Does Not Work Sfc /scannow
May 15, 2010does not work, or it opens and closes instantly . .any thoughts on what might be causing this?

Ran Sfc /scannow As An Administrator
May 13, 2009Ran sfc /scannow as an administrator. Received the following message when it finished. Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log, etc. Copied the CBS.log to my desktop and opened it. It was quite large so I deleted all entries except those made today. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but there didn't appear to be any anomalies. The last two lines in the log were:
2009-05-13 09:18:11, Info CSI 000001cd [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired. 2009-05-13 09:19:45, Info CBS Scavenge: Package store indicates there is no component to scavenge, skipping. These two lines seem to be saying that all is well and that it was not necessary to find any replacement files.
Sfc /scannow Stops At 39%
Sep 17, 2009I am running Vista Home Premium x32 SP1 on a Dell XPS T8300@2.4 GHz. Whenever I try to run sfc /scannow it stops at either 39% or 69% ('Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation')and at the same time I get a pop-up message 'Windows modules installer stopped working and was closed'. I decided to run the sfc because yesterday morning I found my pc with a blue screen and the dreaded 'Windows has encountered a fatal error...' message. It booted successfully but I noticed several things (so far): all entries from System restore had disappeared, Windows updates had failed several times in the last 3 days trying to install Windows Vista SP2 (KB948465), and the 'uninstall/repair program' button in the control panel did not work (when I right-click over a highlighted program I only get two empty squares and no options). So I could not restore the system, could not update it and could not uninstall the most recent programs that might have caused the problem.
The next step was to do a repair install since I have the original Dell installation DVD for Vista SP1 but the upgrade was also unsuccessful - in the beginning of the installation I got a pop-up window with the message: setup.exe - Bad Image : C:Windowssystem32uniplat.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. I clicked 'Ok', the installation ran for about 1 1/2 hours and afterwards a message informed me that it was not successful and my system was being restored to its previous state.........
SFC Utility And Scannow
Dec 2, 2009I recently got a new external hard drive with 1TB capacity and have tried to do a back up of my files. There was an error when I tried to do this ox81000008 which informs me that I must use the Sytem File Checker. I have opened up a command prompt to and typed in sfc /scannow
However it won't run and I'm being informed "You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility". I am the only person that uses my PC and my profile has full administration. how I might be able to successfully backup my files?
Sfc Scannow - Cannot Repair File
Aug 25, 2009SFc scannow is reporting that the system cannot repair some corrupt files. From reading the CBS log I found this entry:

Feb 12, 2009I powered up my Vista 64 machine tonight and chkdsk starting going berserk. I saw a whole bunch of "deleting index entry" and something about Windows and AMD64. I had no idea what I was even seeing until I did some research, but I'm confused about what's happening. Anyway, from a command prompt I ran sfc /scannow and this is what I saw: C:UsersAdministrator>sfc /scannow

SFC /scannow Found Two Termserv.dll Files
May 30, 2009I looked at the CBS.log and found that doing a search this has been going on since 1/2008 and my system runs fine. I just rebooted yesterday with 1252 hours of processor idle time so I think the system is stable. I looked at repairing the dll file from the vista disk but I think I could learn Chinese sooner than follow all these steps to take ownership and get the files from the disk.

May 12, 2010This friend of mine has real problem with her laptop (Vista sp1)it was first noticed when her anti-virus did a scheduled scan. The anti-virus program hung whilst scanning the System32 folder.I tried with Windows Defender. Same thing, it hangs after a while.
I de-activated her anti-virus program (forgot the name. Not a well known brand) and downloaded/installed Avast, to no avail it also hangs whilst scanning the System32 folder.I also tried to scan using SFC/scannow. The PC freezes at 68 % of the scan.I tried these different manipulation in safe mode.Same results and everytime, the PC Freezes and I am obliged to do a hard stop/restart.

