I getting a new desktop with Windows 7 and 64-Bit. I am trying to find out if Internet Explorer is a part of Windows 7 (64-Bit) or would I have to download and install IE 8? If this is not right place for this question. I couldn't find board for Win 7.
View 7 RepliesSince I have moved from Outlook Express to VISTA Windows Mail whenever I try to past from the clipboard into an e-mail I am composing it automatically changes any foriegn language fonts characters to all English characters. I would then have to highlight each foriegn language phrase and then select the language font from the font menu. I should not have to do this if Window Mail would retain the original fonts from the clipboard or other document program I am pasting from. How can I
resolve this problem.
Just got a new pc with Vista x64. I have a Phonic Helix Board 12 USB mixer/audio interface which appears to have installed fine, but I am getting no sound from the pc through it. I have set it as the default audio device. On board sound is fine.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was enjoying a glass of wine the other evening, and I spilled a full glass of wine onto the keyboard of my Toshiba Satellite which had Windows XP. I killed it DEAD. Anyway, I went to town (I live in the bush) and bought a new Toshiba Satellite laptop. When I got home I found it had Vista in it. No matter how much I tried, I cannot get it to perform like any of the other Toshiba sattelites that I have had over the years with XP in them. (this is my own personal observation). "happy days" I found XP software on Ebay for only au$60 so I bought it. I am not really computer "savvy" but I struggle through. I cannot get the computer to download the new XP program, it keeps telling me that I cannot download something old onto something new.

I can't figure out how to turn the computer off using only the key board. In previous windows, it was Windows/U/S , or maybe Windows/U/U. With Vista, I seem to have to use the mouse, or the infernal laptop touch pad, to get to, then click on, an arrow which displays a list, which requires the use of the touch pad again, because the list has no accelerator keys. 4 steps, each more complicated than one letter, where one keyboard letter used to do.
Also, I don't have them side by side, but it seems that when playing Solitaire, it took longer to turn over each set of 3 cards, than it did for me on WinXP or Win98, and I'm sure the Vista CPU is faster than the others I've used. (It's a Toshiba Satellite laptop, which came with Vista installed, but I don't know the speed.
Is there a way to get new post just from a particular forum? Say, if I wanted to only see the new posts in Tutorials or Software or whatever?
View 8 Replies View RelatedYesterday I believe an update came when I stepped away from my pc for about 45 minutes. I had been able to use the pc up until then when the mouse and key board froze. I attempted to reboot and could not. 95 errors posted in the event log. Most these where WMI (source) and the event ID was 24. I cannot find a solution, and I am not that well knowing a lot. I can probably make the corrections if I have a solution given to me.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI an using Vista Ultimate SP1 on a Gigabyte mobo with a Q6600 CPU but cannot use more than two slots on the memory board. I run nicely if I populate two of the slots with 1GB matched memory but the minute I populate the other two slots with the same brand of matched 1GB memory boards, I get a BSOD. Is this a Vista problem? If I use either of the mobo slots to test the memory (provided its not more than 1 GB each) they both work. The mobo is GA-EP35C-DS3R.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI recently installed a beta version (build 7000) of this O.S. The installation went very well and on a previously formatted disc, completed in 20 minutes. All of my Vista software was installed without problems. I realise that this a beta version, and as such may be subject to quite a number of improvements and bug fixes during the next few months. My initial impression though is that this a good system, but not very much better than Vista. There is an on board defragmentation tool, which operates automatically, in addition to spectacular new desktops, but overall it looks more like the result of a Vista service pack. Being quite satisfied with my currentVista ultimate, I am at this stage definitely not prepared to spend money again on this "new" operating system as soon as it appears in the shops.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI "upgraded" from 32bit XP, to Vista x64. Now, my system is plagued with a mainboard that auto-throttles when its chipset hits 45C temps. As a result, until I can figure out how to get a little more cooling into it, I've temporarily underclocked my CPU to 2600mhz(x2) from 3000mhz. Or, at least, I -was- doing that, before Vista SP1.
Now, no matter what I set, or how I set it, it seems to get reset to 100% If I use Vista's own power scheme settings, I can make it run at 85% max 5% min, and it saves, goes a while, maybe 10 to 15 minutes, then I notice the system is auto-throttling again. I check, and sure enough, it's set back to 100% max, 100%min.
If I use AMD OverDrive, the same thing happens.. I set to 13x multiplier, and drop the voltage a bit. 10-15 minutes later, It shows my "Desired Settings" still, and they have to be re-applied.

