I have a VistaUltimate 64 installation that had SP RC1 installed. I duly uninstalled it, apparently successfully, but I cannot install SP1 either from the standalone download or WU. I get the message SP1 is already installed. I still have the evaluation copy text on my screen. There is no entry anymore in program settings regarding SP1 RC1. Is there a workaround for this. I do not want to rebuild this PC.

SP1 has been nothing but trouble for me, never been able to install it, done all the suggested fixes from microsoft. Downloaded the standalone install exe and still no luck. It's been doing my head in, Is there any deffinate reasons that hsould make mem want to upgrade because my computer is far from disfunctional as it is but I would like it to be upgraded.

So quickly system restored back and luckily was able to retrieve the old version which is an actual client installed on my PC as opposed to hotmail.com. Anyway, I've noticed with my old version of messenger, i am plagued with that annoying cant sign in troubleshoot thing and thought i might want to upgrade to the WLM 2009 messenger. THing is, with this new WLM suite range, i cannot upgrade messenger without upgrading my email client. Is there a trick to upgrade messenger without upgrading mail?

1) I had to go on a chat line to actually get Mozilla Firefox installed.
2) This machine will download things, but will never install. I have tried to install things like ITunes, KodakEasyShare.....no go
3) Have noticed that the Windows Update will not install the update for 2007 Microsoft Office Suite Service Pack 1. FAILS every time!
4) Error code that I get is 80200053 And when I try to install things this is the series of codes that I get:

I have run an antispyware...I was clean. I do not know what else to do. I am so frustrated it irks me to think a brand new computer would have all these gliches already!
I tried to download/install a game from realarcade today. When the installer program was running I got a message that an error occured. I tried to redownload the game and this time I got a windows message that files were corrupted, try again. I also got a dialog box saying the program might not have installed properly or I could check it had installed properly. I clicked cancel but immediately another box appeAred as if it were trying to install. I hit cancel. My question, where does all the files/programing reside after I hit cancel. Can any of it be left over and be in an incomplete state and mess up anything else? I looked in programs to see if it could be uninstalled but it was not in that list.

After download a window just pops up and says 'windows has identified a porblem with this software' saying it is not digitally signed. The main program i am trying to down load is AVG (but it does it with other programs too) , i know the software is good because i used to have it on my laptop. I installed it with a dual boot putting Vista on a little partition so I could see how I liked it. No I am ready to wipe out my XP and Previous Vista and start over. However all I have is this big zip file and unpacked there is no documentation or anything for that matter on how to make a disk, or make a disk from an ISO file.

Ran Microsoft's Windows 7 Advisor....the Report shows under the PROGRAM section, Cisco PEAP MODULE 1.0.13 is not compatible. It shows update is available and when you click on it you go to a Cisco Site....but I couldn't find the download, for that matter, any downloads. I have tried to get help from CISCO, it is impossible. All I wanted was the link to download the Update and all they wanted was a contract number. I don't even know what this program does...it may be the wireless Password Security? My computer is crashing at least once a day. I've tried going back to various previous restore points, but then, after the "restore process", up pops the message "System retore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore. ". In addition I can no longer use task bar tabs in Wordperfect, to, for example change margins. If I do, up on the screen flashes a message saying that I've committed an error, then terminates my word processing screen. Even if I bring up a letter I typed ayear ago and try to change anything, Vista interjects and closes the application.

I only have dial up at home. I have t-1 line at work. How can I download (where is link) at work to install at home? There is no detailed error message telling me why it failed to install. I've tried both the automatic and manual download versions of SP1. View 5 Replies View RelatedA friend's Vista SP1 PC is failing to install Windows Updates and also some other updates such as those for Itunes. The symptom is that the updates get downloaded but the installation phase never finishes (he's left it for 12 hours!). In the case of the Windows Updates, there are several updates that try to install themselves as the PC is shutdown or even restarted, but the message "Installing 1 of 6" never advances: the only recourse is to switch the PC off.
As I was looking at the PC, I noticed one thing which may have a bearing on this and may even be the cause: the System Restore applet (windowssystem32 strui.exe) fails to run. It displays an initial User Account Control window but the "Restore System Files and Settings - choose a restore point" window never appears. No error message is displayed and there are no entries in any of the Event Log logs.
It occurred to me that if System Restore is buggered, this might prevent any updates working if the first thing they try to do is to create a restore point before installation begins. I can't find any reference to System Restore failing to open its initial Window - I've looked on support.microsoft.com and done a general Google search for "Vista System Restore fails". All the info seems to describe possible problems if you get slightly further and select a restore point which then fails to install properly.
I have Vista Ultimate 64, sometimes when I am downloading a large file download does not finish and I get an error box that the download had timed out. How can I stop this, the sites where is happens do no support resuming and I only have a slow connection.

Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.

The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.
I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)

That the second one would catch things that the first one might miss. So I'm gathering that this isn't true? I did look on the Kaspersky web page last night as I saw it listed on another firewall question and thought it looked pretty good. So which is better? Kaspersky Internet Suite, Kaspersky Anti-Virus, or this AVG one. I do want to purchase the whole program as the free trials only last for 30 days.
