i was loading a new windows biz. unto a frozen windows vista basic machine. i could nt do any back up disc cos it does nt start up. after about 2 hrs of loading files to the computer there comes an error message that the system can't load the files. now am trying 2 get back to my old frozen state but does stop from booting over and over again. i must say that i only chose the option to push the files n stuff to windows.old so i could go catch it in a second moment but now i dont even get the chance to start it up at all.
I am new to this forum and to Vista Ult64. Today I had a nightmare experience. I was running a standard PowerPoint 2007 presentation from my new HP laptop with Vista Ult64 connected to a standard projector and the laptop went very strange switching in and out of the presentation while the CPU was showing an extraordinary amount of activity (especially when I was playing short low res AVIs). It even crushed Powerpoint at some stage. At home when I am not connected to a projector all is well with no drama at all.
apon using windows update, it froze around update 25, and windows modules installer stopped working. Now i have a issue with the windows licensing service, one second my windows is legit, the next it isnt, the next windows licensing stops working. I've tried to reinstall 5+ times now, on 2 different harddrives, and it does the same thing on both
the problem is, after installing my Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne on my Windows 7 beta, 7000build. I can run War3.exe after the installation. When I restarted my computer, the problem starts here. Every time I open my War3, It minimizes on my task bar. When I click it again, it maximizes for around 1 second then minimizes again. I know its running fine because I can hear the sounds of the program and I can see the menu for 1 second.
I'm wondering if this is fixable. I search the internet for similar problem but it looks like I'm the only one having this kind of problem. I tried Updating my Video Card driver, I think I have the latest.
I was watching a programme online and noticed my other open windows seemed to have frozen (the cursor was doing the busy rotating "o" symbol and when I attempted to bring up the other windows nothing happened). Ultimately even the window I had open froze so I tried CTRL-ALT-DELETE to open Task Manager. Nothing happened. I turned off my laptop and turned it back on. I selected "Start Windows Normally" and got as far as the Microsoft Corporation page with the loading bar...but the Windows logo never appeared. After about 10 mins I freaked out and turned off my laptop again. Tried turning it on again, was given the option of Startup Repair. Chose this option, but still ended up at the Microsoft Corporation page with a futile loading bar as if nothing had happened. Any ideas what's wrong? Have tried selecting Vista as operating system from Setup Menu, but still nada.
When I tried to install Vista Service Pack 1, it gave me an internal = error. I went to the web link provided there, and done all the necessary = steps except Windows Update. The computer I want to install service pack = 1 onto, is not connected to the internet. So I downloaded the full = service pack, and tried to install it there, but now it seems that it = needs additional updates from Windows Update. Can anyone please provide = me with a list of updates needed on that computer to allow Service Pack = 1 to be installed, and then I could download them manually.
I have been asked by my company to evaluate Vista Buisness for use in our company. All of our laptops are purchased from HP and as of a few months ago come with Vista OEM licenses so licenses are not a problem. But as soon as we receive a new laptop it is imaged with XP removing the original windows vista installation and recovery partition. So we have no copy of Vista oem. Does anyone know a place I can download Vista OEM, (Note I only want the files don't want a pirate copy) which I can use with our OEM key.
As the Threadtitle says, my new PC just arrived with Vista Ultimate x64, and I want to know if it's possible to create Partitions on my HDD's after the Installation of Windows Vista? Or do I have to reinstall Vista to do it?
I needed to temporarily install XP so i formatted the drive. Now my question is, will I need to take out 2GB for the Vista installation this time? I know that if you install Vista through windows then it will check for "Vista updates" before the installation -- is this one of the updates that it checks for?
Looked on this site yesterday as I had frozen icons on my desktop, very helpful advice to go to taskmanager and end process. Since then I have not been able to send and recieve emails, does anyone know if this is something to do with the frozen icon situation?

I am trying to install Microsoft's Screen Recorder on Vista Home Premium with SP1 & 2 and this is my second try. I created a new folder on my desktop and labeled it Screen Recorder download. I downloaded the UtilityOnlineMarch092009 03.exe file to my desktop. I clicked on it and selected to save it to this new folder I created.
