Save A Single Page Of A Multipage Fax As An Image
Mar 23, 2008Vista Bus x64 / Office Pro 2007. how to do the following that were simple to do in XP fax:
1. Save a single page of a multipage fax as an image (.png, gif, tif, jpg whatever)? Easy to save as a multipage .tif, but most sw opens only the first page. I regularly need to save the 3rd page (which is an invoice) of a 3 page fax; ie. I want an image of just the invoice (pref .png or gif). Was easy to do in XP.
2. Change the fax resolution (eg. faxing a Word doc - mainly text). Seem to have no option to select the fax resolution & quality seems worse than XP (I used 200x200).
3. I cannot get Outlook contacts to show up in the Fax & Scan utility. Just Windows Contacts (which I do not use).
Windows Desktop Backround
Apr 1, 2008I just installed some new internet protection software and after the installation was complete is disabled my ability to have a desktop backround. When I go to the change desktop backround icon in the control panel, it says that "this feature has been disabled, talk to computer adminastrator" Since I am the adminastrator I can't seem to find how to enable this feature again.

May 25, 2009Something has changed in my Home Premium system such that I can no longer save to the desktop! When I try, I get an error message stating " You don't have permission to save in this location." I do not recall changing ANY permissions to prevent this. I did have a problem installing Office Home 2007 and maybe that caused a change. Where do I need to go to set the permission back to allow me to save to the desktop?

Wallpaper Resizing?
Jun 27, 2008I've been running Vista now for over a year and ever since I made the switch, I've been annoyed, by how Vista deals with Wallpaper. I'm on using a widescreen monitor, with vista, it doesnt' resize the image to fit without stretching it. With XP, it would resize it while maintaining its proportions, but I can't seem to find a way to do that with vista.

Aug 26, 2008When I used to change my wallpaper I had 5 options to fit the image to the screen, cant remember them exactly but they were something like; Stretch to screen, fit horizontal, fit vertical, centered, and tiled. Why is it now that I only have; Centered, Tiled and stretch to screen?
Was this an update because this is really annoying!? It was much easier to fit the wallpaper to screen without stretching it when I could fit horizontal and vertical? Why can I not do this now?
Wallpaper Can't Working With VISTA
Aug 16, 2009Using Vista for the first time - lotsa little annoyances, but nothing I don't thing I can handle or deal with except... Whenever I shut down and restart, my wallpaper is gone. It's a simple JPG downloaded from the internet. I keep a few dozen in a folder and change them as the whim hits. Any idea why it doesn't remain in place a after a reboot?

Nov 3, 2009My computer shut down and when it re-booted the icons were SUPER LARGE and the picture wall paper I had is enormous now. I was able to get the icons back to normal but the wallpaper won't readjust. I have Vista 64-bit. In the old computer, all I had to do was right click and the properties box would open and I would just re-adjust the pixel size but this computer is different.

Feb 17, 2009I didn't seem to find a solution for this issue. I have a wallpaper that's 1280x800 and that's my monitor's resolution as well. I tried to have it "fit to screen" but the wallpaper ends up being at the upper left side of my screen (cutting part of the wallpaper). I've also tried the other available options tiling and centering but they all came out to be the same. I have to change the resolution every time I turn on my laptop in order for it to actually fit to the screen; change 1280 to another resolution and then change it back again to 1280 for it to actually fit. I can get the picture there ok, but if I try to set it as centered, all I get is the center of the picture as the wallpaper. If I try to tile the picture I get the top left hand corner of the picture as the wallpaper. It seems to be tiling or centering the screen on my picture, instead of tiling or centering my picture on the screen! Has anyone else come across this problem?

Feb 1, 2009I'm trying to change the way a wallpaper is displayed on the desktop (i.e. Stretch, Tile, Centred) but I can't. The wallpaper is always displayed stretched out and I can't change it to be tiled or centred.
The way I'm doing this (to no avail) is obviously to right-click the desktop, then choose "Personalize", then click on "Desktop Background", then click one of the three radio buttons at the bottom (in this case, either of the two on the right), then click "OK".

Update Changed Desktop, New Icons And Wallpaper
Nov 26, 20091. Windows Vista Home Premium wanted me to update so I did.
2. Update changed my desktop giving me new icons and a new wallpaper. But my files in My Pictures and My Documents were missing.
3. I used the Start Search to locate them and cut-pasted them into the My Pictures and My Documents folders in the new interface.
4. I shutdown my computer after I was done using it.
5. I turned on my computer again and Windows reverted back to the older (pre-update) interface.
6. I checked and to my luck the My Pictures and My Documents folders were empty again........

May 31, 2009I wanted to see what kinda the other vista boot screen would be if you untick the "No GUI boot" thing from msconfig. However, when I booted Vista loads that picture (there is no moving bar or anything) and suddenly gives me this error code: 0xc0000225: NLS data is missing or corrupt, vista cannot boot, contact system administrator, blah blah blah.
is Vista really this kinda OS? You disable GUI boot and you need to reinstall the whole OS? I really need to know how I can fix this. I also have ubuntu on this same pc and I can fully access vista files with it. Safe mode also gives that error.
Moving To The Next Folder Above
Oct 8, 2009Is there a way to move up a folder like there was in XP? In XP there was this icon Clicking it moved you to the folder above. Is there such a feature in Vista? I've been unable to find one. To be certain we are talking about the same thing. Double click and enter a folder on your Desktop. Once there, how do you move to the folder above that folder?

Jun 8, 2008However, I now cannot backup my email. Before I would copy the dbx files and it would take about 10 minutes to do 5gb. Now however - I have 400,000 eml files (I have a lot of email from my web businesses). These eml files are all small. So my problem is that windows first of all takes approx. 2 hours just to calculate the damn size. Then when it eventually starts to copy the files from one location to another (Either on the same RAIDed sata drives, or to another) it estimates days of transfer time left. And I know the calculations are never right, so I left my PC on for 9 hours one night and it wasn't even half way through! It was transferring at 2mb per second! I can upload the data to the internet and back faster than that!
I mean - what the hell? If 98 can do it, me, 2000, xp... what's gone wrong with Vista? So far it's been a pile of junk and it's driving me mad! I'm really trying to like it and make it work, but it's about to be sent back to the shop. So folks - can you tell me why this nonsense? How do i get around it? How can I backup these thousands of tiny files without leaving my PC on for days (I want to do a 10 min backup each day to another sata drive, simple task).
Moving ANY From One Machine To Another.
Apr 20, 2008I had my own motherboard start playing up on a machine I use with Vista Business on it.I upgraded it from XP Pro Feb 2007. When it started playing up I changed the motherboard and CPU and thought that I would have to do a repair install, then install motherboard drivers and possibly have to activate all over again the same as you do with XP in this situation.Nope.I could NOT do a repair install on it and in fact had to lose the whole thing and install fresh!I have my own image backup using True Image 10 Home version so can get data back from there but it isnt the ideal setup.What happens, in the future, when a business with Vista has the motherboard go bang? They have to lose everything the way I did and start again? Talk about a BIG problem for Microsoft if so.So, after I quietened down I thought - no it must just be my mistake. I looked around and I cannot prove I was wrong.If there is a way to repair install so you can move everything to a new machine the same as you could for XP.
