Install The X32 Bit And Set Up My Computer As A Multiboot Setup Using The Same Key

Mar 8, 2009

I purchased Vista Premium with SP1 which came with both the 32 bit and 64 bit dvd's. I'm currently running the V64 version but I have a few needed apps that just won't run on the 64 bit system. I was wondering if I could install the x32 bit and set up my computer as a multiboot setup using the same key or would I have to buy another key to have both versions of the OS on the same computer?

Multiboot Does Not Woking

Mar 26, 2008

I got Vista Basic with my new notebook. I upgrade it online with Vista Home Premium. Then I wanted to run XP in another partition but the system refused to install XP from Vista. Installing it separatly, I did not get the multiboot screen and to boot back from Vista I had to repair Vista, but then I dont have access anymore to XP. Installing XP first and then Vista, I got the multiboot screen but it did not boot with the Vista option: cannot boot from this partition. Now I am using Vista Home Premium and have XP in another partition but I cannot boot it. Does somebody has a solution to make the multiboot working?

Multiboot Win7, Uninstall Later?

May 11, 2009

I already have my computer set up to multiboot XP and Vista. I've decided to try out Windows 7. What I have planned to do, is just pop in another hard drive, formatt it, and install windows 7 onto it, leaving my system a multiboot of WinXP, Vista and 7. Now since Win7 is just a beta, I'll not want to leave it on my system when a new RC comes out, it expires, or I purchase the full version.

So my question is, if I install win7 as my 3rd multiboot option, will it be possible to uninstall it at a later date without affecting my other winxp and vista partitions? I'll probably have to run a fix mbr command, right?

Unknown Computer On Private Home Setup

Mar 23, 2008

I have three desktops and a laptop connected to a linksys router connected to a comcast cable box. The comcast system uses a WPA encryption which cannot be changed to WEP as they do not use WPA. I have system 3 shield (iolo) system guard, antivirus, firewall, and the Vista ultimate firewall turned off. I see an unknown computer named FISHY (IP 192.168.1.139) with unknown gaming files on my home network. I have renamed the network on all of our computers and still this unknown computer shows up using MSHOME. I've enabled the Linksys router to acept only the IP addresses our computers, and to deny the IP of FISHY to no avail. How do I remove the FISHY computer. If I turn off the file sharing or discovery all that does is make the FISHY intruder become invisible but they are still there on the network. The shared files on FISHY say Desktop.ini so they are hacking into my system, how do I stop?

Install Setup.exe Run An Error Message

Mar 23, 2008

I have Windows Vista Home Premium on my laptop, and I just recently purchased an upgrade to Ultimate. However, when I'm trying to Install it, as soon as I enter the product key during the instalation process, I keep getting these error messages sayin: "Install Windows: setup.exe - Bad Image C:$WINDOWS.~BTSourcespidgenx.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."

And then once I click OK, it says under the product key "Windows installation has encountered an error and needs to be restarted." I tried restarting the upgrade, and then the computer and the problem still exists. Do anybody have any suggestions to fix this? And what do they mean by "Try installing the program again using the original installation media"?

RAID 0 Setup On X64 Home Premium:computer's Hardware Not Support Booting To This Disk

Mar 26, 2008

I'm attempting to set up a new PC with RAID 0 using Vista x64 Home Edition Premium. However, I'm having no luck. (Hours of scouring various forums have yielded nothing as well.) I've set up 2 RAID 0 partitions across my 2 SATA drives using Intel's Matrix Storage Manager. (CTRL + I thing at boot). When I load up Vista for installation, it recognizes the partitions but refuses to let me install on them. I get an alert at the bottom of the screen saying that my "...computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I'm not completely clear on what this means, but after entering BIOS, I have my drive configuration set to configure SATA as RAID. Attempting to continue the installation yields something like "Windows cannot find a drive that is suitable for installation" (not verbatim, sorry.) I have downloaded all of Intel's drivers for my motherboard and have even hunted down the RAID driver for my HDDs. I put all of those files onto a USB drive, but Vista doesn't seem to recognize any of them.

Vista Home Basic Install Dvd For An 8 Pc Network Setup

Mar 26, 2008

In our Language School we have a Multimedia Language Lab (allowing the school
students to access through user name and password an internet platform to do
the exercise work after each class lesson). This system uses Windows Vista Basic as operating system and is based on a 802.11a/b/g Wireless LAN.

