I am new conversion to Vista from XP and want to access my web mail (yahoo and netzero) thru Microsoft Mail....I am a novice...what am I doing wrong? Keep getting this message: The host 'smtp' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Subject '', Account: 'pop3', Server: 'smtp', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D
I use Outlook for my e-mails. Unfortunately, Outlook does not have access to news groups. When I go to Mail to get access to the news groups, Mail downloads all of the e-mails since I last used Mail. It may have been weeks since my last use of Mail so the list is rather long (hundreds). Is there any way to stop downloading all of these e-mails that I have already dealt with on Outlook? Why does Outlook not provide access to Newsgroups?
The host 'pop3' could not be found. Please verify that you have entered the server name correctly. Account: 'pop3', Server: 'pop3', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 11001, Error Number: 0x800CCC0D. Windows mail will not let me access or send my mail.
Im not really much of a computer wizzkid so pardon me if im not making much sense. I went into tools>account>default mail account>servers tab> My problem started then. Stupidly i changed my password thinking that i would be able to set it to open up and ask me for one when i tried to access my mail. My reaon for this was so others wouldnt be able to see my mail as i constantly forget to lock my laptop when im away from it.
Anyway i clicked apply and close. then i pressed send/recieve to checkif i had any new mail come in. A popup appeared asking for my username and password so i inouted the password that i had just changed. This is not working for me. And i do not know the old password to change back.
I have received a safe email from a know source. However I can't access the attachment due to the following message: Windows Mail removed access to this unsafe attachment..." How do I find this attachment, if it still exists in my computer. How do I tell WM to let certain senders send attachments?
Have just installed a wireless router which works ok with internet cxn. However unable to access via windows mail. Seems to point to old talktalk speed touch hardwire modem. How do l change to point to wireless router (also talktalk)
My Windows Mail was activated through my previous web host in Portugal, but I changed to a new web host on 1st June and I no longer have access to Windows Mail. I would like to still use it. I am using cvtelecom.cv in Cape Verde. I have an alternate mail system with the new host but would prefer to use Windows Mail. What info do I need and from whom? I wish to reactivate the account and email address I was using up.
Installed Vista Ultimate 64 bit over the weekend, dual booting with my XP Pro install, so far I am finding myself liking it more and more. I have set up newsgroups in windows mail, and email access. I really like some of the features of windows mail versus the older Outlook Express, especially the calendar feature, and the spellcheck included. I use Outlook 2002 ( from Office XP ) on my XP Pro install, mainly for the calendar feature, so was pleased to see this included in windows mail. Not going to try to install Office XP on my Vista, as I understand there would be issues with that. I think what I have with Windows Mail though, will serve me ok.
I see where another program, Windows Live Mail is available as well. I checked on the link I found, and really did not see a lot about it. What is the general consensus here, is the Windows Live Mail program much better than the included windows mail program? I don't really understand what the differences are here.
I use Windows mail for my e-mail and news group access. When I access my comcast e-mail (where all the info is correctly entered and stored in the account setup) I have no problem. When I try to access my newsgroup (where all my info is correctly entered and stored in the account setup) a Windows Security window pops up, displays my Vista PC administrator symbol and asks me for a user name and password to access the newsgroup account. I enter the correct info and Windows Security screen will not accept it. I had never ever been asked for a user name and password by a Windows Security Pop Up before and it doesn't ask me for that info on my e-mail.
Where I live, the only newsgroup which I can access is on Microsoft's server; no other newsgroups are offered thru any ISPs (because of POLITIKAL considerations). I know that Google offers browser-based newsgroup review and posting, but its interface is far from the convenience of a traditional newsreader such as Windows Mail, Outlook Express etc. Does anyone know of a way to get around this and access a server by a something like Windows Mail?
I try to access folders under my name (set up as administrator), most of the time I get access denied. It is driving me nuts. I want to change the start menu and get rid of a bunch of garbage but I can't enter the folder to do so. When I use the start menu program, it only has a few basic folders. This happens frequently, even when trying to view pictures or video in the folder. What do I need to change to remove this very annoying problem?
I have my laptop connecting to a server under AD control. My laptop is not joined to AD by design. I set up some files using 'Sync' to have them available to me offline. My AD password has since changed and I cannot connect to the server to have access to other files set up for offline access. When I attempt to remap the drive, I get an error stating I am already connected using the credentials provided. This is not true, since I cannot access the server. What do I need to do to fix this problem?
