View 2 RepliesI know this is a Vista group, I have xp, and two different windows 7 OS's on my hdd for eval. My wife has put a logon password on one of the 7 installs and forgot it. I can, of course get into that install from the other one, but have no knowledge of how to remove or change the password on the other install.

I have logged on to it when I first got it but when I turned it back on a couple of days later it has locked me out asking for a password but I had never entered a password last time and have no idea what it would be . It has two users installed on it one says Mobile Manager and the other says Mine both asking for passwords and both are unknown to me .

Ive tried starting up in safe mode, all that does is present me with the same problem. I did notice the bios screen states the password enabler is set to disabled. Does that mean anything? How do i enable it?
I have a laptop that was manufacturer by TOSHIBA with Vista Home Premium OS. And I haven't used it in awhile, so I kinda forgot the Windows Login Password. It's only one account on it, the "Administrator" account. So the problem is I need to login on that laptop, but sadly, I didn't make a "reset disk" for the password on it. Is there anyway I can ever log back onto it?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a "Lenovo SL500" thinkpad laptop, Running Vista Business 32bit. And a costum built Desktop PC running Vista Ultimate. Both password protected, but with the same password. I would like to transfer files vire the network. Now this wouldn't be a problem if the Reciving computer was not password protected. All I would do is open "Network" located in the start menu and then do the folowing "Network\". To find computers name: open start menu, right click on "computer" and press "properties" But because the reciving computer is password protected I can only see "Printers" I need security so I cannot remove passwords OR open my computer up for file sharing!
The only other options I have got are: Bluetooth: This Ok but is slow and you are needed on both computers for accepting, entering passes etc. (I would preferrer not to!) Server: We have a Server but this means uploading to the server(could take ages), Then Downloading the server(thats double the time). (Again I would preferrer not to!) Memory sticks: Basically a simaller problem to the server! (Once again I would preferrer not to!) So basically what I am asking is: Does anyone know an application/progam that deals with network file sharing (That will do what I am asking for) Or a hidden option in vista to allow this Or something?
I am curious to know if there is a program, besides revo uninstaller, that searches for previously uninstalled apps?,I have uninstalled so many programs, that I have forgotten which ones they are,so I am looking for a program that will find all those past uninstalled programs?,is there such a program out there?,
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Vista Home Premium on an Acer Laptop and all was fine until I decided to change my user password. I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

