May 18, 2009I have a Acer aspire Laptop with Windows vista 64 bit It worked fine until the other day i started it and it wouldn't boot windows at all. The only disk that I got with my computer was the Windows vista anytime upgrade CD. It has let me install windows vista once before when my computer crashed. Now when I try to re-install Windows vista everything works fine until I get to the part where it asks me to select the drive on where to install it to.I can't find any where it is suppose to list them.Also what used to be my C: drive is now Drive X: I have tried to boot from dos,Treid to do the repair,Nothing seems to work. When I start my computer now the only thing I get is; Media test failure,Check cable Exiting PXE ROM Can anyone give me some ideas on what to try or do?

May 7, 2010I've had some trouble with my system - Dell XPS 630I - hibernation problems, not being able to set or go back to a Restore Point, etc. So I've had a Microsoft tech help me solve my problems in the last few weeks, and after finally coming to the 'Reinstall Vista' as the only solution, I reinstalled yesterday. I have not yet installed any drivers or Dell software, but, obviously, did get my internet capability back.
I'm not worried about getting my system back to normal working order eventually, but one thing has me concerned: My system is running so loud and fast constantly. Previously, when I turned my computer on, during the startup phase, it ran like this (loud and fast, noisy) until it reached the black screen with the colorful, Vista circle in the middle, at which point it quieted down completely and continued with the Windows startup. Does anyone know what it is that has my computer sound like its running so fast, and sounding so loud constantly. Is it going to be one of the system drivers that I will eventually load that will 'calm' my system down??

Sep 29, 2009I am trying to install Windows Server 2003 OS on my desktop which is running Microsoft Vista Home Premium edition. But, it is failing with a blue screen and STOP message (looks like a core dump). I tried many times and it is failing with the same error message. It was able to load all the required files from the CD and lastly it was saying starting Windows and then core dump with a blue screen. I had reformatted my hard disk and tried. It was also failing. I had purchased a new internal hard drive and installed it and still it was failing.
Computer Running Slow
Jan 9, 2010I am running Windows Vista 32 bit edition and the last weeks my computer has slowed down to a snail’s pace, i have checked for viruses and it is clean. I have run CCleaner and to remove all the rubbish but it is still very slow.
I even have trouble booting from a Vista boot DVD, it take approx 5 minutes just to get the welcome screen up that’s before any OS has booted.
I have a CPU monitor on the sidebar and the CPU and the Memory usage is up and down from nothing to 100 % all the time.
And when i do get the computer to work it is very slow and i can only open one window at a time

Could anyone give me any ideas as to what could be slowing it down so much.I tried to access my company site to process some work stuff and it took forever and a day to load what would normally be a couple of seconds.My computer is only about 8 months old, Intel Core Duo CPU, Memory 2047MB, 32 Bit O.S, with a Windows experience Index rating of 5.5.

Installing On Someone Else Computer
Mar 10, 2009I know I can only have one registered copy and that's on my computer but is it possible to have a working Vista on a friend's computer but without having to register it? I have the upgrade version of home premium SP1. I remember reading that it's possible to install Vista without registering for a certain amount of time and that the time can be extended. I figure they can't use windows update but I think the Vista HP SP1 by itself is rather stable regardless. I was going to have them use the Windows 7 Beta but it can't be downloaded anymore from Microsoft's site and I don't want to use torrents. They'd have bought Vista themselves by now but with a kid on the way and moving, they can't shell out the dough right now and their comp is acting up.

Screen Goes Black, Computer Keeps Running

My previous computer used sleep mode fine, but I just got a new motherboard (Asus P5N-D), case, and processor (Intel Core 2 Quad), so it's no mystery why it doesn't work anymore, I just can't figure out how to restore the option.

I uninstalled all the stuff she didn't want, which included Norton AV, and replaced that particular program with AntiVir, which I have used and liked for years. She doesn't use the computer for much except playing pre-installed card games and reading email, and she didn't install anything except her Kodak printer. I installed the Comodo firewall, but that didn't work well for her, so when Zone Alarm released a Vista-compatible version, I uninstalled Comodo and installed ZA.
She began telling me the computer was freezing up from time to time. Then it began freezing up regularly. Now it is freezing up so badly that she can't even play her games. I reviewed the event log and found errors involving Windows Error Reporting service, and warnings about the printer. I turned off the error reporting and unplugged the printer. The problem persisted..............
Computer Freezes After Installing SP1
May 9, 2008I have an HP computer that was running Vista nicely and smoothly. However, it appears after downloading and installing Vista SP 1, the computer has a tendency of "freezing" and the only remedy is to press the power button. I did notice that when the computer freezes, my second bay DVD drive flashes, and the activity light on the console, which indicates HD activity, constantly flashes. It is a new HP Computer running Vista Premium Home.

