I created a folder, _savedoc, and I've got it for all received attachments. Any mail that comes with an attachment, I click to save and it goes to that new folder.
But...in that folder, there is only than filename and size. But since they are sorted by filename, I can't tell if something came today or a year ago.
Any idea why the date does not show?
I am trying to find all filenames with a ( in a certain folder. Vista is returning to me all files with a ( in any attribute. How do I do what would seem to be this simple task?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a lot of files and I have all the names organized. I set up Tversity to transcode video to my PS3 and it works great except for one thing. I'd say about 1 out of 15 files have the wrong filename, however, the filename displayed through Tversity on the PS3 is the original filename of the file. Some of these videos I changed the filename right after I finished downloading them MONTHS AGO. And yet Tversity still sees the old filename where on my PC the filename is displayed correctly.
This is not the worst of the bug, if I try to play any of the files with the wrong filenames from Tversity on the PS3 then the Tversity media server on my computer crashes. I doubt this is a problem with Tversity because the old filename shouldn't even exist. Somehow the old filename still exists on some level on my PC.
i keep on getting [random filename].exe not responding every time i start up. i am scared that it may be some virus or something i have scanned using avast anti virus windows defender. i have run registry cleaners cleaned out my system and the problem is still here

Newsgroup info about windows 7. There is a problem with the alt.windows7.general newgroups. I don't think it is named correctly. That is why some news severs are not caring this. I think. Here is my new server response. the idea is that there's discussion in alt.config, a proper newsgroup charter is written, there's agreement on the actual name (alt.config discussed alt.os.windows-7 last week), and someone sends a control message. This is necessary to ensure adequate interest and agreement.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI noticed a big discrepancy between C drive used space and the files I actually have on C drive ex programs, windows , users etc. Those files add up to approx 32.5G. whereas the C drive info indicated that I haves used up around 67G out of 400G. I assume the rest must be Restore points etc. However when I click on properties of the System Vol Info folder I see 0 Bytes. When I use the command VSSadmin I see that 34.5G out of 55G is used.
Why can't I see the size of the System Volume Folder in Windows Explorer even though I am an administrator? Is there something I must do to give myself the appropriate privileges? I believe I should be able to view the size of the System Vol Info file because I can do so on my laptop which is also running Vista?
I used easy transfer to move files from an old Xp pc to windows vista pc. I then tried to do shared folders between the new pc and my laptop which is an xp system. I can see the laptop on my vista pc network and I can access the laptop files. When I click on folders in my vista machine that I identified to share they show as shared. When I go to my laptop with xp the new pc shows up in network places. However, as soon as I click on the icon for the shared folders I get an access denied -don't have permission to access. On my vista machine I have password protection off , discovery on, public folder on and file sharing on. The public folder allows me to click on its folders with no access issues but all the files that were transfered using easy transfer say access denied,
View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm hoping this isn't a repeat of an existing thread - I couldn't find any directly-related info. I have an HP Pavillion running Vista Home Premium 32 bit. I thought I had a virus and I ordered the recovery disks from HP. The laptop was working somewhat but sometimes would only run in Safe Mode. The problem seemed to be a failing hard drive. I replaced the hard drive yesterday. The system recognized the drive and the quick test and comprehensive test both passed.
I reinstalled from the recovery CD and it seemed to go through all the steps. At the final self reboot, the screen eventually goes black (lit, but black) with the mouse cursor. I then get a message: Windows could not complete the installation. to install windows on this computer, restart the installation. HP support says it could be the motherboard. Are there any other things I could try before taking in for service? Is there any other way to do a truly 'clean' install?