He is hoping someone has an idea or answer so he can avoid taking it into get looked at and paying money.
View 9 Replies View RelatedBefore the computer actually came to the point of "shuting down just before it tried to load the o/s" it literrly kept shuting down on its own randomly for a week or so. Then the blue screen appeard with this error: 0x0000007BC , 0x84C5DBA0, 0x0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000 "Run CHKDSK /F and check for Hard Drive Corruption and then restart your computer"
Basically it's telling me the DRIVE is corruptet! Well, I plugged that SATA 2 HDD into my other computer (windows xp), detected it correctly and actually formated the drive and reinstalled XP on it without any types of problem. Does it still mean - SATA 2 is corrupted or broken!? How about the RAM then ... indeed, I did run the MemTest for 7 times and no errors were found. So the RAM are ok in this case, or am I wrong?! Maybe it's the PSU... ermmm no that cannot be 'cos the computer never shuts down, if I leave it run for (e.g 5 hours) and even if it's comes to "overheating" that cannot be the case eather, as its *again" never shuts down when you leave it run on the power.........
When I reboot my computer through Windows the computer shuts down correctly, but then the monitor remains black and the bios starts beeping out the error code for "VGA not detected". Why would this be? I am forced to press the power button and wait from 5 to 10 minutes to reboot normally. (I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate x64, have an ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard and a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 280. 800 watts ZION power supply) Is this a BIOS settings or GPU problem? I already reseated the GPU. Could it be a power supply failure?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Vista Laptop that needs to access a printer on an XP computer in my sister's law office. I'm having trouble trying to even have the XP computer show up consistently on my sister's computer. I can ping it every time from the command prompt. I have all firewalls unenabled on both computers. Identical user accounts on both systems. File and Print sharing set up on both. The Link Layer topology is present on the Vista computer. When the laptop sits for a while the XP computer will show up on the map; but, Vista comes up with an error message when I try to access the XP computer.
Beyond that, the map will lose the XP computer on occassion. The Vista computer can access the internet well enough through the router. At this point I can't install the printer on the Vista computer for not being able to access the XP computer from Vista. I've networked Vista computers before on XP networks, and this is the first time I've encountered this problem. Additional info; net view will not show xp computer. Workgroup name is the same for both XP and Vista computer. The restrict anonymous registry key on the XP computer is set at 1. Was originally set at 0. (Norton's Systemwork altered setting)
I have a problem: I have a Windows 7 computer that is part of a Domain. By using System Restore, Windows has managed to ruin the trust relationship with the domain. I use a domain logon and am the only administrator on the machine (the Local Administrator is disabled). I cannot log in normally, due to the trust relationship issue. If I disconnect the network cable while logging in, I can (cached credentials), however I cannot change any UAC-protected settings because if I enter my credentials into it, connected to the network or not, UAC will simply show an error "This operation requires elevation". Nothing I try will work.
I cannot disjoin the domain, because those controls are protected by UAC. Logging in from a remote machine using my credentials will give me "Access is denied". Resetting the computer account in AD has no effect. I cannot format and reinstall because this laptop does not boot from CD by default and requires me to install a program to change BIOS settings (don't ask, it's a Toshiba, the usual way is broken). I cannot install this program because I am faced with yet another UAC prompt. I cannot remove the harddrive because of the laptop's design. how to salvage this computer?
I have been searching far and wide for a solution to my networking problem. I have 2 computers that i connect directly to each other by ethernet cable. Both computers also connect to the internet via wifi. So, on each computer, I have my Wireless connection, and the 'unidentified network' link between the two computers. The problem is that the 'unidentified network' settings never save, so when ever i restart either of the computers, I have to make the unidentified network private again, and there is no way that i can see to actually save the unidentified network settings in a profile. Also, to prevent the computer to computer connection from broadcasting over the wifi connection, i have to disconnect the wireless from one of the computers. I have tried making the wifi a public network and the ethernet connection private, but it never seems to work. anyone out there know what i can do?

I am stumped as to an issue I am having using remote desktop. I have several machines in the office that have been using RD for a while without issue. All are XP SP 3 machines. I have a new Vista Ultimate machine that I am trying to remote to with an XP machine. I have set up RD on the Vista Machine, Firewall is checked, forwarded to the correct port, set the port rule on the router...all the typical issues I am aware of. Everytime I try to connect I get "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator." I can ping the Vista machine and I can remote from the vista machine to any RD enabled machine.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have my computer, and I need to set a password, but if I do, what happens is that it loads the user selection screen first, even though I'm the only user. Because of that, if I turn on my computer, go downstairs to do something, and come back up 5 minutes later, the computer will be stuck on the user selection screen, whereas if I don't have a password, it'll automatically load all the applications (this takes a while...).
Is there any way to still have to enter a password to unlock the computer, but so that Windows would first load all the programs, and THEN ask me for a password?
anybody knows how can i unlock my pc if i don't have the password.

I have heard of the "administrator password" for a super-administrator.
But I have never "set" the "administrator password" or "super admin
password".
I do, however, have a user account with admin privileges that I set a
password to.
Is that the same thing? Does my creating a user account with admin
privileges and password make the password for the super-admin the same, or
will the vista admin password still remain blank?
I'm wondering if this is the case, if a hacker tried to break into my system
to grab files, if I never set the administrator/super-admin password, does
that mean there is none, and they just walk right in,
or does it default to the password I have on my user account with admin
privileges?
My daughters forgotten her password on her laptop, i have tried all the usual methods to get in to it but to no avail, in both normal and safe mode, we don't have the XP disc as she bought the laptop from a friend, i have even thought about downloading ophcrack but it seems a bit long winded and a little confusing.

I am overseas for a while. So to be able to access my Vista computer at home, I installed Log Me In program, which works great for me in other environments. However, I've found out that I can't access my PC because the account on my Vista box does not have a password set (e.g. it's blank). Log Me In, it turns out, requires a password.
However, I am able to get to other computers (all running Windows XP) on my home network (i have 4 PCs in the house doing various things) via Remote Desktop and VNC. My question is whether it is possible to remotely (via Windows XP computers that are on my network) change the password for the account on my Vista computer?
