Download Install Without Prompt Password

Oct 27, 2009

So I am trying to download a image burning software, however my husband has turned control freak and put an admin password and it keeps asking me for it. I dont care about the password I just want to know if there is a program I can download/install without being prompt for the password? Or is there a program already on vista that can burn iso discs?

Mail Password Prompt When Switching Users

Mar 23, 2008

My wife and I have different email ids with the same ISP and I have setup a shared Store Folder that we both use. Vista Mail is setup in each of our Accounts so that when I "send and receive" I get her emails as well as mine. The same happens from her own User Account.

The problem that we now have, which did not occur on Windows XP and Outlook, is that whenever we "Switch User" and start up Mail we are prompted by Windows Security to enter the User Name and Password for each email account even though "Remember my credentials" is checked.

I have tried all of the "fixes" I can find including deleting c:/Users/Username/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Protect and not using the "Apply" button when creating the Mail Accounts (See "Microsoft mail does not retain username and password" in this Newsgroup).

Password Prompt Not Working When Laptop Sleep

Apr 16, 2010

I am having a problem that started about 1 week ago with my password protection.I have absolutely no idea what I have done to cause the problem and have tried Googleing, but cannot find a solution. When I lift my lid on my laptop (whether it is plugged in or not)I have settings coordinated in a way so that I am prompted for my password for security reasons (obviously).I have the lid settings, set to 'sleep'(and have also tried 'hibernate' as well). All of a sudden the only time I am prompted to enter my password is on Startup. Checked all settings; tried hibernate (plugged in and unplugged) same as sleep and nothing worked.

Tried changing my password and also turning it off and on and still it is not working! I am the only one who uses my computer, therefore I am the Administrator. The concern is, anyone in the workplace can open my laptop lid and have full access to my laptop, as well as the sticky beaks at home. I am not familiar with drivers etc nor do I know how to figure out what versions of particular programs I am running, but if given steps can easily figure it out.

Find Download And Install The Update?

Oct 24, 2009

Running Vista Home Prem32Bit....will Upgrade to Windows7 32BIT. Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? It should not be this difficult, I need to update PEAP and I have spent many hours at the Cisco site and Internet searches and have been unable to find the download that will update Cisco PEAP Module to a version that is Compatible with Windows 7. Hopefully someone else has been sucessful and has located the site where I can download and install the Update.........

Download And Install Updates: Crashes

Mar 23, 2008

ever since I allowed my new computer (6 mos. old, and running Vista) to download and install the updates available Feb. 12, it has been a horror show. My computer is crashing at least once a day. I've tried going back to various previous restore points, but then, after the "restore process", up pops the message "System retore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. ". In addition I can no longer use task bar tabs in Wordperfect, to, for example change margins. If I do, up on the screen flashes a message saying that I've committed an error, then terminates my word processing screen. Even if I bring up a letter I typed ayear ago and try to change anything, Vista interjects and closes the application.

Icon And Reminders, Download And Install?

whether to download and install them. But it seems the Icon and reminders won't go away unless I choose what MS wants, which is to install it. If I choose NOT to install a particular update, is the damned icon going to sit in my system tray and keep NAGGING me until I do, or is there a way to make it go away - without turning off Updates completely. There is an IE update which I don't care to add because I don't use IE, but when I choose not to install it, the icon won't go away.

Can Run Install Without Requiring An Admin Password

Apr 13, 2008

Can anyone explain how to enable that users are able to download and execute files, so they can install programs, while preventing access to system folders like "C:program files" and "C:windows"? Right now I have succeeded in configuring a user account so they can write to the hard disk in most locations except system folders, but when users try to run a program (in order to install it in a folder where they are allowed to write files), they are still asked for a password. So I want to disable that password somehow so users can run and install programs without requiring an administrator password.

System Restore Applet Fails To Open / Windows Updates Download But Fail To Install

Jul 29, 2009

A friend's Vista SP1 PC is failing to install Windows Updates and also some other updates such as those for Itunes. The symptom is that the updates get downloaded but the installation phase never finishes (he's left it for 12 hours!). In the case of the Windows Updates, there are several updates that try to install themselves as the PC is shutdown or even restarted, but the message "Installing 1 of 6" never advances: the only recourse is to switch the PC off.

As I was looking at the PC, I noticed one thing which may have a bearing on this and may even be the cause: the System Restore applet (windowssystem32 strui.exe) fails to run. It displays an initial User Account Control window but the "Restore System Files and Settings - choose a restore point" window never appears. No error message is displayed and there are no entries in any of the Event Log logs.

It occurred to me that if System Restore is buggered, this might prevent any updates working if the first thing they try to do is to create a restore point before installation begins. I can't find any reference to System Restore failing to open its initial Window - I've looked on support.microsoft.com and done a general Google search for "Vista System Restore fails". All the info seems to describe possible problems if you get slightly further and select a restore point which then fails to install properly.

Invalid Password: Setup And Changed User Password From Set To Clear But Left Other Passwords At Set

I have Vista Home Premium on an Acer Laptop and all was fine until I decided to change my user password. I had or have (who knows now at this stage) an Administrator,User and HDD password installed on my machine. I went into my setup and changed my user password from set to clear but left my other passwords at set. when I exited and saved changes and rebooted I could not get back in with any and all passwords. To make things worse I cannot boot from cd either. It goes to press <F2> go to setup , Enter Current Password: ? then Invalad password I have tried the F10, F12, Del, F5, F8 keys and nothing seems to get past that login screen. Does anyone have any inexpensive suggestions on how I can get into this computer, or how I can get to a command prompt. Can I un-solder the internal Battery and then re attach it.

Looking For Bootable Command Prompt

Feb 13, 2010

the thread title says it all: I'm looking for a lightweight bootable command prompt which supports ntfs drives and supports x64 command line tools. Something like Freedos x64 or command.com x64 (if they existed which unfortunately they don't).

So far, all I can do is to boot into Windows' own command shell, but this is far from being lightweight. Every Linux supports booting into a pure command line mode, so there must be something similar for Windows with x64 support. Basically, the recovery console would suffice if it allowed using external command line tools, but afaik this is not the case.
