View 4 RepliesPC: HP Windows Media Center PC m8200n; Monitor HP w1907. November 2007. OS: Windows Vista Home Premium. HP: Deskjet F4180. So I noticed that the printer icon for my printer became all white, IE a corrupted icon. So I went online and found information on how to refresh your icon folder. That didn't do anything. So I thought I'd uninstall and reinstall.
I have tried to reinstall my HP software from disc, and I get a 'new PSSWCORE.msi' file. I see the file on the install disc, yet it won't install. 'Network resource is unavailable.'
Now I cannot uninstall it. On my Add/Remove I see:
HP Customer Participation Program 9.0
HP All In One Software 9.0
HP Imaging device Functions 9.0
HP On-Screen Cap/Num/Scroll Lock Indicator
HP Photosmart Essential
HP Update
How can I get these off my PC, and reinstall cleanly so I can use my rinter/scanner again?
I have files in the folder, but it still shows the folder as 'empty'. I've tried refreshing, but it didn't help.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI had a Vista Install with A "System" partition and a "Data" partition. Installing a VPN Package by Sonicwall completely destroyed networking. Under the properties of any network card the only Service, Client, or Protocol was "Client For Microsoft Networks" and clicking "Install" to get IPV4 and the like put on gave an error. DHCP was also broken. Time to start over. Unfortunately, I am going to need a new laptop soon because my laptop turns itself off when in the BIOS Screen, When trying to boot from CD, or any time before Windows starts to load. It is stable once it gets up and running. Because of this, I could not boot from a CD to install Vista...I had to boot to my damaged installation and install it to my old Data Drive (After backing everything up). Now, it boots to a clean install of Vista. This install is on the "F" drive. The old install resides on the "C" drive. By default, it boots to the proper installation (without me having modified any boot information.)
I would like to recover the space taken up by the old "C Drive" installation but I am not sure if the bootloader actually resides on that partition yet. I would be rather unhappy if I blew away that partition and ended up unable to boot. So....am I safe to blow away the C partition? Is there any way I can check to make sure that the installation on the F drive is handling the boot loading?
My computer keeps shutting down and destroyed everything in the Control Panel. I'm using (IE & FF3) and they keep shutting down. I ran AVG and it shows that I have an infected virus "win32/Heur". I don't have anthying important saved on my labtop that I care about. I basically use it for surfing the net. I purchased it 4 months ago. My questions are. It did not come with the Installation Disk(s), It was pre-installed. How can I re-install everything that if it was the same way when I purchased it? If I reinstall (reformat), will my labtop still be infected with the virus?

Whenever I browse through folders on my hd via an application like Photoshop or Internet Explorer, that application will lock up when I get into Documents. View 6 Replies View RelatedI would like to set some key folders to have icons that identify what is inside. So my Windows install folder would show a folder with the Windows logo in front. (I have the ICO for that.) But how do you do that? I found a folder that has such a specific icon, but I wasn't successful getting it to work. My example used an icon inside an EXE. My icon is a stand-alone ICO.

I have moderate computer knowledge, but I'm stumped. I've read quite a bit on this issue and I don't want to "make an sudden moves." I'm on Vista Home Premium 64bit w/ a Dell XPS 1340 laptop. I recently got a new net provider (Clear) and service was great at first then it turned to crap. Being a bit obsessive, I read as much as I could about any way to fix it. In the process I ruined my shell folders which house like 90% of my files. I used a program called TCP Optimizer and it changed my registry. Upon rebooting, I got the temporary profile. I thought my system had been wiped til I got the popup saying it just didn't load correctly.
I rebooted again and still all of my settings were gone along with my desktop and "documents." I searched and found them in some temp folder. I then copied them back to where they belonged. I accepted that the registry may have ruined all my settings and restarted reconfiging everything. I was happy to still have my files and programs. After doing some more reading about my shoddy ISP I realized that I hadn't done a full shutdown and unplugging of the modem, so I did...............
I installed new software and pinned the executable to the start menu. But, Vista displays a generic icon in the start menu for this program. All other programs pinned to the start menu display the correct icon. Any way to get Vista to dispaly the proper icon for this program??

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have C & D drives, I use D for mundane filesdownloads and portable apps. However, I have a few folders that's are different from any I've seen. I don't know how to explain it other than using a detailed example.
I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.
When I put e.g. documents in my publick folder, do they appear automatically in the private folder too? Do I really need 2 folders to see all my docs in vista?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThis has happened to me before - somehow the folder formats change themselves, eg the documents folder has options along the top like 'organise' 'view''slideshow' and 'burn' ie like in the pictures folder. I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.
