Can Not Find Small Close Button In AIM
Mar 19, 2008I was searching around Google for a while and wasn't able to find any answers. I'm using Home Premium x64 SP1, and the annoyance is AOL Instant Messenger. AIM has small buttons for the top right (minimize, maximize, and close) and for some reason Vista can't detect them as being those buttons. So since Vista's got a thick resize area, I can only mouse over 1/4 of the close button before it changes to the resize cursor. I was hoping some of you have found a workaround or solution to this, and I'm not interested in using another IM program. I've included a small screen shot in case you don't have AIM installed and can see for yourself how small the buttons are.

Mar 30, 2009In Explorer's left pane there is a down arrow used I believe to close the Folders. When I click this down arrow the folders become invisible (closed) but I'm unable to reopen them unless I close Explorer and reopen it. Also, without having to to install 3rd party software, is there a way in Explorer tot display ONLY the Folder structure of my drives? I want only to 'see' C: open and the other drives closed. I'm using Vista Home Basic SP1

Mar 29, 2009I can't close anything I open, only through task bar, but the X (close ) minimise maximise etc are disabled plus right click context on the windows only... (I can right click on start taskbar etc)... this is after i installede bootskin (which had an error whilst installing.. about somethign.. then uninstalled it but still foooked vista).. if i cant fix this i need to reinstall never come across this problem before sigh.

Display Blacks Out Then Reappears When I Close Then Open
Mar 11, 2010I have an inconvenience that is slowly turning into a problem. At odd times, my screen blacks out. I could be typing, playing games, or whatever. I haven't been able to recreate the problem. I'm getting instruction from HP now. I'm told to update my 965 chipset (I think that's display), update my BIOS, and update NVIDIA driver. When I update any drivers, I'm told, by the computer, that the installation was unsuccessful and that I should try again. 3 times is enough in my book. I have updated my BIOS and that turned out to by fruitless. I try to pinpoint the event in my event viewer, thinking this will help me, and I find I don't know the TYPE of event this is. I'm searching the net for the type of event I'm having. I have also turned off my UAC because I read that it sometimes interferes with the display, but only when the UAC window is up. Long shot, I know, but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

Aug 25, 2009Appologies in advance if I'm being too long winded or not providing enough detail (1st post). I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit (sp2) on an HP Pavillion dv6700 laptop. The issue I'm having is that the "XP style" File menu bar keeps randomly opening up and then closing whenever I have any Office product, IE, or the explorer open. I've never "turned on" this option so no clue why this started to do this a little over a week ago. Initailly I found that it got worse (more frequently opening/closing the menu bar) when I had my external hard drives (EHDs) connected but at this point it's near constant without them connected and it's locking up the programs so that I can't type or click on anything.
I've not installed any new software in months; and the only downloads I've taken/installed were files from trusted sites and several system updates. My 1st impression was either a virus or a system update conflict from either or both HP or Windows; the latter has not been an uncommon issue. My anitvirus is up-to-date & a complete scan turned up nothing, even on my EHDs. I've gone back twice using the restore points; the 2nd time going back over 2 weeks prior to the start of this issue. I'm out of ideas short of doing a complete reinstall from my back-up partition.
Slow Loading Websites: Close IE Or Firefox And Re-open The Website It Takes 32-40 Seconds
Oct 5, 2009When I open the first website it takes 42 seconds. The second takes 20 no matter what order I open them. If I close IE or Firefox and re-open the website it takes 32-40 seconds. The second takes 20. When I open the first program it takes 9 seconds. I do not have a lot of programs running, run my utilities regularly, use CCleaner daily. My hardrive has 50 of 150g used. Is there a way to cut down the load time of the initial website?

View 8 Replies View Related, Outlook 07 And Exchange 03: Open Outlook It Says, Cannot Open The Default E-mail Folders
Mar 23, 2008When I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.
Store Location Change Can't Find Sent Folders
May 25, 2009Under *Inbox* in Windows Mail I have a dozen or so sub-folders titled by the sender such as "From NatWest 09", or "From Family & Friends 09". I _*HAD,*_ until last week, a similar numbers of sub-folders under Windows Mail *Sent*, such as "To NatWest 09" or "To Family & Friends 09". All the *Sent* file folders have now disappeared. I have accessed Tools, Options,Advanced, Maintenance, Store Folder, Store Location and Change, but cannot find any of the Sent folders anywhere. Can anyone please suggest a way to find and restore them?

Mar 6, 2010I'm using vista home premium on a Toshiba Satellite M305. I can't open any folders. Double clicking or right clicking and clicking open won't work. Nothing happens when I try. Folders will only open if I right click and click "explore". Then, that folder and all the folders I tried to open before open. Once I have folders open, I can open folders normally by double clicking. But once I close those folders, I have to open folders by right clicking "explore". How can I get folders to open just by double clicking it?

Aug 28, 2009I have 2 XP computers & 2 vista computers on a network. All computers have the same workgroup name. All computers have all drives & folders checked for File shareing. I can do anything I need to copy or modify files from the XP computers using the Vista computers. I can see all drives. folders on the Vista Computers from the XP computers but cannot open any of the folders. so the system works well opening Xp files from Vista computers but not the other way around...any ideas...????

Mar 26, 2008In Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing toward 2 o???clock. When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard (DesktopGerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one. But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), it says:???The following object, Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), is not from a domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid. I???m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did not exist before.

Oct 13, 2008I am new to this forum. Recently, I have been not able to see thumbnails of pictures. All i can see is the standard river and tree like thingy. Secondly, I can't open folders in the same window. Each time i double click, it gets opend in a new window. I tried different methods to both the problems like going to folder options, unchecking "always show icon, never thumbnails" , a full scan of my system( using norton). I even tried some of the solutions posted in this forum. But still both the problems are not solved.
One thing i noticed is that, when i on my computer, i can see thumbanils for few seconds then all of them get changed to the standard image.(river and tree). Could this be due to a virus or something?

Apr 26, 2008Vista had a freeze up when trying to transfer files from a USB stick - however all seemed normal after a restart. I also "upgraded" to AVG v8.01 (free) I have no idea if either of these actions have caused my problem. Now whenever I open 'any' folder it takes several seconds before the contents appear. After this all other folders open instantly. If I then close all the open folders - this behaviour repeats with the first folder to be opened taking time to open.

Unable To Open Attachments In Windows Mail: Windows Cannot Find File Name
Jul 29, 2009There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.
