Can't Create Sub Folder
Mar 23, 2008I cannot create a sub-folder: I am told it already exist but it does not. I checked everything that can be checked in Windows Mail. How do I solve this ?

Apr 7, 2008I have been having some trouble creating folder pictures for my albums and movies. on my old Xp it was a peace of cake doing this, but i can't seem to get it working in vista. I right click on the folder in wich i want the albumart to show, and i choose the picture, and apply the setting but the folder does not change. I don't know if it has something to do with my folder options. I have been searching the net for an answer but there seems to none.

It would be nice if we could have folder structure template OR copy existing one without it's file/document content only the folder structure will be copy. This could be merge with my previous demande to enhance the contextual menu. I could then have new.. folder...process. Chose the one i need and all the folder and sub-folder will be create in one simple operation...........

Apr 29, 2008I have been using Vista Ultimate x64 for more than a year now and this just came up. i realized that i cannot connect to the internet using any x86 programs. my usual firefox 2.0.x would not load any webpage but instead stay on a blank page with the correct address in the address bar. whenever i quit firefox it crashes, and similar thing happens for safari, or IE7 x86. i can only access the internet with IE7x64. i did not do anything between the last time i could access the internet with other programs fine, and the first time i come across this problem. my windows updater is turned off and no updates have been installed during either. and i dont know if this is the same problem, the just-in-time debugger keeps coming up and ask if i want to debug. if i close the window it reopens, and if i say yes a message box says "cannot create appication folder" or something like that.wonder if anyone knows what the problem is? another problem, this one with IE7:since first day using IE7 i have had problem installing plugins to it. everytime i visit a page with a adobe flash file on, IE would prompt me to install the flash player plugin, sometimes twice in a row, while nothing actually happens. same goes for java.

May 4, 2008I've just tried to create a shortcut of the Music folder by dragging it to the desktop, but instead vista places a duplicate (not a copy or a shortcut) of the folder to the desktop. It gets better, i then decided to delete what i thought was the music folder shortcut located on the desktop and hastily clicked the yes
button to trash it. I'm assuming the file names were too big for the bin, and lost over 1300 songs! I'm just after some answers as to why vista does this? Just FYI, the right way to get it off your desktop is to drag it back to it's default folder.

Sep 13, 2009I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 (system specs: laptop 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, 500gb hd (about half full) nvidia 8400M GS, Avira Premium Security Suite). I have had the computer for about a year running fine with 1 main admin account. Now when I need to create an account for another user I cannot create one, either admin or standard. When I create it, using either the control panel or command prompt, it creates the user picture, making the account visible on the control panel user accounts screen, and on logon screen. However, when trying to log into the new account I am greeted with the error "User profile service failed on logon. User profile cannot be loaded." The standard fix for this from various forums is to edit the registry key of the account. However, on going to regedit I see that no key even exists for the account. On further investigation I discover that no user files have been created either. I attempted a system restore, but discovered that all my past restore points were gone, and intruigingly, the computer had stopped createing 24 hour checkpoints. I cannot say for definite whether it was this issue or another one that caused system restore to mess up, as I don't check my system restore all that often. Either way, system restore is not an option. There have been mentions of a full Vista reinstall, though if at all possible I would like to avoid this.

Apr 30, 2010I am having problems with creating shortcuts on my desktop. when i select send to desktop (create shortcut) it comes up with the error. Windows could create the shortcut. Check to see if the disc is full.I have over 180 GB free space left. To get things to the desktop i can drag it into the tab section next to the start icon, and then drag onto desktop.But when i do this i am always required to give permission and it creates two desktop icons.i have been having problems with my catalyst control centre but i dont think they are related.

Mar 5, 2009When I install Vista, it wants to force me to create a local account, and it won't let me create one called Administrator, becuase the name is already used (thus the Administrator account exists). I don't want to create some dummy account just just to log in to join the domain. How do I get past the "Choose a user name and picture" screen and log in as Administrator so I can just install the network drivers and join my domain?

