How Do Preinstalled Recovery Options

Aug 26, 2009

i have tried everything to remove malware from my computer but nothing seems to work. so i figured i would just completely clean my computer and do a system recovery to get it back to the factory settings but i cant find a system recovery disk. i have a few questions: is it possible that i never received a disk and the recovery options were preinstalled? and how do i find out if my computer has preinstalled recovery options?

Vista Preinstalled Recovery Disk

Mar 23, 2008

I'm having difficulty in parsing this quote from Microsofts own website "The 64-bit editions of Windows Vista&8212;available for all editions of Windows Vista except Starter" Now, I have an x64 CPU architecture PC, 4 GB of system ram, and only the 32-bit version of Vista Premium* pre-installed*. And unless I'm mistaken, I'm only entitled to a Recovery disk that I create or order from Hewlett Packard. I don't want to buy an upgrade or full install of the 64-bit Ultimate Edition. However, I do want the 64-bit version of the Premium Edition instead. Microsoft says that I can get a 64-bit edition here: Even if it requires a custom install (AKA "fresh install), I'm OK with that. Can I obtain the 64-bit Premium Edition (if it exists)? Has anyone done this?

Boots Into Recovery Options

Jun 23, 2008

I have a Vista computer that always boots into the recovery options and trys to repair the operating system. How can I stop this from happening? Even after repairing it does not try to boot normally! Safe mode does the same thing. Using bcdedit the RECOVERYENABLED is set to YES, how do I set this to NO? The computer failed to boot in the first place because of a thrid party service, normally I disable the service in safe mode but now the recovery options seem to be getting in the way.

Stuck On System Recovery Options

May 15, 2010

every time I turn my laptop on, it goes straight to the system recovery options. I've run Startup Repair and Windows Memory Diagnostics Tool, and ran a few tests and it said there's nothing wrong with my laptop. I've shut it down and restarted it a few times but it still goes straight to the system recovery options instead of the logging-in page.

Dual Boot Using Preinstalled OEM HD

Mar 27, 2008

Just got given a new HD from work with Vista Business pre-installed (no install DVD). Has not been run/activated yet so is not paired with a mobo. I have the product key. I want to install it into my existing PC that runs XP and then dual boot. Know enough to understand that if I plug it into my PC as a second drive both MBRs will be independant of each other (on seperate drives) so how will I get a dual boot option? Think it would be easy if I had a a new clean HD with an installation DVD. Can't find any other info on the web with a similar scenario.

Best Backup Options

Mar 23, 2008

I'm in the process of transferring my Hi8 video tapes to my PC for safe keeping. The one drawback I see with the Hi8 tapes is that if the camcorder dies, so does my playback mechanism. To get the highest quality I'm creating AVI files, and each tape is approximately 13 GB of data. I'm capturing in segments around 3.3 GB each. Needless to say, I've filled most my PC drive space, including my 300 GB external USB drive. I'd like to back these files up to DVD as 'raw files' for future editing (as opposed to actually creating a DVD that can be viewed on a DVD player). I have Vista Home Premium, and XP Pro as OS options. I started just dragging the files to the DVD drive on my Vista and had some success, but for some reason it doesn't always work. how best to back these files up? I've looked at a couple backup packages but haven't seen anything that strikes me as what I'm looking for..

System Restore Options

May 4, 2009

First off, when I go to Create a Restore Point, it always takes the system about 20-40 seconds before it gives me what I want which is C drive checked in the list to create a restore point on. It shows me all my USB hard drives and other partitions, none of which I ever want to choose to create a restore point on. Is there a way to choose to have only the C drive come up on this list of possible drives for restore points? (I assume this would be quicker, since it would not have to find all those other drives/partitions before showing me the C drive.)

Secondly, since I only have an 83gig partition for C drive with Vista (64-bit Home Premium) and programs using 43 gigs of that; so how much space do I really need for System Restore points? I know there is a page here on this forum somewhere for going into the system via Command and changing the amount of space allotted for System Restore. Should I leave the Default allotted space or should I change it to a smaller amount? (My computer came shipped with a 700+ gig C drive but I shrank it to 83gigs and the rest is for just archiving, with a special partition for ripping and burning and decoding files.) Third: Where are the System Restore point files or whatever they are stored?

Fourth: Aside from manually creating a Restore Point via System Protection, is there a way I can make it create a Restore Point once a day at a particular time? I think it creates one at startup every day (I'm not sure, but I seem to recall that it does this), but is there a way to tell it, say, to create one every day at 5pm, or something like that in addition to creating one at start up? Or would that require too much disk space alloted to it? (I have a big hard drive, but I'd just as soon not junk it up with an excessive amount of System Restore space.)

Three Options For Upgrading From To Windows 7

Dec 26, 2008

Back in November, I explored the number of editions of Windows 7 that Microsoft was working on. While the company has not officially given a list yet, it was clear that Windows 7 Enterprise Edition and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition were definitely coming. Furthermore, there was an obvious avoidance of naming a Windows 7 Business Edition, though there was a mention of a Windows 7 Small Business Edition. While doing a little more digging, I stumbled on the following upgrade paths for Windows Vista to Windows 7. These are not confirmed, but I am told they are what Microsoft is currently considering: Windows Vista Home Premium Edition => Windows 7 Home Premium Edition Windows Vista Business Edition => Windows 7 Professional Edition Windows Vista Ultimate Edition => Windows 7 Ultimate Edition Full Story: Rumor: three options for upgrading from Vista to Windows 7

Script On G15 Keys For Different Options?

Oct 3, 2008

is there a way to make a script on your G15 keys for the different options on your Nano Suit? Hopefully there is or you guys can point me to the right direction. Right now, I am using the "ALT" key to open up the Suit Menu and from there, I pick my mouse to the different choices you have (Strenght, Armor, Cloak, Speed or Weapon) but, in a heated battle, I would love to use some of the other key my G15 has for a quick use of any of these choices w/o wasting valuable time. I could do with the Sci-Fi Alien part of the game or the need to hit the KPA a few times before they die, but for the most part, the game is fun and it makes for a good laugh when you try to kill a KPA from a distance with the suppressor.