I think I might have a good one for you.. I am working on an Acer 5610z Notebook for a friend of mine. He was setting the parental controls and managed to control his account which had admin access. the user listing has the account listing as an admin but he only has standard user access. His was the "only" admin account.. While he was doing this he managed to deny access to the boot drive. The drive reads as "Access Denied". The machine boots up and a person can play games etc.. but network access is restricted.
i have recently tried to access Documents and Settings but am getting ACCESS DENIED for some reason yet i have done NOTHING to change my admin rights yet there seems to be an option for EVERYONE to access it but admin is not allowed to and it wont let me configure it that way. i have deleted EVERYONE from the properties and tried to revert to normal ADMIN user rights but it wont let me view docs and setts folder at all
Our Vista laptops (& my Xbox) access our basic Windows Home Server system through a Netgear router. It's all fine, but I want to (easily & quickly!) restrict & control when some laptops can access the internet while allowing free access to the server. (For instance, so children's internet access can be monitored but they can always get to photos & backups, etc. on the server.)
Search tells me the file exists but will not tell me where. Access denied. "To access, click Security Tab" Security Tab shows permission granted for Administrator and [User]. I am both User and Admin.
I ran Spybot S&D, got rid of any viruses it got and Mallware Bytes, again, removed everything. Even ran McAfee and got rid of whatever. But each time i run the scan on Spybot S&D it finds site that redirect me. I press fix selected items but it responds by saying "cannot access hosts file. Access is denied" I tried to untick the "protect hosts file form hijackers" in IE tweaks but keeps getting checked. On top of that the Hosts file is missing.
My main mail client is my office XP system, I also receive mail in home. So I select the 'Leave mail on Server' in my home XP system and it work fine. But after I upgrade my home PC to Vista system (I export my mail account for XP outlook express then inport it to my Vista system.) then it have problem - when the mail that I received in home Vista system Windows Mail then i no longer can receive in office mail client. Does anyone know is it the bug of Vista Windows Mail?
Every time I open Windows Mail it will erase all my SBC yahoo mail. I go to Yahoo Mail and all my e mails are gone. How can I change my settings so it doens't do that anymore?

Just upgraded the computer by adding new motherboard, RAM, CPU and installing Vista 64 Home Basic. I cannot access my 2nd HDD in windows but windows can see it in the Device Manager and I can see it in my motherboards BIOS section also. Can anyone suggest a fix? I don't want to format the drive because I need all the info on there, that's why I had the second drive for storage.
I've developed an application that runs great on 32-bit Vista. But a user reports that when launched on 64-bit Vista it exits immediately with no error message. I don't have access to a 64-bit Vista machine to test with. Any ideas of likely places to look? I make many calls to the Windows SDK via [DllImport(user32.dll)].
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Subject 'drivers license', Account: 'rlhenslee@yahoo.com', Server: 'plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
i tried changing the outgoing mail port from 465 to 25 cause i think i saw in another persons post they were told to use that one, but i get the error message:
I have 2 networked hard discs acting as fileservers in my local intranet. I have no access issues on any of my machines except the office PC running Vista (Home Premium 64)... on the Vista machine, even though I've added the IP addresses of the networked drives to my trusted zone, they show up in Windows Explorer as being in the "Internet Zone" and I can't seem to change that.
So I turned on my PC this morning ( vista 64 bit ) and I could not connect to the internet. I hover my mouse over the little internet connection icon in the botom right hand corner and it says local access only. Has anyone else had this roblem? Is more information required (more than likely) jsut let me know. This is jsut another reason to have vista.
I just installed Norton Internet Security 2008. Now I can get into my favorite URL but when I try to go back to the last page it locks up every time. How can I get my favorite website with full functioning back again?
I recently set up WM on my desktop using my AOL email account information. I can view email in AOL until WM refreshes and the emails are visible there as well. However, if I read the AOL mail first, it doesn't make it to WM. I also set up my laptop with WM using the same AOL account but I can't seem to see my emails there, unless of course, I intercept them just as they come in. Is there a way to see ALL my emails on WM on either computer? I don't care if I can't use AOL anymore but do want the ability to see my emails regardless of which computer I'm using. Am I supposed to save to a server? If so, which is considered the server?
I read the "answer" post about UAC, and was wondering why when I set something to "run as administrator" in it's Properties it does not do so on an Administrator account? On the Guest account I have set up the program runs without asking for any kind of verification or admin password, but it always asks for such when run from the administrator account. What has gone wrong here? Is there some way to make a program "trusted" (like all Microsoft products) so that it doesn't ever need verification for all accounts on a system?
I'm about to get a new computer and I was wondering if there is much advantage to getting Vista 64bit over Vista32/or XP32 ? I would like to run extra RAM in my system and I know 32bit OS wont access 4gig or more but other than addressing more RAM what esle is a plus? I'm a litle worried as all the people in the computer shops tell me I have to stay clear of 64bit OS as there is too many problems and I can't use any of my current software/games. Can you put a little faith into my thoughts/choices. Also is Ultimate really worth more money than Home premium for the average person?