Mar 23, 2008I'm using Vista Ultimate. You can suppose that if I'm writing here it's because I'm finding some problems (and I'm unable to solve them by myself). I'm quite sure that I don't have malware on my computer. It's usually not connected to internet. I think I have some kind of system files & registry corruption.
"Chkdsk" says the filesystem is ok. Next step would be running "sfc" (sfc /scannow). But it refuses to start. The message is: "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." I already tried it starting in "safe mode". I tried also to install "Service Pack 1" but it I couldn't.
CBS File " Access Denied " After Running Sfc/scannow
Jun 15, 2009I ran sfc/scannow in administrator mode and it said it had found some corrupt files that it was unable to fix. I opened the C:WindowsLogsCBS directory and it contained 5 files: CBS,CBS.persist,CheckSUR,CheckSUR.persist and Filterlist. I attempted to open CBS but a message says " Access is denied ". The same applied to CBS.persist. I am able to open CheckSUR, CheckSUR.persist and Filterlist. Upon opening properties on these three files the date created, modified and accessed is May-28-09. The dates for CBS are as follows: Created: November-27-08; Modified: June-15-09; Accessed: May-31-09. The dates for CBS.persist are: Created: November-27-08; Modified May-31-09; Accessed:November-27-08. The CBS file is apparently 15.7 MB and the CBS.persist file is 50.2 MB. access the relevant CBS file?

Jul 1, 2008I have been wracking my brain for weeks now, trying to play C&C First Decade with Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge over the LAN, it will only run on IPX networking which I could setup with 2x XP machines, I have Vista Ultimate on my PC, and XP on another, I found some drivers for IPX to work on Vista, didn't work ... So I loaded Hamachi which had built-in IPX support. Now when I open RA2, it no longer says IPX unavailable, it shows 00 00 00...
So it can see my Hamachi adapter with IPX support, great! The other XP machine has Hamachi installed, and they are both VPN'd (Connected) on the same Hamachi Network. They don't see each other... The XP machine shows a few IPX networks, I have tried switching to them all, even put the Hamachi adapter and the LAN adapter to the top of the preferred networks list. This was sort-of a breeze with both XP, but with Vista it's looking to be a bit tricky. I have no firewalls running on either machine and I am pretty cluey when it comes to networking (TCP/IP that is).

a) I installed a Antivirussoftware - after 3 Weeks it suddently didn't work any more (Kaspersky) I couldn't reinstall it.

c) 4 days later I started to get errormessages "Windows Defender doesn't work any more" - "Windows Hostprocess doesn't work anymore"
RAM Won`t Work Like It Did
Sep 3, 2008Well, my Memory RAM doesn`t work like it used to.
Later on, my Memory RAM Score was like 5,9 on RAM and now it is 4,8 after i formatted my computer. I`m sometimes experiencing some slowdowns, like i type a entire word, and after 3 seconds it shows up. Or i scroll down, and after like 4 , 5 seconds the page shows up.
OBS: The Paging file is managed by the System ( I Used to let it on 4 mb )

Nov 26, 2008i plugged a usb flash drive into my front usb. (now does not work on any pc) when i plugged it in first time a message came up saying error could not read what was inserted etc. My front USB's appear to know something is going in sometimes and then other times don't. it read a webcam being connected. but when i tried an external hard drive i got a similar problem as with my usb flash drive. luckily that still works on my old pc though. back usb ports seem to be doing similar weird behaviour. Jul 4, 2009Ever since I burned a movie to a dvd my dvd/cd drive will not allow me to watch a movie or listen to a music cd. When I insert a movie dvd my computer does not recogonize it. I go under my computer to my dvd drive and try to open it and it ejects the disk and says please insert a disk. If I insert a blank dvd +rw it recogonizes it. It is like my computer dvd/cd drive is in a permanent burn mode, not a read mode.

May 19, 2008I recently upgraded to Vista and do now experience that a VPN connection which worked fine under XP now does not work any more. Under XP the authentication has the value 'MS CHAP'. So I suppose that my VPN ist not working under Vista as MS has decided to not include MS CHAP v1 any more. Although all sharing/permissions are properly set and it worked the last time it will not work when needed again without rebooting one or more computers. This is why mine and nearly every business on the face of the Earth has not adapted Vista: it is totally unsuitable for mission critical networks of any size. XP is far from perfect but it is orders of magnitude more stable for networking. Vista SP3 or whatever name Microsoft thinks they can peddle the same schlock under is a deader than dead issue already because it is nothing but Vista with a marginally different GUI and with the economy the way it is who gives a rat's behind about it anyway?
