Hibernate Itself Again After Resume

Aug 8, 2008

got a real annoying problem - searched over inet and found no solution :((When my Vista resume from hibernate my LCD goes off and i have about two minutes window to move mouse, press key, etc or vista ITSELF goes to hibernate again.

Thats really annoying to sit in front of the resuming computer and try to catch that 2mins window every day, when i hibernate. Is a feature or bug? Can it be overcome somehow?....Ive got Vista 64, all updates, Rad4870, Asus M3A78-EH mobo, 5000+BE, hybrid sleep off.

To Resume Vista From Hibernate Without Having Disconnect External HD?

Mar 21, 2008

I have my computer run an automatic backup each night to my USB connected external hard drive then automatically hibernate. However, I always need to remove the USB connection to my external HD before turning my computer on in the morning, or else it would just display a blinking dot when turned on. When I do forget about removing the external hd, I am forced to manually shutdown the computer. Once its turned back on, I get a message saying the resume from hibernate wasn't successful, and it asks me if I want to retry or delete the hibernation file. I choose to retry (having already disconnected the HD) and Vista resumes fine. I'm wondering how to resume Vista from hibernate without having to always disconnect my external HD prior to turning it on. The external hard drive is Western Digital and I'm using Vista Service Pack 1. Also, my sister's laptop resumes fine from hibernate with the external HD plugged in. One last thing, my computer resumes fine when put to sleep with the external HD plugged, its only hibernate that this happens.

Aero Themes After Computer Resume Sleep/hibernate

I have NVidia GForce 6200 chipset card, and now I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, but I had the same problem in Vista x64. If I move to 16 bit colors it solves, also with basic theme without Aero. I tried many drivers updates but nothing changed.

Uploading Resume On Word

Jan 18, 2009

I have Vista Ultimate with Word 2007. I recently found myself unemployed so I created a resume on Word. I've joined several job finder sites online and the majority of them have an option that allows for downloading a resume. Some of these sites have responded to me with notice that I have a virus in my Word document. I have no idea how I could have gotten a virus in a simple resume but it has me disturbed. How many of these job finder sites have scrapped my resume due to this virus (I ask myself)? How do I go about removing the virus? I have Windows Live OneCare and have it set to do a virus scan once a week but it hasn't found anything. Do I uninstall Word 2007 then reinstall it?

Can Reconnect Vpn Resume Work

Mar 23, 2008

I'm able to connect to the VPN at my company (which I set up - it's a Windows 2003 Server Running VPN services) and am able to Remote Desktop / Ping / Use full Outlook just fine. For a while. After a certain amount of time (usually 60 to 90 minutes) the VPN connection will all of a sudden stop transmitting data. According to an ipconfig I still have an IP on the remote network, but all traffic ceases. Outlook reports that it has lost connection to the Exchange Server, ping tests fail, no more remote desktop, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria.

If I open up my Network Connections folder, the VPN Connection still shows up as "Connected". If I try to disconnect it, I get the "Attempting to Disconnect from VPN" window, at which point it hangs (I've let this try to disconnect for 2 hours at one point, with no results). I can't close out of that window unless I go into Task Manager and kill the explorer.exe process. Usually, I end up rebooting my machine every 60 to 90 minutes just so I can reconnect to the VPN and resume my work. As you can imagine, this is getting annoying.

My Vista 64 machine (Gigabyte GA-X48-DS5 mobo, Q6600 cpu, 8GB ram, Radeon HD2400 vga card) has a problem when it resumes from sleep. There is a protracted (3 seconds) buzzing noise and then the display shows a vertical pattern of narrow red and white stripes and the machine hangs. Only a reset will get it to reboot - the keyboard is completely dead.

Windows Didn't Resume Correctly Just Rebooted

Sep 12, 2008

So one day I turned on my computer from a hibernation, and the windows didn't resume correctly, so i dumped the restore and just rebooted. Following that, none of my usb devices worked. In my device manager, under Universal Serial Bus controllers, there are two unknown devices (I uploaded a picture). I've looked all over microsoft support for an update that would help, and I couldn't find anything.

Lose Internet Connection When Resume From Sleep Mode

Aug 22, 2008

I've searched here for this problem, and it seems that others have had it as well. I just got a new PC and it's running Vista. Each time I put it into sleep mode, when I come back, I have no wireless internet. I can either reboot or unplug the wireless receiver, either work, but it's a pain. Repair/diagnose does NOT work. For what it's worth, I had another PC, less than a year old, and it does the exact same thing. I just assumed that the old one was just wierd and my solution was to not put it into sleep. We do have a hard wired one, it does NOT lose connection when in sleep mode. My internet comes back just fine upon unplugging the receiver / replugging it. I have tried the solution I found..by unchecking the 'allow the system to put this device to sleep'..that did not work. the PC's are pretty DISSIMILAR in what they have on them for hardware, which leads me to believe it's a Vista thing. They don't even have the same spyware stuff..