Nov 26, 2009I have several icons/files from my "User" folder showing up in the "Computer" folder (several in duplicate), PLUS numerous blank icons. This seems to have occurred after the Common Files folder became corrupted, after I somewhat riskily decided to power off while Vista was attempting to come out of Sleep mode - it had already taken about 3 mins and I was in a hurry - bad move, I know. That delay appears to have been due to an old version of Online Armor, and has now been fixed (by an update). Chkdsk scanned and (apparently) corrected some errors, and I also ran SFC which said it had corrected some errors but had also found some that it couldn't correct.

For some reason,my Program Files directory has been changed to the Photos directory type, so it changed from the details like file type, size, etc., to rating, photo size, etc.I cannot figure out how to change the directory back to a General file folder type. The toolbar shows things like Slide Show, etc.The sub-directories are all fine and appear as a General type. I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, without SP1.How do I change the folder type back to General?I can't figure out how with this single folder.

Jul 22, 2009I have C & D drives, I use D for mundane filesdownloads and portable apps. However, I have a few folders that's are different from any I've seen. I don't know how to explain it other than using a detailed example.
I have D:Folder1
I can rename Folder1 to whatever I want.
E.g it will appear as D:NewFolder
However the dir location of it still points to D:Folder1
I have also scanned the registry for D:Folder1 and D:NewFolder there are no references of it. I've reformatted the C: drive multiple times and reinstalled windows. So I know it's nothing to this specific windows installation (the folders have been like this for about a year) It's not really a problem, I love it because I can rename the folder without messing up links etc. At first I thought it might be a junction, however in cmd it still shows as <Dir> not <Junction> I also checked for hidden folders on the drive. I found nothing.

How it got there is a mystery to me since i didn't install it, but some program installed it,apparently,and didn't leave any way for me to uninstall it if i didn't want it. I always do a scan of my computer with avast,malwarebytes, superantispyware,and windows defender after finding the ezstickynotes folder for viruses, etc and it always comes up clean.

Apr 15, 2009The contents of My documents folder is displayed in my computer folder, some icons are double and a whole lot of other white icons "empy" files, see screenshot 1. Screenshot 2:
- Right clicking, double clicking on the white files does nothing
- Cannot select them and delete
- Opening a folder takes me to that folder (If i open "Pictures" it takes me to C:UsersNotandiPictures)
- Deleting a folder there deletes it from My Documents too
EDIT: These direcotries are also displayed in the SEND TO: menu, exactly the same as in my computer, but no the empty white files. See screenshot 2

Sep 30, 2009My 'C' drive is a 30GB partition, big mistake. It should have been more like 40 or 50GB partition but I cannot be bothered to format, re-partition and re-install everything. I have about 3GB of COD5 mods in my appdata folder. Can you create a 'virtual folder' in my appdata folder so when the game goes looking for the mods it will find them however the actual files will be stored on another HDD?

Now the Windows folder template has dissapeared and in place of it is the Contact template, when I open it i can add and remove contacts but inside the folder is all of the Windows sub folders. How do I get this back to normal please, I am afraid someone else will hop on my computer and carelesly delete my contacts folder which contains all those subfolders. I did try one result i saw about going into regedit and deleting those "Bag" files but they didnt work.

Mar 23, 2008In my previous email program of choice, Outlook Express, I used to beable to select the "to" function within the email message template and see a display of contacts that included the FOLDERS. In Windows Mail, the same action calls up ALL the contacts and NO folders. ALthough I can select multiple contacts from the Windows Contacts folder and through "action", install them in the "To" pane of an email message, I cannot jump from folder to folder to, for example, select contacts within another folder whom I wish to CC on the same message. The "Action" sequence always generates a new email template, posting any selected contact or contacts to the "To" pane.
I do not wish to create GROUPS and then go through the convoluted process of calling up the group in the "To" pane, and then deleting the ones I don't want. Needless to say, this feature was critical to my email flow and organization. Am I missing something? I have checked every forum and group I can. Others report the same issue without resolution. One forum individual said, "That's the way Windows Mail is".

Mar 3, 2009When i try and change the name of any folder, new or old, i get an error message that says "the file or folder does not exist" . i have tried every registry fix, download, settings change that i can find, and nothing helps. i have tried the fix on the microsoft site as well, but to no avail. if there is any ideas out there as to why the fixes that seem to be working for other people aren't working for me, they would be much appreciated. i am running vista business x 32 on a lenovo laptop. the operating system came preinstalled. i cannot recall any particular event that may have caused this...