1.It is possible to create a Vista Install DVD allowing ??? in case of serious problems with the hardware on one PC ??? to format the hard disk and reload the Operating System, Configuration, Programs and LAN configuration (not exceeding 2 or 3 GB of disk space for the image) just by loading the Install DVD, without the need for calling any expert to solve the situation. I have to explain that recently a similar situation occurred and it took three hours of an expert???s time to reload the whole configuration and programs on the PC concerned.

2.If the answer to the above point is yes, what are the simple steps to follow to achieve what described at above point 1.

Purchased a copy of windows vista ultimate and installed the 32 bit bit version and everything runs perfect, however when i try to install the 64 bit version my computer freezes either during the installation or right after the install is complete.

Ive tried everything. Installed on different hard drive, used different memory, different power supply, different CD rom drive, absolutely nothing will get the installation to not freeze. The windows event viewer is useless. I even tried 3 different install cd's. It's not overheating as far as i can tell either. Like i said vista 32 runs perfect so i cant understand whats going on? Should I RMA my motherboard? Ever heard of a cpu being defective in this way

Install Windows 2003 Server On Computer

Dec 16, 2009

I have a laptop running Vista ultimate. I want to create a dual boot with win2003 server so that I can install MOSS 2007 on it (studying for certification). Tried using the disk management utility in Vista to create partition for this and it doesn't let me shrink a partition in order to create a new partition for Win 2003. There are 60gb available for this new partition but when I go to 'shrink' I get a zero for available mb. I know there are some issues regarding the loader. Any advice in how to do this successfully? I dont want to lose any data on the vista O/S part of the box.

Recovering Files From Computer Prior To Install

Mar 26, 2008

I recently go a new PC and had geek squad install some virus/etc software on it a remove gateway branded 'programs'...when I turned on the computer for the first time it seemed as though GSquad had installed everything as I had access to the internet, download photos from my camera, access Microsoft programs etc. When I tried to open the backup hard drive that I had from my laptop it said I needed to install Vista to proceed.

So I started to, following the prompts where it said that it would back up my previous files that I had, and it took several hours. Now that I have Vista, I realize that i don't have any of the picture files that I previously saved. I know I'm foolish not to have backed up the computer myself before the install but I didn't think it would erase everything. Normally I wouldn't be concerned but I just got engaged and we captured the moment in those photos. I know there may be no hope but I just thought someone out there might have a solution....

Another approach may be to set up a RESTORE POINT before the Install

(sometimes this is an automatic) - would that work?

I have read a rather long Troubleshooting paper on this subject - and I wonder ...

Having Two Copies Of Vista On One Computer: Install Vista On The Smaller Drive, Boot With That, And Access Files On The Other Drive

Dec 25, 2008

Right now I have a single 640 gig HDD that everything's on. I've got a laptop too that I'm gonna be taking out on rotations eventually. I wanted to get a new smaller (250GB) HDD and put my Vista on that, so my 640 will be data only (then I could take it with me in an external enclosure and leave the desktop for my mom to use til I come back and collect it). I was gonna DBAN the 640, but I wanted to get the data off of it first- about 170 GB of stuff that I'd rather not lose.

My question is-

Can I install Vista on the smaller drive, boot with that, and access files on the other drive? Would it work if there's another Vista running on the other drive? (both SATA).

Computer Shuts Down: Run CHKDSK /F And Check For Hard Drive Corruption And Then Restart Your Computer"

Sep 30, 2009

Before the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"

Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........

Fan Setup For Best Airflow?

Mar 18, 2009

How does everyone set their fans up for the best maximum airflow? Here is my computer case: Newegg.com - Rosewill R6426-P BK ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases Here is my CPU cooler: Newegg.com - ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

I changed the stock fan that came with the case for a better 80mm fan, which is blowing inwards towards my cpu fan. I have the CPU fan turned so that the back fan is blowing into the back of the fan on the heatsink, so all airflow is coming from the back, through the heatsink towards the front of the case. I had to remove the duct from the side of the tower because the CPU cooler is so freakin' tall it is literally a 1.25" from the wall. So placing a fan in the duct's place is also pretty hard. The other available spot on the side panel also has an 80mm, which i'll upgrade to a 120mm fan. This fan blows inward towards my HUGE video card to try and keep that cool. I also removed all of the front aluminum panels (the ones which are removable when you place in a cd/dvd rom, which helps the air from the back to be blown through the front. Since the cd/dvd rom covers on the case are perforated, air blows through them nicely.
