When I boot up in the morning, I have to wait 20 to 30 mins before Outlook 07 will connect to my Exchange 2003 server. Until then, when I try to open Outlook it says, cannot open the default e-mail folders. And it suggests there is a network issue or that the Exchange server is down. These are not the case. The Exchange server is up and there are no network issues. I have many other computers attached to the network and none of them have this issue. Some our XP Pro/Office 07, some are XP Pro/Office 2003. The big difference with my machine is that it is Vista.
After about 20 to 30 minutes, wow! it connects! And then it's good for the rest of the day. I usually only minimize Outlook after I actually get it open so the connection is maintained throughout the day. I'm not sure what would happen if I closed it completely. But one thing is for sure, every morning, it takes 20 to 30 minutes before it will connect. Eventually, it always connects.

I'm using vista home premium on a Toshiba Satellite M305. I can't open any folders. Double clicking or right clicking and clicking open won't work. Nothing happens when I try. Folders will only open if I right click and click "explore". Then, that folder and all the folders I tried to open before open. Once I have folders open, I can open folders normally by double clicking. But once I close those folders, I have to open folders by right clicking "explore". How can I get folders to open just by double clicking it?

In Windows Vista Home Premium there appeared new restrictions on some (not all) folders, like Application Data, Desktop, Documents etc. They all seem to have in the lower left corner a little square with a blue arrow pointing toward 2 o???clock. When I try to open these folders, I get: ???Access denied.???
When I check the security of the folders (right clicking the folder and clicking security), I notice that the accessible folders have Gerhard (DesktopGerhard) listed, whereas the non- accessible ones have Every-one. But when I try to add in the non-accessible folder Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), it says:???The following object, Gerhard (DesktopGerhard), is not from a domain listed in the Select Location dialog box and therefore not valid. I???m the only user and have administrative privileges. These restrictions did not exist before.

I am new to this forum. Recently, I have been not able to see thumbnails of pictures. All i can see is the standard river and tree like thingy. Secondly, I can't open folders in the same window. Each time i double click, it gets opend in a new window. I tried different methods to both the problems like going to folder options, unchecking "always show icon, never thumbnails" , a full scan of my system( using norton). I even tried some of the solutions posted in this forum. But still both the problems are not solved.
One thing i noticed is that, when i on my computer, i can see thumbanils for few seconds then all of them get changed to the standard image.(river and tree). Could this be due to a virus or something?

Vista had a freeze up when trying to transfer files from a USB stick - however all seemed normal after a restart. I also "upgraded" to AVG v8.01 (free) I have no idea if either of these actions have caused my problem. Now whenever I open 'any' folder it takes several seconds before the contents appear. After this all other folders open instantly. If I then close all the open folders - this behaviour repeats with the first folder to be opened taking time to open.

I'm trying to get my network to function with my Vista x64 laptop. The network has 4 computers total: 3 XP machines, and the Vista Laptop. The three XP machines don't have any issues sharing files. However, I cannot view any XP computers at all on the Vista machine, and I cannot see any of the Vista Shared Folders from my Xp desktop. (I can see the Vista machine on the XP one, but expanding it shows no folders shared.
Rt-click -> explore results in an error: "\Studio72 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found.") I am only able to run ipconfig, net config and browstat info on my XP desktop and my Vista Laptop, as the other two machines are my roommate's desktop, and our little security computer (it just records a webcam set on our front door when we're not home in case someone breaks in)..............

1)what are the benefits of mapped drive and sharing folders in a home network?
2)which folder cannot be shared? can you think of reason why an operating system might not allow certain types of folders to be shared ?
3)Amapped drive provides apointer to a network resourse, but mapped drive letters are said to be locally signification only.what do you think is meant by locally significant ?

Our main wireless internet connection has stopped working on one of the Dell laptops. It works fine on the other and the Mac. When attempting to connect, a "login dialog" appears where it asks for the user, pass and domain. I remember this happening to both Dells (Vista) when we first got the wireless router and the workaround was to manually create the connection.
I'm not sure what has happened to cause this laptop to stop connecting automatically, but I thought a good fix would be to manually create the connection again. Problem is, when I go to the Network window and click on "Network and Sharing Center" a new window briefly appears then disappears. Why is it doing this & how can I fix it??

For as long as I've had my new pc with 32-bit Vista I've had problems with the Network and Sharing Center. The problem never bothered me enough to really do too much about it but now, after a year of it I'm fed up and trying to fix it. So the problem is that I cannot open up the Network and Sharing Center properly. I click it, it takes about 5 minutes for the folder that pops up to be filled with any form of information, and then when the thing finally loads, not a single item inside the folder window is click-able. Under "Sharing and Discovery" there are the options for "Network Discovery," "File Sharing," etc. I can't click the drop-down arrows for any of those options nor can I click any of the options on the side of the window. I can't even close the window without going into Task Manager and sometimes that doesn't even work so I have to reboot the computer.

There are nine folders I can't open. Each displays a message that says "access is denied". I am the admin (the only user). I even ran the windows explorer in admin mode (run as administrator). A few that give this message are: C:UsersJohnapplication data; also cookies; local settings; start menu; etc. I tried to set the security of these folders, but access was denied for that function too.

Awhile back I was given instructions on how to change the folder standard green folders to new pink folders. Well, my computer crashed out and I had to get a new hard drive. I tried to follow the instructions from the previously solved thread, but I can not find the "desktop.ini". When I go to the users folder inside my choices are Administrator and Public and I can not find the "desktop.ini" file. I have windows vista.

I am just configuring Windows Mail in Vista. In Outlook (on XP), I had multiple email accounts linked to different folder structures. Each account had a different set of folders. In Windows Mail, it seems everything is being downloaded into one Inbox. Can I re-create the separate folders for each email account in WinMail?
Also, my gmail accounts folder structure was synchronized with the folder structure on the web using IMAP. Can I do that in WinMail, too? If so, how (or point me to directions)?

I have Vista x64 and I have read threads on this for weeks and can't fix it. I have file sharing/network discovery on, private network, password protection disabled, my shares set to everyone and everyone is on the same workgroup. My problem is that the x64 Vista computer will not see any of the XP (x86 or x64) computers and they can't see it from the Network Neighbourhood. However, if I type the IP address of the XP computers I
can access them. On the XP computers if I type the IP address I get an error that it isn't accessable and I might not have permission. However, if I type \192.168.0.100share or any of the other share names I access it just fine. pinging works too by IP but not by name. If I boot into the x86 install of have of Vista I can access XP computers from Vista and the Vista from XP by name and everything without typing any user names. The only differince between the two aside from x64 and x86 is that x86 isn't patched past SP1 as I don't use it often. Lastly after installing that XP patch I can see the x86 XP computers by name from the network map feature on Vista, still can't access them by name though...

I'm trying to network my new Optiplex 740 with Vista Business (32bit), and Norton 360, to my old Euro PC with W2K Pro. and SystemWorks, using basic Belkin /Realtek cards and yellow ethernet cable. My broadband connection is through my old machine and works perfectly, as does the network card installation.
My new machine also indicates that its card is correctly installed and functioning correctly. BUT the Network and Sharing Center window shows this computer as linked to an Unidentified network and no connection to either the other computer or broadband connection.........
