Why Are New Laptops Having 64 Bit WINDOWS7 Installed?
Oct 26, 2009I prefer 32 bit Windows - 64 bit requires special versions of some programs? Is there some benefit for 64 bit Home Premium over 32 bit?

ReadyBoost And Laptops Dock
Mar 23, 2008I have a Dell Latitude D830 with 4Gb RAM. I also have a 4Gb USB drive that is ReadyBoost capatible. Most of the week, the laptop is 'docked' into a Dell docking station, and the USB drive is attached to a USB port on the back of this docking station. Once in a while, the laptop is removed from the docking station, maybe for an hour or two, and then inserted again. When this happens, Vista sometime does not seem to see the USB drive and the ReadyBoost file... I have right mouse click the drive, select ReadyBoost and tell it use this device for ReadyBoost.....
Other then clicking "Undock", is there anything I need to do to prepare Vista to undock from the docking station, and to see the USB drive after docking?

Jun 12, 2009Why are useless "applications", business people could give two flying craps about, like MOVIE MAKER - I spent half hour to delete because it required me to gain Ownership and assign Full Control to that folder before the pest could be deleted (100MB+ freed!), why are they included.
But useful applications ar enot, nowadays?
The VolumeControl is abhorrent comparing to WinXP.
But now I hear Win7 won't include Email Client?
I have to download separately?
Is that due to antitrust/antimonopoly regulations?
If so, can Microsoft please to ALSO not include goddamn MovieMaker, PhotoGallery, etc. and leave it for download for people who care about crapware?
Can Microsoft NOT include other dubious applications, if Email is removed.
Or at least do NOT crate pest foledrs which can't be deleted w;/o resorting to DOS tools or elaborate file killing techniques as I was forced to w/WinPhotoGallery?
What is more important - an Email Client or yet another image/video player or another shiny useless object (useless for busieness & educated people who work, not play on computers)?

I guess I will be forced to use Windows Live rather than OE with Windows7 My needs are simple, and OE has done everything I require, but I understand that Windows Live is a pretty basic one also. Is it possible to transfer all my saved OE Folder files like SENT, etc. from OE to Windows Live (easily) ?
Read a brief mention that if you go to OE/ TOOLS/ OPTIONS/ MAINT. there is "some" way of creating a folder with all the stuff you want to transfer, and then loading it into WindowsLive. A bit on in years now, so please bear with me. Is this the (best and easiest) way to do it, or?
Windows7 Didn't Play Well With The Chipset
Nov 11, 2009I'm assembling the components to upgrade this machine (it is a 939 mobo with a nForce3 chip and early releases of Windows7 didn't play well with the chipset). I'm not a gamer, I don't need the latest and greatest cpu and I don't plan on any overclocking. The most demanding things I do are video recoding of HDTV, some audio recoding and some simple image editing.
I already have a mobo that takes AM3 processors and DDR2 memory. I'm considering a Athlon II x4 or a Phenom II x3 both running at 2.6. They are about the same price and the only difference, other than the cores, is the L3 cache. The Athlons don't have any and the Phenoms have 6 MB. What are your opinions? Will I see any difference in the performance in my real world situations?

Oct 22, 2009I'm trying to do the in-place upgrade - Vista Home Premium to W7 Home Premium. It says: "The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. There is not enough free space to store temporary Windows installation files. Try using Disk Cleanup, uninstall old programs, or move files to an external location such as a CD, DVD, or external hard drive." I just installed a new 320 gb hard drive and restored Vista on it. It works perfectly. 220 drive C: and about 80 gb D: so there should be no problem I checked each drive's properties to make sure each had much unused space - I came from an 80 gb disk.

Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.

According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. Jun 29, 2009let me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........