There are 3 files: Screen Recorder, setup and WMEncoder. It is my understanding the encoder has to be installed first so I clicked on that. The install box opens and seems to run right along. The fills with green as it installs and according to that the install should be done and I should click Next. But above it says "Installing Windows Media runtime files ..." and there it sit frozen. It's been that way now for 20 minutes.
If I go to C/Program Files there is a folder called Windows Media Components and within that a file called Encoder and it is full of files. I have attached screen shots of the encoder downloade box that is frozen and of the files appearing in my C drive in that encoder folder.
I have a gateway barebone with P4 @2.8 motherboard and will get a HDD and some ram. I already have a dell computer with windows Vista on it, and extra vista dvd that says (for installation only with new Dell PC). If I install it on the GATEWAY computer with the new HDD will I have any problems?
I have changed my motherboard and processor (dual core). The old motherboard was corrupted. Vista Ultimate upgrade version, not OEM, didn't work anymorrow. I tried to reinstall Vista. System refused to reïnstall, because it was an upgrade version. Then I tried to reïnstall my original Windows XP version. This was unsucessfull because Windows XP don''t support Dual Core! What do do? Going tomorrow to the shop and buy a new Vista?
I had been able to do it.. but wondering if its something common Can we use the Vista Business installation cd to install vista home or Home premium?? I know the repair works with any vista installation cds
Every now and again, a strange thing happenes to my start bar. It completely freezes, and I can't click anything on there apart from the start button. I can't select any tabs, or use the system tray. If that doesn't happen, sometimes the Start button decides to freeze instead. Basically it goes dark (like it does when it has been pressed) and then it stays like that and it won't let me open it.
I can't use my touchpad. My arrow/cursor is frozen in the middle of the screen.
1) I can still use external mouse
2) I saw in similar post somebody suggested using memory tool scan from microsoft. I did find that but when I clicked on it the owner was not microsoft but some other name. I am tired of downloding stuff on my computer and find out later that they are spyware etc..
3) I purchased Norton 360 which does not help
4) I ran system restore, did not help. First when I ran system restore it gave me error message "unspecified error during system restore" I ran it in safemode and now I could restore. Then I had to do the updates again. Rebooted toshiba laptop agai and the cursor still frozen
I had been running Vista since it came out last year with no compatible issues at all. However, there were several issues with performance and finally late last year I gave up and went back to XP. Now that the SP1 is available, I want to go back and install Vista, but for some reason, my computer won't recognize the disc. It trys, but just can't load it. I've tried other DVDs and have burned a couple and they all work fine. For whatever reason, the problem is with the Vista DVD.
I am having a bit of a problem upgrading from xp to vista. I currently have windows xp media center and am trying to upgrade to vista home premium using the upgrade version. Basically whenever I get to 27% of the 'expanding files' process on the installation i get a message which says 'windows cannot prepare the computer to boot ino the next phase of installation. to complete installation, please restart the wizard' or words to that effect.... I have tried opting for a clean install or an upgrade and get the same problems every time. I have run the upgrade advisor and it says everything is fine apart from my network card which needs the 'driver'
I just bought parts for a new computer, today i finished putting together, now when I try to install Vista, it hangs at the 'loading files....' screen. I've tried installing XP Pro too, and it gives me a STOP C0000221'Unknown Hard Error' after it copies all the files, and tries to start the installation.
Got a new laptop today and turned it on and started to install Vista and then as I was also putting my xbox back on to my table next the the laptop the extension cord for the laptop came out and it turned off. Now it wont install and keeps on repeating the same error message that I should restart and when I do the error box pops up again.
I am new to windows Vista, but have allready looked around a good bit and am certainly not a newbie on a computer. I have encountered an installation problem that just baffles me and I can't find any information on it. I want to install the Live Essential package with the wlsetup-web.exe from the download page for windows live. That would be as simple as to run the installer and done. Only this one pops up a small window. I have installed a lot of other programs, so it is not with every installer. I have this only with this installer. Does anybody know what the installation executable is looking for. I would like to add that the full package download also shows the same behavior. I have two installations of Windows Vista Home Premium x64 and on the second machine I have no problem installing the live applications. The simple conclusion is that the concerning Vista installation is corrupted in some way.
I recently built a computer with Vista Ultimate 64bit. I absolutley love it and have only had two problems. LOCKED UP Randomly the computer will just lock up. No graphical glitching, no errors, no nothing. In fact if you just came in the room and looked at the screen everything would appear normal. This happens when doing any manner of things. It has happened when playing games, surfing the net, working on a document or even when the computer is left on overnight.