And can you guess how many processes show up in TaskManager? 26. ONLY TWENTY SIX. My IE8 starts up lightning fast and swings by all sites except videos, for certain sites w/FlashPlayer & Videos I enable CompatibilityView which aligns those older sites to IE8.
Applications startup as if they were already loaded into Memory, faster than in WinXP. Who knew? It feels like quad-core at 4GHz, seriously. Everything is momentary as if it were loaded from RAM This OS is still a failure, however, versus WinXP. Are you shocked to hear "failure" after my praises, do I contradict myself? No. Because most people are far from my tenacity and just by education, hobbies and profession I alway stune up things to perfection. My cheap car leaves far more expensive models wondering what rocket had just passed them on LIE Expressway. I enjoy tinkering with technology.
It took me 2 weeks (?) to tune up Vista beast to be a polished fast, bug-free beast. It's more convoluted than was tuning WindowsXP. I spent several days in Registry, GroupPolicies, SecPolicies, filesystem digging out and blatantly renaming & moving system files no one is supposed to touch.........
I need to change the display filename colors in Vista Windows Explorer similar to the MAC O/S Feature. This question does NOT deal with Encrypted Files or Compressed Files. I simply want to change the display names of the files to colors such as BLUE, GREY, etc., just like I can do on the MAC O/S for the past 5 years.
I do NOT want to use any third party software file managers. There must be a way to do it in Windows since APPLE has been doing it for 60 months now. I can't believe that Windows STILL Cannot perform this simple task! If you have a working solution using Windows Explorer please email me and let me know.
I suspect many other Vista HP users - are suffering from having very limited system restore capabilities (short history, just a few points) With the help of Mark and a 3rd party utility from it has been discovered that my Vista HP system is putting an awful lot more into ShadowStorage (where Vista keeps the System Restore points) than it ought to (because unlike Ultimate etc. there is no "restore from shadow storage" file/folder versioning capability in HP)

Somewhere for some reason I now have almost 200 Unknown contacts in my contacts list. If I double clk on the name in the contact list which is named Unknown it will open the address info box and let me see who it really is....NO Matter what I change in that box that shows the real contact persons info along with their real names....not the name Unknown..... in fact the name Unknown does not appear anywhere in the contacts info box.....So how do I either merge them with the correct individuals info .... or change the name to read properly
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy daughter bought a computer several years ago made by HP that runs Vista Home edition 32 bit we upgraded the video card and power supply when she bought it. Went with NVidia GeForce 3500 at the time pretty decent card we thought. Well now shes had some issues that forced her to restore the system and we couldnt find the install info for the card. Went to NVidia's website and downloaded drivers now the computer wont boot up. We keep getting a blue screen that says windows encountered a problem. I cant remember if the system came with a card that wasnt cutting it or if there was integrated graphics on the motherboard. So when we experienced the problem booting after installing drivers for the card I went into setup and changed the video to onboard graphics now we get nothing at bootup and monitor keeps going to sleep.

I cannot uninstall WMP11 off my comp because im on Vista (32bit) and i really dont wanna system restore.

Outlook and now i am finding that with my new Vista some things i am forced to use you for. like scanning pictures to send to others and if you dont have the right info input; you will be advised of a lot of error remarks...As long as you have been around; i think you should make your server more friendly user for people that are not pro's or experts..

My first problem is that none of my mail or address book downloaded. i can get over that. But I cant receive any mail. I can send it though. I have added Windows mail as an accepted program in Windows Firewall. I have unistalled Norton Virus. Ive removed the account twice and readded it. I have contacted support for Outlook, They say my anti virus program may need to be set up to accept Windows mail but I think Ive done that now by changing the Firewall. I read on here that maybe I should switch to a Windows live account but email address is a buisness account so can i just switch servers?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have C & D drives, I use D for mundane filesdownloads and portable apps. However, I have a few folders that's are different from any I've seen. I don't know how to explain it other than using a detailed example.
I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.
When I put e.g. documents in my publick folder, do they appear automatically in the private folder too? Do I really need 2 folders to see all my docs in vista?

The possible causes are not the problem. I have 2 gig memory and it was working fine when I only had 1 gig of memory. Disk space, I have over 90 gig of free space.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThis has happened to me before - somehow the folder formats change themselves, eg the documents folder has options along the top like 'organise' 'view''slideshow' and 'burn' ie like in the pictures folder. I found the answer once before in one of the forums, but can't remember where it was. And why does this happen? Also, when I go to 'Help & support" in the Start button, it defaults to Lenovo (my hardware mfg) instead of Microsoft Windows.
