View 4 RepliesI have done everything possible under my control...Set WMP11 as my default player..uninstalled programs that i thought might be interfering with WMP11 and uninstalled and reinstalled my anti virus/firewall. I cannot uninstall WMP11 off my comp because im on Vista (32bit) and i really dont wanna system restore.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a bunch of loose mp3s (i.e. not the entire albums, just a few tracks from particular albums) grouped into folders based on genre. They have blank album tags. How can I prevent WMP11 from assigning album tags to these mp3 and downloading album art. I have every possible check box involved in media updating unchecked. Among my 20 or so genre folders, WMP only seems to modify the files in a few of the folders. The artist and title tags are correct so it looks like WMP is trying to add missing information. Is there a registry hack that essentially turns off the ability of WMP to do any file modification? I've tried deleting the database and rescanning the library. My only option right now is to simply not start WMP.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOn my WMP, when I right-click on a song and then click on find album info, it says "You must be connected to the Internet to update information about the Audio CD you have selected" even though I am connected. I don't understand why it is saying this. Is this common?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping this isn't a repeat of an existing thread - I couldn't find any directly-related info. I have an HP Pavillion running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I thought I had a virus and I ordered the recovery disks from HP. The laptop was working somewhat but sometimes would only run in Safe Mode. The problem seemed to be a failing hard drive. I replaced the hard drive yesterday. The system recognized the drive and the quick test and comprehensive test both passed.
I reinstalled from the recovery CD and it seemed to go through all the steps. At the final self reboot, the screen eventually goes black (lit, but black) with the mouse cursor. I then get a message: Windows could not complete the installation. to install windows on this computer, restart the installation. HP support says it could be the motherboard. Are there any other things I could try before taking in for service? Is there any other way to do a truly 'clean' install?
My daughter bought a computer several years ago made by HP that runs Vista Home edition 32 bit we upgraded the video card and power supply when she bought it. Went with NVidia GeForce 3500 at the time pretty decent card we thought. Well now shes had some issues that forced her to restore the system and we couldnt find the install info for the card. Went to NVidia's website and downloaded drivers now the computer wont boot up. We keep getting a blue screen that says windows encountered a problem. I cant remember if the system came with a card that wasnt cutting it or if there was integrated graphics on the motherboard. So when we experienced the problem booting after installing drivers for the card I went into setup and changed the video to onboard graphics now we get nothing at bootup and monitor keeps going to sleep.

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn 2001 I bought a stand alone CD recorder to transfer my vinyl collection. I am now in the process of ripping the resultant CDs and I thought this might be a good time to correct some of my early recording mistakes - the most common being that I forgot to manually increment track numbers. Is it possible to split a single WMA track into the original component tracks and, if so, how do I proceed?

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy media player 11 kept freezing when i'd try to rip more than 1 cd all of a sudden. I'd reboot then it would be fine again for only 1 cd. So i started reading forums on how to uninstall and reinstall media player. One said i had to delete the entire key from the registry then when i rebooted it would ask me to reinstall. It didn't happen. Now WMP opens and will play music but when i try to rip a cd it says it cannot do it and offers no reason. I'm running 32bit vista ultimate. I've tried the cumulative update for WMP but it says i have a newer version of it installed so it can't continue. Also i wasn't provided with a copy of vista with the computer so i cant reinstall that either can i?
View 4 Replies View RelatedFor some reason and I have looked at everything I can think of, WMP11 will not let me any longer rate my music. Am I being completely stupid or is there some silly piece of malicious software that has got on my PC? I keep my security and firewalls up to date on a daily basis.
View 4 Replies View RelatedVista Ultimate SP1. Since installing SP1 a week ago I can no longer use the WMP player of many internet radio stations. The different players open OK, play the regulatory sponsor introductory message but as soon as they get into connecting and streaming they shut down with a message that IE7 has stopped working. By itself WMP plays OK all VDO and Audio files on my PC. I was checking your answer to another WMP11 problem (see below) but hesitated to type the two lines in "run" since it says that Vista requires a higher level (?). I looked at the web site given by the link but don't quite understand what is meant by a "higher level".
Can I type these two lines in my Vista "run" (and hope it fixes the problem) or not? Or do you have another possible solution for my problem? I posted my problem on the media player support group but no answer so far.
I'm running Vista Ultimate x64 and noticed a problem recently when playing music via windows media center. However, having played around in WMP11 also, WMP is doing the same thing so I believe the problem is somewhere in there. Initially the problem started when trying to play a collection of mp3 files off my local drive. Whether it be via an existing playlist or simply by selecting an album within WMC. The problem is that a track plays and then WMC/WMP freezes on the next track. If I skip to the next track that plays, but then the next track freezes. Sometimes the 1st track on the list doesn't play but the next will. Sometimes the 1st plays and then the next won't!
So, I closed WMC and opened up WMP directly. (This happens in both x86 and x64 versions of WMP by the way). If I create a playlist, the same thing happens a track plays, then freezes, if I skip on, the next track plays and then the next one freezes.....
My Windows mail contacts folder seems to have become mixed up with the Media Player in that there are Artist, Album, Genre and rating columns in the window....is this a Vista characteristic? I have only had the OS for a week, and am still learning.