Its very sporatic too. I have gone a whole week without it happening with turning the computer on and off. I have also had it happen a few times within a few hours. Sometimes I can leave the computer on for a few days and it wont happen, sometimes it will happen right after I have signed in..............
I just recently bought the game and installed it, when I went to go run it my entire computer locks up and has to be hard booted. Looking on forums I ran it as administrator and also in Windows XP SP2 compatibly mode. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problem and my computer still locks up and requires a hard boot. I do not even get into the game before this happens. The screen stays at the desktop frozen. Another program I have also mimics this, Autodesk Inventor. Not sure if they are related but my teacher said that Vista 64bit seems to always be the problem. I would like to get both of these programs running, especially Battlefield 2142, but my computer seems to be fighting me. Many other games work, it is the deluxe edition, patched till 1.50.
I purchased a PC with Vista Home Premium preinstalled. It came with no media. The product key is on the side of the PC and nearly illegible. I purchased a DVD to upgrade from Home Premium to Vista Ultimate. With help from the PC manufacturer's download site, I was able to upgrade to Vista Ultimate 32-bit error free. I still have no installation media. I wish to install Vista 64 bit. (To best of my understand upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit is not possible, only clean install or custom install). I'm a little confused by my interaction with Windows site at:

I cannot seem to obtain the option to order 64-bit media, but I am given an option to order the 32-bit installtion media which I do not yet own, only the upgrade media. Do I first need to order the 32-bit media before I am eligible for the 64-bit media? Do I need to wait for delivery? Can I order 32-bit media and 64-bit media and put it all on one credit card transaction?
I have vista 64 and ive been trying to install intels 8.3.1.1009 chipset drivers(inf).
Ive tried downloading from intel and gigabyte. same version which "DOES SUPPORT VISTA 64" problem is , it runs the installation process ok but after reboot i check device manager and the same drivers are there? it doesnt seem to want to install the newer drivers?
The older drivers are outdated so i need the newer versions since i do like to overclock.
Gigabyte told me its a vista issue and a common one. and that i have to contact microsoft for an answer.
i want to reformat my laptop. it originally had xp but i upgraded to vista home premium, if i reformat, can i use the vista upgrade again? on the box it says one installation on one pc. anyone shed any light for me
Here's what I've run into. Installed Vista Ultimate x64 on my harddrive and ran into a problem with my motherboard (Intel DP45SG). End result was that I could not boot my original installaton of Vista. BIOS related. Tried all of the recovery options and none of them worked. Bit the bullet and reinstalled Vista fresh. Unfortunately I did not see the option to format the old info when I did this. This caused the old OS to be moved to it's own partition on my harddrive.
This old info on it's partition is only visible on Paragon Partition Manager 9 and not in Vista's Disk Management. Vista shows my harddrive as 936 GB instead of 1,000GB. I do not seem to have any way of accessing this partition or of getting rid of it. Paragon PM shows the partition as being unformated. When I try to format it or delete it with Paragon PM I get a message that this can only be done with the Recovery CD. This partition does not show up in the Recovery CD when it's run. I don't want to give up 70gp of hard drive room just the hell of it!!
if someone could give me some guidance on the following problem. A few days back, it looked like I might have to reload Vista. When I put the supplied Vista DVD in the either of the 2 optical drives, the operating system appeared to boot up as normal from the hard disc. When I go into Setup, the boot order is as follows:-
1.CD-ROM 2.SONY DVD ROM 3.HARD DISK
This is a bit strange as the 2 optical drives that are fitted are
SONY DVD-ROM DDU1615. SAMSUNG SH-S183 DVD/CD WRITER.
The SAMSUNG was fitted by the company I bought the pc from about 3 months after the purchase because the original SONY DVD Writer would only burn CD'S & not DVD's. The Sony was EIDE but the SAMSUNG is SATA. The Bios does'nt appear to give any details about the SAMSUNG drive so it seems its not been included in the list of boot devices & I do not know how to fix that.....
Microsoft has made a great impression on an Apple Mac user. So much so that I will be installing Vista on his Mac this afternoon. I am so excited by this that I can barely contain myself. Convert them one Vista installation at a time!
