Vista 'paneing' Windows
Jun 13, 2010
I have 256,000 windows open and in use (well 7) and I have minimised them all(show desktop) so I can pop one window up Cant be done with this useless POS because when you pop one window up it pops all other windows up too - Vista also has trouble 'paneing' windows. Then Microsoft have the brass gaul to describe Windows 7 window paneing as some new breakthru "feature" that was standard in XP and before. In actual fact the Windows 7 window paneing can only ever be described as "a feature" if compared directly to POS Vista that cant perform due to incompetent programming. There should be a law against deliberately deceiving the public Sorta reminds me of Vista *New* *Search* *Feature* which cant find it's own ace with both hands - unlike XP which performed searches with ease

My computer is coming close to need reinstalling. At the moment I am running windows vista 32 bit. I have a retail boxed version of vista, which includes the 64 bit version of vista. I have a HP computer, which has a quad core processor and has 4 gigs of ram. I wondered what the pros and cons are when having the 64 bit version of windows vista?

I am running Windows Vista Premium Home SP1. When I boot my computer, Windows Defender doesn't start automatically. It works fine if I start it manually. I have never run Windows OneCare, MSCONFIG shows it set to start, the Windows Defender service is set to automatic and Tools | Options has all the checkboxes checked.

I'm running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit edition Dutch Version, updated with SP1 and all the patches/updates until today. However, I have encountered two problems lately, that might be related. During one of the last Windows update sessions, one of the recommended updates was KB940157: Windows Search 4.0 for Windows Vista for x64-systems (11,8MB).
The update downloaded succesfully, created a restore point, but then during installation of Search 4.0, windows update stops and announces an update fail error:
Failed: 1 update
Errorcode: 800F0900
I've been googling this particular error code in combination with KB940157, but it doesn't bring up any entries. Then later on, I discovered that when I go into the Windows Components window (via Control Panel, Add/remove software), the entire windows stays blank (first it says "Wait a few moments..."). This only lasts a few seconds then shows a complete empty window.

Announcing the Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 RC - Windows Vista Team Blog - The Windows Blog Quote: This week we are announcing that Service Pack 2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 has hit an important milestone in development: Release Candidate (RC).

Specifically, we expect SP2 to continue the security benefits of both products and simplify deployment for our customers. For an outline of changes in SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, check out the notable changes document. We are planning to release SP2 for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 in the second quarter of 2009.

Just bought a new HP Pavilion DV2860 notebook. For a couple of days I have been using Vista and I didn't really like it. Many of the applications that I used to use in on Windows XP are not capiable with Windows Vista! I have got a Windows XP Professional 64-bit edition CD and was planning to install Windows XP on the notebook. Can I use 2 operating systems on the notebook? I don't want to delete Windows Vista but I want Windows XP.

I calculated that to migrate to Vista or Windows 7 will cost close to =A32000. not including my time - It will take around 100 hours. This is because many of my existing software / tools / utilities does not work on Vista and the vendors expect me to buy a new license because it is a "new product" even though it does exactly what it did before - just on a different OS. Even the products that do work have problems and glitches that have to be worked around. All this takes time MY VALUABLE time. In other words I am suffering because Microsoft want money. In the past some versions of windows were worth migrating to Windows 2000 and Windows XP were great
But most of the improvements to Vista / Windows 7 are mostly transparent to normal users - even monster power users like me. I believe Microsoft have a serious attitude problem. just wait until they take full advantage of TPM to screw even more money out of us. If I am wrong please point out a real tangible benefit that Vista or Windows 7 brings to a large percentage of users or to me. I also I can no longer buy a laptop because they only come with Vista GPU drivers (some come with buggy unsupported XP GPU drivers - great)

I'm running Windows Vista, SP2 with 2 GB of RAM. All WU's are current. On June 23 I foolishly installed (from a pirated CD) a copy of Finale 2002 Music notation program. While the program does seem to work, I'm now having problems with his program either freezing itself (requiring a hard shutdown), freezing Windows or my computer freezing when other apps are open, like Firefox.
Finale 2002 was obviously created for OS's prior to Vista.I'd like to uninstall this program but selecting it on Add/Remove and trying to uninstall it gives the following error message: "An error occurred while trying to uninstall Finale 2002. It may have been already uninstalled. Would you like to remove Finale 2002 from the Programs and Features List". I've been selecting `No'.
The `uninstaller' file that comes with Finale 2002 does nothing when invoked.Since I created a Restore point prior to installing Finale 2002 on June 23, I tried to restore the computer but at this point I can no longer view that point. It won't show on the list of restore points, even if I show restore points older than 5 days. Has that restore point been permanently deleted? If so, is there a way to estore the computer to some date prior to June 23rd. Or perhaps there's a program I can download that will correctly uninstall Finale 2002. I looked on the internet but to no avail. I thought about just re-installing the program again but am afraid of screwing up my Registry.

I am having quite some issues with a new computer that we got for our
company's director. It is an HP Pavilion Media Center m8325f Elite. Although
it comes with Windows Vista Home edition, we bought the upgrade to Windows
Vista Business edition. Once we installed this upgrade, we started having a
blue screen every other time we reboot this computer. The error code that we
get ( 0x0C5 ) talks about a driver that got corrupted. There are some
articles in your site that suggests choosing a specific starting mode to
identify which driver is the one that tries to use a page outside its pool.
It is not even a month since we bought the computer, and now we are
having another kind of blue screen in which Windows complains about a
specific antivirus file that got corrupted.

We frequently send mails with Windows Mail in Vista. Recently we found out that some mail were sent but never were sent to the e-mail adress on the e-mail. We found this out by testing and sending a test mail to our gmail account and it was never received allthough it was in the sent items in Windows Mail. We also sent the same mail from my old computer (outlook Express) it was received correct by gmail.

Seen lots on this - have tried to follow advice and even uninstalled McAfee and recreated mail account from scratch on Windows Mail - still no luck - still get the windows security prompt. Cannot download or send any emails. V. frustrating - especially when going through the risk of unistalling protection (which came pre-installed).
Is there a published document from Microsoft on this problem? Some definitive, clear, step-by-step advice for those who simply want to transfer from XP to Vista wihtout these unexpected, business damaging issues.

....or is it also for users, who don't run a comapny? I have bought a Windows VISTA DVD and when I received it, it had "OEM System Builder Pack" written on it. It also says: "EXCLUSIVELY for system builders." And after some research on the Wikipedia I see that COMPANIES that sell PCs normally buy OEM licenced software. I gues users should buy a "retail" version. (NOT OEM versions)
Because Wikipedia says the requirements are:"The requirements include: automated methods of installation of the product; customization of the installation to identify the OEM; first level technical support of the product..etc." I want to install it because there's NO 64-bit Vista Ultimate in my language...excepting this OEM version. But I don't know what the consequences might be...(I mean, I can't add info about customer support, my company's name, etc....Because I'm just a user, not a manufacturer!)