As a result of manufacturing defects and the inevitable fallout from it, it seems that Nvidia has gone from enjoying a few beautiful years on top to actually losing money recently. In particular, Nvidia saw a decrease in revenue for the second quarter of this year, resulting in a financial loss for the company.
In total, they lost over $120 million, and recent cuts in sales haven’t helped them out either. They outright admitted that they underestimated AMD, but nobody can really blame them for that. Yesterday, it was speculated that there were manufacturing defects in the G92 and G94 chipsets, on top of the already known bad parts in the G84 and G86 series. Nvidia may have tried to avoid blame here and there, but ultimately it is coming down on them and they have been stuck with warranty replacements galore. Even if the newer chipsets are fine, it doesn't do anything to remedy the mass amounts of defective ones already sold..........
There are discussions on this general subject but no aparent resolution. About two months ago I was sometimes prevented from opening photo attachments on some emails received from the same party and sometimes could open them. By this I mean, I would click on the paperclip where a list of photos would appear and I'd click on on photo and I'd get a message saying: "Windows cannot find file name (photo captions used by sender).jpg. Make sure your typed the name correctly and then try again." Well, of course I didn't type the file name; the sender did. I could click on the save attachments, and once saved to a folder I could open them from the folder. I forwarded the mail to others, and they report no problems in viewing the photos. I can also view the photos in the email itself, but it would be necessary to scan up and down and from left to right to view the whold photo and the caption would not appear.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIn the process of trying to get current (I am within 2000 messages) with the messages in this group, I have seen many requests for help with problems about attachments. I am interested in helping diagnose the problem if I can.
I don't need help with a workaround; I don't mind saving attachments, which works for me. I am a developer with Visual Studio 2008 and such and I will attempt to diagnose the problem if possible.
I had assumed I don't have the problem but I am getting the following when I try to view a jpeg attachment:
"Windows cannot find 'Photo0192.jpg'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."
Is that the same problem most people are getting when they have a problem
with attachments?
The only thing I am aware of that might have caused a problem is that I installed IE 8 when it was still very buggy, and then I uninstalled it.
Later at some point Windows Update re-installed IE 8 (I assume that happened when IE 8 was released). I assume that since most people encountering the problem are non-technical, they would not have installed a beta version of IE 8.
Could the problem be a security problem? If so, could it might help to audit security failures? I am not sure of the details of doing that, but I am interested in trying things such as that if it helps diagnose the problem for Microsoft to know what to fix.
I can't find any newsgroup dealing with Windows 7, are there any? I need to ask a couple of questions in regards XP Mode, if there aren't any newsgroups for Windows 7 what would be the next best place

I've tried to do some of the things people suggested with previous posts like mine but, I it doesn't seem to work. Wireless Network Connection is disabled, I try to enable it and it doesn't work p.s. I can access the internet when I connect the DSL modem directly to my laptop.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am running windows Vista 32 bit, and everything was working great until I uninstalled Norton 360. Following uninstall, my DVD drive no longer worked (I corrected that issue) and my network no longer works. I am wired into a router, and also wireless on the same computer. Bother worked well, until the uninstall. Now, I can't even see the router, even though I'm wired to it. The wireless connection successfully connects to the router (or so it seems), but also cannot see the router.I suspect there is a registry error (or key corruption), but cannot find which keys are corrupt.Has anyone ever had this problem? Again, I corrected the DVD issue, but cannot identify the network issue.

Last night after downloading and install NOD32 I started getting Bluescreen crashes everytime I used the internet. This happened about 8 times before I finally put it in safe mode and ran SystemRestore. I reverted back to one day prior and it resovled the bluescreen crashes; however, now I cannot open the control panel without Windows explorer failing to respond and anything I seem to save instantly disappears off of my desktop and cannot be found on the harddrive with an advanced search. Finally, there is some remnant of some program I installed last night still present called "Sprt Client Interface" running in the process area in the lower right. When I try to open it, it says windows cannot find bconte.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and try again." I cannot all the specs but I have an Intel T2250 with 1G of RAM.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a dial-up networking connection already set up on my Windows Vista Home Basic machine, which is equipped with Service Pack 1. Yet, when I log on as one particular user, and then click Start > Connect To, my dial-up networking connection does not appear, and the "Connect to a network" window says "Windows can't find any networks" when I am not connected, or "Windows cannot find any additional networks" when I am connected.
At the same time, I find on my desktop a folder named "_hiddenPbk", which, when I open it, contains a file called "rasphone.pbk". I have just found out that this folder, as well as the file associated with it, belongs in the folder called "%APPDATA%MicrosoftNetworkConnectionsPbk". I copied the "_hiddenPbk" folder from my desktop to this folder and restarted my machine, but the effort turns out to be for naught: My dial-up connection still does not appear in the "Connect to a network" window. This quandary is user-wide only, meaning that this predicament only happens when I log on to my Windows Vista machine as user "X" but not as user "Y" or "Z" or any other user.
