Windows 7 X64does Not Update Clock

Oct 26, 2009

Yesterday the UK time changed by one hour (back) to standard time. The
clock on my machine (Win 7 x64 did not automatically update, as in previous
versions. Anyone else having this glitch? The curious thing is a notice at
the clock acknowledges the change of time and advises the clock was
corrected, which it wasn't .

Clock Syncronization With Internet - Change Update Frequency?

Apr 1, 2009

In the information on computer clock syncronization with an internet time server I read: "Your clock is typically updated once a week". Is there any way I can change this interval? My computer clock isn't too accurate so I should like to syncronize say at least daily instead of once a week.

When Try To Install That Update For Windows Update Get Error Code 80070643.

Apr 11, 2008

That is the message I get from the icon in my Vista tray. When I try to manually check for Windows Updates I get the message that I need to "first install an update for Windows Update". When I try to install that update for Windows Update, I get error code 80070643. There is a lot written about Windows Update error 80070643 having specifically to do with restarting the Office Source Engine for Microsoft Office 2003. HOWEVER, I do not have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system and this is not my issue! I am quite fearful at this point that I am vulnerable to all sorts of attacks considering that I haven't updated Vista for about 6 months now. This is not good.

Configure Windows Update To Update All Microsoft Apps On Your PC

May 6, 2007

Microsoft Update was first released a few years ago for Windows XP and Server 2003 as a great way to update all of your Microsoft software installed on your PC. Not only would it update Windows, but it would also update Microsoft Office.  Are you a Microsoft Outlook user? If so, Microsoft Update would even download updated junk mail signatures when they are released.

In Windows Vista the new Windows Update application is no longer web-based. Microsoft has built-in the old Microsoft Update functionality into the new interface but you need to turn it on before you can use it.  Follow these steps to turn on updates for other Microsoft applications: ...

Windows Update Fail To Update

Mar 21, 2009

The last time an update was installed was in January..since the next time i was offered an update, Windows Update or any of the programs that use windows update fail to update. Also i can't download the updates manually..standalone msu installers also dont work.. windows defender, IE8 installations also fail to update. And unfortunately i have deleted the recent system restore checkpoints before i knew about this problem. Windows Update gives error 80070002, i have tried the "solution" to delete temp update files, and all other solutions i could find on the internet. Windows defender gives the same error.

The updates can be downloaded from windows update, but cannot be download (not even manually in .msu package) I also lost many shortcut files of MS Office (the icon turned white and they lost their target). Some shortcuts of 3rd party programs are also lost (which were supposed to be in c:windowsinstallerlabla I have Windows Vista Home Basic with SP1 (SP1 came with the ssytem when i bought it). This is very weird. I have no other choice than to reformat drive and use recovery disk.

System Clock Off By 1 Hr.

Sep 17, 2009

My system clock keeps changing, off by 1 hour, if it's really 6:03 it says it's 5:03. I'll change it and then the next time I reboot it may have it correct or it may have it wrong. But eventually I notice that it's back to being off by 1 hour. I am running XP Home edition with all the latest updates.

Clock Application Does Not Work

Jun 10, 2008

I was running Atomic Alarm Clock on x86, but that does not seem to work, and I see by a thread in these forums, that Chameleon clock has issues too. So, can anyone suggest a customizable clock, one that can prompt the time servers much more frequently than the built in clock, that does run properly on x64?

CPU Clock Monitering Software

Aug 9, 2009

I just got a new computer. HP G60-235DX. I'm going out for vacation and I want to massivly underclock the 2Ghx Core Dual Processor so it can last longer. Vista's current power save mode increases the battery life but not as long as I want.

I was downloading CPU clock Monitering software and I noticed that Vista's built in power options actually changes the clock speeds but I can't find an option to let me manually choose the clock speed. For High Performance, it is 2 Ghz (as expected). For Balanced, it is 1.6 Ghz, and Power saver, it is 1.2 Ghz. I want to under clock my notebook to 600 or 700 mhz. What should I do. My bios, does not support over/under clocking.

Does anyone know how to use Vista's built-in power options to configure the clock speed? If not then, can you tell me some programs that can with a little explaination on how to use them? I've used a few and they are confusing.

Chameleon Clock 5.1 Will Not Apear

May 19, 2008

I am quite a big fan of Chameleon Clock. I believe it's a brilliant enhancement to the normal clock that comes with Windows. I have been using it with XP Pro (x86) all the time. However, since moving to Vista Ultimate (x64), Chameleon Clock no longer appears on the taskbar. It's running fine, it still does all the functions (like alarms, reminders, clock chimes, etc), and I can still access it by hovering over the normal clock. But it just does not show the clock itself. I've just got the normal Vista one, which really quite defeats the point of having Chameleon Clock in the first place.

I've put up with it because the most important functions still work, but I do not understand why it will not appear. I have done nothing different to XP, and I have tried loads of different settings. The website for Chameleon Clock says it's Vista compatible, yet it does not seem to work for me. Maybe perhaps it's because of 64-bit? I do not know... Has anyone else got Chameleon Clock to show on Vista Ultimate x64?

However, for reasons of saving resources, I have set Vista to boot with Selective Startup only, so this may be the reason they have disappered. If so, which Startup item (or Services item) should I tick to make them reappear.

Globe-like Icon Appears On Clock Bar, And The Bar Freezes

Mar 10, 2009

Every time I log in, after a few seconds, this globe-like icon appears on my clock bar, and the bar freezes, including the menu. I can´t open anything, I can´t even change between opened software. The only thing that works is whatever program I´m running, which I can continue to use with no problem, but once I´m done, I have to signout the user to be able to turn it off. I press ctrl+alt+del, and the program administrator opens, but the computer doesn´t let me access it, since it freezes. I booted in safe mode and disabled everything on start up, still happens.

The BIOS clock has no problems, displays the correct date and time every time, but it is now beginning to bug the heck out of me.

Ubuntu: Corrupts The Real-time Clock

Oct 3, 2009

A word of warning if you're like me, own a Dell, Lenovo/IBM or HP notebook. Do not install any version, variation or anything related to Ubuntu on it. It WILL fulk your machine good and proper. The as-of-yet unfixed bug 43745343802 in Linux kernel for Ubuntu which corrupts the real-time clock, and causes your machine to boot simply with the message "Time-of-day clock stopped", leaving you unable to get into the BIOS, boot from external sources, or do anything even remotely useful with
your notebook - effectively bricking it. The fix? You can rip open your notebook and extract the CMOS battery, or call manufacturer to see how good warranty is. The awesome thing about that bug? It's in Dapper, as you can see.. but I just got it in.

Edgy, and according to the comments, it was there back in Breezy as well. The next cu**nt who even breathes Ubuntu in my presence will receive a punch in the face. Jesus fluking Christ. In my entire 23 year history of fluking with PC operating systems, not ONCE have I ever come across one capable of bricking your hardware. I'd like to support the Ubuntu developers, because from their mission statements and other crap, it sounds like they're trying to do the right thing - but folk me, a bug this serious possibly spans three releases and still isn't fixed? One that, to date, doesn't appear in other Linux distro's? Get your fluking act together!

If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

If problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode................
