Recently I have noticed that what ever application I am in, often it stops responding for a few seconds and then it starts responding. I am operating Vista Home Premium 32bt. and have Norton Internet Security 2010 running. No other programs running at startup except sidebar.
I appreciate help on this matter. I have run full NIS scan, full Malwarebytes, and full tune up in system mechanics 9.

I installed software for Canon Scanner that has caused me problems. I found out that Canon now has updated software to deal with Vista problems. However I have to delete the old software, but cannot. I get the following message: The System administrator hs set policies to prevent this installation. What gives? I am the administrator, and the ONLY person using this PC?

I want to know what keeps my hard drive busy when I am not using my computer. I turn on my vista ultimate computer. I do not do anything but sometimes I see that the light indicating that the hd is busy is blinking, maybe for an hour...Now it can be that defragment is on, indexing is on, virus scan is on....Nope, I shut down all these services and still something keeps my hd busy. I want to know this. I want to know what is acessing my hard drive. I cannot check infer anything from the task manager memory use list. Nothing really is keeping my cpu busy there, but something is keepng my hard drive busy. Is there a program that can tell me what is accessing my hard drive? This blinking light will make me go insane.

I installed a program but it does not apear in the programs and features list while it is working well. I decided to uninstall it but I could not do this because it does not apear in the programs and features list so I tried to delete its folder from C:Program Files but I could not so then I turned my computer in the safe mode and I could delete its folder. Then the problems start to begin: the security center can not see the installed antivirus, when I try to uninstall or install the programs I get: (access is denied contact the administrator) although I am an administrator. Even i could not rename my folders in the C hard disk. also when I try to open system restore I get (There was unexpected error: class not registerd 0x80040154). I do not know if it is virus or a mistake I made by deleting that program.

I tried to delete a template in "My Templates) in "Word". It would not go the the recyle bin as a file was opened in another program. I discovered that when I went Word I get Document 1. I then click the Office Button. Click on close and get a faded screen. Click the Office Button again and the only options are:
Open
Open from Office Live
Save to Office Live
Is this the open file? If it is how do I delete it?

I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced these annoying freezes that occur randomly in Vista 64. It can happen while I'm playing a game, it can happen while I'm browsing firefox etc. I freeze up about 4 times a day and the only solution is a hard restart.
It is beyond me, I have the video card drivers up to snuff, all updates are installed, virus scanners/spyware scanners, video card isn't overheating, CPU idles at 33 loads at 42. I'll describe the problem a little better other than to just say it's freezing. When the freeze occurs, the entire screen stops moving, I cannot move my mouse, all sound stops working, and if there was a sound playing, it will get mutilated into a nasty buzz.

I have noticed that my hard drive is busy doing something even while the computer is idle. I can't figure out what it is. I have turned off indexing, Windows Defender, and my system doesn't come with shadowing. (Windows Home Premium). I don't have any visible background programs running, (no antivirus programs, etc). The system restore is scheduled to happen daily, not all day long every day. Screen savers are turned off. Powering down is turned off. The computer is not connected to the internet. So what the heck is the computer doing when it's left idle? Why is it still grinding away computing something?

I am not sure what is going on, but I think it may be an over-aggressive registry cleaner. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 and every time I get an open file dialog box, and try to open the menu at the top of it to select the way I want to view the folder contents (List, Details, Thumbnails, etc.) the button stays depressed and after a few seconds I get the Server Busy... Switch To | Retry | Cancel... dialog. The Cancel button is always grayed out. The list always comes up eventually, after several hundred Retry clicks... If I do not move the mouse I do not get the Server Busy dialog, but it takes 30-45 seconds for the list to appear. After that everything works fine. I am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit on an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ @ 2.6GHz with 3GB RAM and an nVidia GTS8600.

I guess it's kind of a poll/question. Is there any value in leaving my Vista machine always on, or is system stability better if I restart it every day? I've been shutting the computer down every night before I go to sleep for energy conservation as opposed to Vista health, just curious if it really matters. I have no idea if I've actually saved any money, but I figure even if I only save 25 cents a night that's almost a hundred bucks at the end of the year (550W PSU).

I have installed a video card awhile back and have a few hypothetical questions. If I had a problem that should pop up that I couldn't fix and need to reformat can I leave my video card and a proceed as normal. Would I have to remove card because it is not part of original system configuration and reinstall after the reformat. I don't know why I didn't ask about this when I got my video card but it never came to my attention. Now that it has I am kind of stumped and worried. Any body gone through something similar and what where the results.

I am trying to install an electronic edition of Britannica. Previously, it took about 10 minutes, using 2 CDs on XP Pro.
I did a major upgrade for but did not replace my DVD, CD, Power Supply, or Floppy.
My board is an Intel DG33FB
My chip is an Intel Core 2 Dual (e4500)
I have 2 GB DDR 667 and one mal-partitioned SATA drive. The Vista portion has 167 GB.
Today, it took aver three hours to copy merely 329 MB of data onto the other partition using my HP 940i DVD writer. the program was not even half done, BTW I got several gray-out screens in the process. I could not do any other work because the darn machine hung.

The information you've sent me, it looks like your network stack is being reset approximately every two hours. As the stack is rebuilt, various pieces of information about network become available over time. As each piece becomes available, NIS it treats the new result as a new network, that's why you get a few network discovery events over a relatively short period of time. It also explains why you see occasionally slow network traffic; the network stack is being rebuilt. What I don't understand is why the network stack is being reset. This doesn't seem like anything malicious but may be due to faulty hardware on your machine or, more likely, some scheduled program or task running on your machine. It could also be due to plugging certain devices into a USB port.I have NOTHING plugged into usb, no self installed software running and this is a 3 month old machine. The only thing plugged in (through ethernet) Is my vonage V-Portal wich I use for voip

Check Point to Celebrate 15th Anniversary by Giving Away ZoneAlarm Pro SoftwareWritten by Paul Lilly 11/17/08 at 08:18:19 AM
Given the widespread availability of free solutions, we know how power users hate to pay for security software. If you fall into this category, your options will become slightly more robust this Tuesday, November 18.
According to a spattering of reports, a company spokeswoman for Check Point said the company plans to celebrate its 15th anniversary by giving away a 1-year subscription to its ZoneAlarm Pro software security suite. For those not familiar with the program, ZoneAlarm Pro expands on the company's popular firewall solution by throwing in a spyware remover, protection against rootkits, ID theft protection, and other security odds and ends. The full program typically sells for $40/year.
If the reports hold true, you can download your copy from this link beginning at 6:00 AM US PDT time (8 AM Central) Tuesday morning. Procrastinators be warned, the link will only stay active for 24 hours.
