View 9 Replies View RelatedI have Vista on Inspiron 530 desktop. The PC is OK for about an hour then internet gets very slow, finally freezing. When I press ctrl alt del I get message "Logon process has failed to create the security options dialog" and below this "Failure - security options" . The only way out of this is to turn off the electricity to the pc.
Even if I don't get this error, I am seldom able to "shut down" the computer. I sometimes get the "logging off" message which changes to "shutting down" but even after waiting ages, it does not usually shut down so I just have to switch it off.
having no success with vista at all. It randomly freezes after a few minutes, even when just sitting on the desktop. Keyboard and mouse do not work when this happens. It has done this everytime i have turned it on. Have all up to date drivers and latest bios. The sound was working fine, but turned it on yesterday morning and now it has stopped working. When playing music, the equaliser when you left click on the sound icon in the tray shows activity, but nothing out of the speaker. Have tried reinstalling the driver but had no success, and also using different speakers.

I have run chkdsk soooo many times, I have also downloaded a registry repair program, defrag, dsk cleanup, and everything imaginable. I want to avoid defrag because I don't want to loose my files and programs.
Vista Business, windows mail. Problem receiving. Receive hangs on one of the messages. I now have a number of messages received mulitple times, Windows mail then gets to 'receiving message 7 of (currently) 21, and hangs. Sometime I get an error saying that the server has timed out. (No response for a minute) Was Perfectly OK last week. (and for a few weeks since getting my new laptop with Norton!)
it downloads the first 6 messages, gets stuck and times out on the 7th, with or without Norton. And of course, since it gets stuck, doesn't clear from the server, which is why the first six keep coming down. I think I am now on SP1, have uninstalled Norton to no effect. I think the problem mail has an Access attachment about 2 meg in size. Anyway, was OK last week, not now. receive is from oneandone, send from either oneandone or eclipse makes no difference.
I like to go back from time to time and see when I sent an email When I click on sent mail folder, windows mail goes off. Cannot look at sent mail, it quits working and reloads whats up?

It's not even listed under my user name, as if it was deleted. Sorry if this is a duplicate. I am a new user on this forum. I am having problems with being able to send email with Windows Mail on a Toshiba laptop. It is running Vista Home Premium 64-bit OS. My ISP is Centurytel and the computer is having the problems on a university network (daughter's computer). University & Centurytel IT personell say all the settings are correct and it should be working fine. Mail can be received, just not sent, with or without anti-virus (Trend Micro) & spyware (SpySweeper) turned on. Here is the message I get when attempting to send mail:

Like lots of other people last week I suddenly couldn't send mail using Windows Mail and Vista Premium. Can delete unsent messages from Outbox ok and have today downloaded and run Norton Uninstall. At about the time email out stopped a Norton panel aaying I was about to load updates appeared which I cancelled immediately, (I originally used Norton 4 months ago but uninstalled and went to AVG), Norton appeared in Programs and would not uninstall but a System Recovery to the day before removed it from program list.

when I open Windows mail - to make matters worse I use a French version! When I open Windows mail, the column on the left which normally shows all mail box files doesn't appear. If I click on "dossiers local" which is the main list of all files in Windows mail, then the full list of files comes up on the right hand side. I then have to click one by one on each title for it to be transferred to the left hand side (sorry for the non-computer language). I have looked at the French forum but can't find a solution. I amalso trying to find out what OS I'm using (64 bit or 32 bit) so I can download an update which might fix the problem Can anyone assist. Plus which, certain emails have "This message can't be sent" "a problem has been encountered". I'm completely stuck on what to do!