View 4 Replies View RelatedWhen I have Windows Media Player v.11 open, my cursor blinks rapidly back and forth between arrow pointer and the rotating circle "Vista Hourglass"- needless to say this is VERY irritating. It is very distrating to use a cursor that is very rapidly "stuttering" or "flashing" back and forth between the rotating circle "Vista Hourglass" and the arrow. It does stop when I close Windows Media Player. But I should be able to have Windows Media Player open and idle without having this annoying super-fast blinking cursor-rotating circle "Vista Hourglass" things

Have Vista HP on a Dell 1525. When I play a WMA file, adjusting any of the video settings slider controls has no affect on the quality of the video playing, not even if I adjust the settings before clicking 'Play'. When I play mpg files, however, adjusting the settings DOES result in the video quality being changed corresponding to the whichever setting is changed. What I can I do to solve this problem when playing WMA files? Is there some setting I need to amend or do I need to download a file/codec?

Any idea why the date does not show?
Newsgroup info about windows 7. There is a problem with the alt.windows7.general newgroups. I don't think it is named correctly. That is why some news severs are not caring this. I think. Here is my new server response. the idea is that there's discussion in alt.config, a proper newsgroup charter is written, there's agreement on the actual name (alt.config discussed alt.os.windows-7 last week), and someone sends a control message. This is necessary to ensure adequate interest and agreement.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI noticed a big discrepancy between C drive used space and the files I actually have on C drive ex programs, windows , users etc. Those files add up to approx 32.5G. whereas the C drive info indicated that I haves used up around 67G out of 400G. I assume the rest must be Restore points etc. However when I click on properties of the System Vol Info folder I see 0 Bytes. When I use the command VSSadmin I see that 34.5G out of 55G is used.
Why can't I see the size of the System Volume Folder in Windows Explorer even though I am an administrator? Is there something I must do to give myself the appropriate privileges? I believe I should be able to view the size of the System Vol Info file because I can do so on my laptop which is also running Vista?
I used easy transfer to move files from an old Xp pc to windows vista pc. I then tried to do shared folders between the new pc and my laptop which is an xp system. I can see the laptop on my vista pc network and I can access the laptop files. When I click on folders in my vista machine that I identified to share they show as shared. When I go to my laptop with xp the new pc shows up in network places. However, as soon as I click on the icon for the shared folders I get an access denied -don't have permission to access. On my vista machine I have password protection off , discovery on, public folder on and file sharing on. The public folder allows me to click on its folders with no access issues but all the files that were transfered using easy transfer say access denied,
View 7 Replies View RelatedI suspect many other Vista HP users - are suffering from having very limited system restore capabilities (short history, just a few points) With the help of Mark and a 3rd party utility from it has been discovered that my Vista HP system is putting an awful lot more into ShadowStorage (where Vista keeps the System Restore points) than it ought to (because unlike Ultimate etc. there is no "restore from shadow storage" file/folder versioning capability in HP)
I would be grateful if, for comparison purposes you, could share the following info on your vanilla Vista HP system restore points (as long as your system isn't brand new and hasn't had time to try and accumulate much - say for systems older than 1 month?)... if you could just bottom post and stick the answers into the "colums" below that would be *most*
Somewhere for some reason I now have almost 200 Unknown contacts in my contacts list. If I double clk on the name in the contact list which is named Unknown it will open the address info box and let me see who it really is....NO Matter what I change in that box that shows the real contact persons info along with their real names....not the name Unknown..... in fact the name Unknown does not appear anywhere in the contacts info box.....So how do I either merge them with the correct individuals info .... or change the name to read properly

My first problem is that none of my mail or address book downloaded. i can get over that. But I cant receive any mail. I can send it though. Ive always had little quirky problems with Outlook but now it has a Vista twist. Here is that message I get:

I have added Windows mail as an accepted program in Windows Firewall. I have unistalled Norton Virus. Ive removed the account twice and readded it. I have contacted support for Outlook, They say my anti virus program may need to be set up to accept Windows mail but I think Ive done that now by changing the Firewall. I read on here that maybe I should switch to a Windows live account but email address is a buisness account so can i just switch servers?