Apr 14, 2008why Microsoft would release a product knowing that there are unresolved issues with the product? What is the point of doing Beta testing if you are not going to find all the bugs, fix them and then release the product? I'm not trying to be flippant(sp?) here. This is a serious question. With all the money, man/woman power and brain power available to Microsoft for R&D, why is it so hard to put out a product that works from the word go? I don't want to become Microsoft certified in order to keep my computer running. I thought the whole purpose of technology advancing was to make our life easier. I want to insert disk and push play. I'm not talking about dumbing things down. Installing Updates And Shuts Down Computer
Mar 11, 2010It has the little <!> showing down by the shutdown button on the start menu, saying "Installs updates and shuts down your computer." I did that. Then I did it again. And again.
Three reboots, still wants me to update. I have done the updates. Now what? I read once the trick was to disable the UAC setting. That did nothing. I get no error message. It boots up normally..then <!> comes back again.
Microsoft Installing Slowly On My Computer....
Feb 23, 2009when i install Windows Vista and it is on Expanding Files it takes a really long time, its suddenly stops and its takes a really long time to increase the percentage of Expanding the files...
When it's finish Expanding the files it takes about 1 hr to install and when the installation is complete the start up takes about 30 minutes to finish and open the desktop and when im in the desktop, it takes about 10 minutes to just click on something and usually it freezes or locks up and it will just continue reading.....
I have already tested the "Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor" and it said that my computer can run any Vista Version. i've been so stress just waiting for the installation of this Windows.
Installing Win 7 Same Computer Twice Separate Partitions
Nov 13, 2009xAorKZKHA.1592@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl> I wanted to try Win7 without losing Vista, so I installed it on a separate partition to dual boot.So I have Vista on C: and Win 7 on G: - same disk, different partitions. A boot menu was set up, but Win 7 boots by default if I don't choose Vista instead.I now want to move towards Win 7 on C:, and return to just one partition. But I have quite a lot of software and shortcuts now set up on G:, and if I were to delete C:, change G: to C: I'd have to start uninstalling and reinstalling everything so that C: was referenced. by everything. I'd rather install Win 7 onto c:, and gradually install software again, whilst being able to continue booting into Win 7 on G; to carry on working as needed. So, if I were to install Win 7 again onto the C: partition, either by doing an upgrade, or formatting C: and doing a fresh install,
a) would that cause any activation/legal problems, having Win 7 installed on the same computer twice in separate partitions
b) if it was OK to do that, which installation would become the default boot option.
Slow Boot Time Computer Running Ultimate X64
Mar 28, 2009I've recently put together a new computer using these parts: I've updated to Vista Ultimate SP1, run multiple disk clean ups, defrags, use CCleaner, clean the registry, defrag the registry, disabled services and have made tweaks according to the guide provided on this website and have minimal startup programs running but my boot times average around 2 minutes. For a new computer with new hardware, this seems unreasonable as many users report boot times between 30-60 seconds. What could be wrong with my computer? On the vista loading screen with the green bar, it goes through about 22 cycles.

Apr 16, 2009Recently, while taking my Vista x64 Ultimate computer out of sleep mode, a power outage occurred. When I turned my computer back on, no 32 bit applications run - not even the operating system's own services such as Windows Installer will run if they are 32-bit.
I tried typing 'firefox' in the Task Manager to see what happened. The process appeared for a moment, then was instantly killed. I don't know why. The Windows event log has been unhelpful in diagnosing the problem.
I also looked at Task manager at startup, and saw that all the * 32 processes were dying moments after Vista boots and show the desktop.
I have tried system restore, nothing worked. I tried to auto-repair my system in the windows recovery console, that didn't work either. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem short of simply reinstalling the OS, which I am reticent to do? If so, what should I do?
Created Another Partition On My Drive For Vista X64. (two Other Partitions Running Vista X86)
Mar 14, 2008I'm new to Vista x64 (the op sys as well as this site). I have just endeavored to try out Vista 64 bit on one of my workstations. I run VMWare Workstation at work and can use the additional memory addressing of Vista 64 (I have 4 gigs of RAM). nyway, my problem is this.
1) I created another partition on my drive for Vista x64. (two other partitions running Vista x86).
2) I have been running dual boot with Vista for quite a while and it runs fine.
3) After creating the new partition and installing Vista x64 with SP1 (integrated service pack on install DVD), I get drive corruption problems all over the place.
I have 3 500 gigabyte Western Digital drives in this machine. The first is for operating system partitions and the second strictly for backup (using Acronis True Image) and the third for data. The data drive seems to have problems reading when I attempt to install additional drivers for the x64 bit environment (just downloaded from the web). Also, I soon will get errors afterwards on the C drive also.

May 10, 2008I am currentlu running Vista Ultimate SP1 with 4GB of RAM with Intel Q6600 quad CPU. I have read that the 32 bit version (which I'm running) can only see about 3GB although it reports 4GB. Is there any reason why I should not consider moving to the 64 bit version? If not does your MB make a difference as I use a Gigabyte GA-EP35C-DS3R mobo.