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need Windows Mail, not Windows Live Mail. I currently have the program running on my Vista O/S, but want to install it on another Vista PC. Strangely, whenever I Google (or Bing) "Windows Mail Download" I get steered to Windows Live Mail. I really want the 2006 vintage "old" Windows Mail Program. The "About" section of the installed program shows a 2006 copyright and tells me I have version 6.0xxx installed. That's what I need - another download of the same product.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI want to move my parent's mails (Windows Mail) and contacts from my own computer (Ultimate x64) to my parent's brand new laptop (Home x32). I suppose the contacts won't be an issue and I'll be able to drag and drop them but I have a problem with the mails. I first tried the windows tool: I made the save file on an external drive but when I tried to import it to the laptop, it didn't worked. It said that x64 to x32 isn't possible. Then, I tried the 'Export' feature of WM but it crashes in the middle of the operation and don't tell what the problem is of course. With OE, I would have dragged and dropped the db directory on the laptop and managed to make it work, but the WM directory seems a bit more complicated. So, does anyone have an idea to get rid of the problem ? I have though that maybe exporting to Outlook (with the WM feature) and then import that on my parent's laptop (who also has Office installed) but I'm not sure it would work either and I'd prefer then to use the simple WM over the big Outlook.

My old laptop running Outlook is sitting on my desk now so I can work, but I need to get at the msgs in WM in my new computer. Why is it doing this and what do I need to do to have the dependibility I had w/ Outlook Express. And please don't tell me that I have to disable mail scanning functions. What M$ needs to do is enable it's software!
When sending an e-mail in WM I begin entering an e-mail address in the To box that should autocomplete. I've got autocomplete set. But it does not. I imported my address book from Outlook Express. I've Google'd around for help with this and see lots of complaints but no mention of fixes. I realize this problem much have been posted to this group many times. But it is not showing up in any of the postings that I can currently view and I am new to the group.Hope someone knows of a fix.

I've been seeing a consistent problem with Windows Mail lately, the version for 64-bit Vista Home Premium SP2. Whenever I try to enter a storage folder with 126891 unread news messages (mainly to divide up the contents of the folder), Windows Mail stops working correctly and offers me a chance to send in more information along with the bug report. When I enter a different folder with 73181 unread news messages, things are a little slow but otherwise normal. Some of the other problems I've seen on the same machine suggest that a collection of programs compiled to run in 32-bit mode cannot make full use of the 8 GB of memory this machine has; only the lowest 4 GB, all that 32-bit addresses can address directly. Is it true that Vista lacks the memory mapping needed to run 32-bit mode programs at addresses above the lowest 4 GB? Also, is is true that the version of Windows Mail that comes with 64-bit Vista has at least some part that must run in 32-bit mode?
When I have a set of BOINC programs running, with permission to use up to 4 GB of memory, it could easily come close to exhausting the lowest 4 GB of memory, since most of the BOINC workunit programs were compiled to run in 32-bit mode. However, neither BOINC nor Vista seems to offer any memory restrictions specific to the use of the lowest 4 GB. I've seen enough problems reported in the microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop newsgroup with the Windows Live Mail user interface that I'm hesitant to consider switching to that program. In particular, some of the problem reports refer to functions controlled with buttons labelled only with symbols, not with words. Since I'm rather slow at learning the meaning of symbols not labelled with words, I want to avoid using any programs that use such symbols. Does the WLM program have the option of making labels of the symbols appear in words, perhaps only when the cursor is close enough to the symbol? Or, is there any other workaround for splitting up such a large folder of unread news messages?
My windows e-mail hasn't been working.Still want to keep the same one I HAVE ON FACEBOOK.

View 9 Replies View RelatedHas anyone had problems with Windows Mail not working at all? It opens up and shows all my new and saved emails. After awhile I can no longer delete any emails. After yet another while, the entire thing goes blank and I can no longer see any of the emails much less send or receive any. I have contacted Dell three times and had them do remote troubleshooting, but it is still not functioning.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI was just wondering if anyone else had experienced these annoying freezes that occur randomly in Vista 64. It can happen while I'm playing a game, it can happen while I'm browsing firefox etc. I freeze up about 4 times a day and the only solution is a hard restart.
It is beyond me, I have the video card drivers up to snuff, all updates are installed, virus scanners/spyware scanners, video card isn't overheating, CPU idles at 33 loads at 42. I'll describe the problem a little better other than to just say it's freezing. When the freeze occurs, the entire screen stops moving, I cannot move my mouse, all sound stops working, and if there was a sound playing, it will get mutilated into a nasty buzz.
