember my password. I typed in the wrong password a few times and as a result I can no longer access any of my FTP locations. I have turned off Vista's firewall, turned off AVG, checked the router, made a new port 21 rule, and restarted my PC. I simply can't figure out what might have happened and I can't seen to find any solution.
When I open the first website it takes 42 seconds. The second takes 20 no matter what order I open them. If I close IE or Firefox and re-open the website it takes 32-40 seconds. The second takes 20. When I open the first program it takes 9 seconds. I do not have a lot of programs running, run my utilities regularly, use CCleaner daily. My hardrive has 50 of 150g used. Is there a way to cut down the load time of the initial website?
I had windows XP pro and i bought windows vista home premium upgrade, when i went to install it it said that i couldn't upgrade it. So i followed directions on how to do a custom clean install, where you install vista without typing in the product key and without getting updates then you pick what OS you have and do the custom installation, then you install again (2nd time) and choose upgrade instead of custom and go through the process again.
The problem is after installing it the first time, I couldn't connect to the internet, so I couldn't install it a second time. I have an ASUS PQ5 PRo motherboard and when i start up there is this thing called express gate, in express gate I can use the internet but not when i enter Vista. When I put in the PQ5 Pro DVD vista says it can't open it. Also my XP PRO may have been 64bit, and now I am on Vista32 bit and the disck wont work.
I think the internet is a driver problem, if i go to the asus website on a diff computer and get the ASUS drivers put them on a USB and then open them on vista should this work? WHat drivers do I need? Just the LAN one? Also if the Asus DVD wouldnt start up will that mean that I wont be able to open the drivers on the flash drive too?
When I open windows explorer in either XP or Vista it opens the "My Document" folder as the default. However I only want "My Computer" to be expanded and everything else left unexpanded.
Whenever I click on any of my folders they just won't open I cant even right click on them and press open!! no folders wil open it just says that windows explorer is not responding!
I have read so many different forums and have not found the answer to my problem. Every time I click on the desktop to open an application or go to my computer explorer.exe crashes and I get the following:......i've ran norton, windows defender, anti spyware software, and a family safety critical update to the reg. i have had no luck. btw: i have vista home basic x64. the problem started yesterday afterrunning vista with no problems for six month's. no new software installs, except a quickbooks 2007 update.
When I open Windows Explorer, it goes to Windows/System32 rather than to Documents where it was when closed. What is the mechanism here? How do I get Windows Explorer to re-open where it closed?
little by little I am learning about the differences in XP and Vista. Well, one of them is that Vista no longer uses Documents & Settingsfolder, but a Users folders. If this is true, why do I have a D&S folder under my Vista boot when I do a explore and why can't I open it if I am the administrator?
Since I first startet it my Windows Vista Home Premium has problems with sharing my RAM with more than one process. If I just open one application like 3d max, I can use my full 2GB of RAM. But if I start an internet explorer, a media player and some folders totally using 1GB of RAM, the context menus don't show completely or not at all, folders don't open with the explorer but some other program (mainly my media player). I tried everything, but I just can't resolve that problem.
I dont know how to explain what happened so I'll just leave a screemshoot. This happens with every folder i open on windows explorer. I thought It was SP2 (cause i just installed it) but I uninstalled it and it made no difference at all.
I tried to change Windows Explorer opening folder from default (when you right click Start Menu it opens :UsersxxxxAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart Menu). I did something wrong and now when I try to open Windows Explorer with right click over Start menu nothing happens.
HI i posted a problem that I have with explorer.exe not with iexplorer Bill, please help because i can not open a file in any directory that explorer.exe restarts ant it close me all the windows.
Vista had a freeze up when trying to transfer files from a USB stick - however all seemed normal after a restart. I also "upgraded" to AVG v8.01 (free) I have no idea if either of these actions have caused my problem. Now whenever I open 'any' folder it takes several seconds before the contents appear. After this all other folders open instantly. If I then close all the open folders - this behaviour repeats with the first folder to be opened taking time to open.
I open up window update it opens up with a blank explorer window. it stays open till i force it to close with windows task manager. it forces it to close while restarting my entire explorer at the same time, and it closes out some programs sometimes when it does it too.
have a folder named "Mutimedia" its size is 3 GB and it contains a lot of files (mp3, rm, wav, ...).Many times when I open this folder, I got "Windows Explorer has stopped working" message and the folder stopped working.
now I realize that MS is trying to protect me from all the web baddies. But why can't I log on to their website (hotmail) without turning security off? I've set that site as OK for cookies. But if security is on then it won't accept my password. I'm not typing it wrong, I've had that email for about 6-7 years now. As soon as I turn off security, close IE, open IE I can log on. Then I have to turn on security and close IE, then open for security to be back on. Is there a way I can just log on without turning off security. Or can I convice MS to fix this obvious blunder? Vista Home basic BTW
windows vista home premium/windows media player 11. Today I can no longer play certain mp3's I have. I am told I need a license and to get it, I am sent to a website that does nothing. No information on the website is offered to obtain the license other than to go to certain other websites, and pay for the license.
Up until today, I could play the mp3's with no problems. Perhaps due in part in using "Rhapsody" for the first time. My problem is, how and where exactly do I obtain this "license" which should be free, or at least at bare minimal cost for ALL of my mp3's? Not just a select few. It's my damn property, microsoft ain't gonna tell me how and when i can use it.
I own a website that has been transfered to a different hosting account however I still cannot access the site - everyone else can, including my partner (we live together and share the internet) but I still get the page that we put up saying that the site will be back soon, just changing servers etc. I'm using firefox - I've cleared my history, the cache and even deleted my bookmarks. I've cleared the cache using the command prompt and I've cleared out all temporary internet files. I've run out of ideas as to why I still cant get onto the site (which can be found here).
I am enquiring if it is at all possible to run a website without hosting? If I created my own website, would I be able to run it without hosting? A friend told me I could?? Can anyone explain this to me?
when ever i go to this one specific website it will not come up the screen just says, request cancelled 101. does anyone know how to fix this? i used to be able to go to this website with no problrms at all and now my computer is blocked. i tried different web browsers.