To Hibernate Or Not To Hibernate?

Jun 7, 2009

Vista Home Premium SP1 (and WinXP Home SP3). After Best Buy "optimized" my new Toshiba laptop, the Hibernate option was nowhere to be found. Then, after going through World War III, erasing the disk, and re-installing Vista to factory-fresh standards, it was there. This time it even stuck around after Best Buy did their thing again. I decided to ask some questions. It seemed that if I didn't like one answer, all I had to do to get a second (and guaranteed different) opinion was to ask a different employee. I thought I liked Hibernate under XP. I was leery of Standby, probably because of my mainframe days when memory was *really* temporary. I had no trouble with Hibernate, and it was a faster restart than Shut Down. Now I'm told to use Sleep (the old Standby) because Hibernate is fraught with problems. Not only that, but I was told that Hibernate wasn't removed by Best Buy, but by Windows Update! Actually, if I could feel comfortable with
Sleep, I like the idea of, say, dozing off after 10 minutes of inactivity, but waking up instantly when necessary, combined with invoking a Shut Down (or Hibernate) only when I close the lid. I look forward to getting a variety of opinions here.

Not Come Out Of Hibernate

Dec 16, 2007

I installed Vista Ultimate x64 in March and had had no system problems until last week. Last week I put my PC into hibernate as I always do. When I came back to my machine it would not come out of hibernate and I had to do a hard reset. From this point onwards it would spontaneously freeze (normally after about 10 minutes of normal use) where a hard reset would be required.

The only change in my system configuration at this point was a game update for Call Of Duty 4. However I used the same installer on 2 other Vista 64 machines (home editions) with identical specs (ones I built for my folks (both keen gamers )) and had no problems.

What I have tried so far:...........

Lost The Sleep And Hibernate

May 19, 2009

I have an HP Pavilion and cannot get the machine to power down into Sleep Mode or Hibernation. When I first bought this PC the middle of last year I remember reading after my first Windows Update that the feature might be lost as a result of the Windows Updating process. However, as the months have gone by and more and more apps having been installed and loaded on to this machine, it now takes longer for it to boot up. I always liked the Hibernate feature on my old Windows XP machine, but since I lost the Sleep and Hibernation features on this machine and realized why they were gone shortly after having purchased it.

I just went ahead with complete shut downs and cold boots. At this point though I'm pretty tired of the extended waits for the machine to boot up all the time so I would like to know if it's possible, and if so, how, I might get the Sleep or Hibernate features back on this machine. I wasn’t sure what other Section to post this message in since I don’t see an applicable Heading, so I went with the General Folder.

Fix Hibernate After Running Disk Cleanup

Jan 17, 2007

I have found my first bug in the final code of Windows Vista. A few weeks ago after my hard drive was getting low on space I ran disk cleanup to try to delete some unneeded files. Since I needed a lot of space fast I also checked the option to clear my hibernation file. It turns out that was a big mistake.

After clearing my hibernation file my laptops ability to hibernate was destroyed. It was so badly damaged that I could not get to the control panel hibernation settings to turn it back on. Thanks Disk Cleanup!

The fix is actually very easy to do.. Since the control panel settings were gone, I simply used the the command prompt to turn it back on. If you have a similar problem, run the follow command at an administrative level command prompt to turn hibernation back on:
Powercfg /hibernate on ...

Turn Off Hibernate And Stop This File From Being Created

Apr 18, 2009

I know there's a way to turn off hibernate and stop this file from being created. I did a new install and now can't figure it out. I already have my power plan, advanced, sleep, never on all sleep options. I tried to manually delete the file and it won't let me. I don't think I had this problem before and don't know what's different this time around. I have admin privileges. There have been more than 1 funky things happened since the new install. It's almost like a different OS. I have admin rights, but sometimes it's as if I don't. I can't see for example a hidden folder in program data. I have selected for folder views to show hidden files and unchecked hide system files etc. I installed IconViewer which I used before. It worked great. It adds an extra tab to file properties named icons (If the file type has icons associated with it) and allows you to change it. I have installed, uninstalled, installed. It just doesn't work. It's a really basic program/add-on.

Closing The Lid Does Not Enter Hibernate Or Sleep Mode

Mar 23, 2008

I've bought Dell XPS M 1530 recently. Earlier with bios version A_05 my notebook didnot detect wireless network if it became available while the computer was already On. The computer had to be waking up or restarting in the presence of network and then only it registered it. The Dell technician downloaded the latest bios (version A_07) and the wireless network problem got corrected. But the new problem thats comeup now is that closing the lid doesnt put the computer to sleep. I checked in the power options, thats correctly configured. Even changed it to hibernate when i close lid. That doesnt work either. One more thing i must add - that it's not like my computer doesnt get to know at all that the lid is closed. When i open the lid, everything is ON but the mouse arrow behaves 'drunk' for a while before becoming normal.
