Virus AntiMalware 2010 Required File

Mar 24, 2010

I recently aquired the "Vista AntiMalware 2010" rogue antimalware. I was trying to get rid of it, then I found this site Vista AntiMalware 2010 - how to remove And deleted the only registries I found. I restarted my computer, and when I started it, this came up on a black screen: NTLDB not found (or removed or something)Press any key to restart

I'm pretty sure it was NTLDB but not 100%. I was pretty worried, and so when I restarted it again, I hit F12, then exited that. The computer started fine, it got to my desktop OK. BUT I can't open any programs except for Firefox. This error message comes up when I open iTunes, or any other program:This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Associations control panel.I do no know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I don't know much about technology, but I can follow directions, and I'm not entirely stupid. Also, before this happened, I couldn't install anything. And when I tried to, it said:Internal error: can not expand shell folder "userappdata" Again,

EDIT: I also can't get to the command prompt, registry editor, or malicious removal tool. Nothing is working. And this is only on my user. My sister's and my dad's work just fine.

Can Get A Virus: Does Antivirus Or Antimalware Remove Bad Stuff?

Apr 22, 2010

I read an article last week that the number one thing to do to protect your computer from malware is to run it in a "user" account. Equal to that is simply good behavior or sites on internet. Also to keep everything updated. I have always done these things. I run the latest Avast for my antivirus protection. I also have windows defender protection on and PC Tools Firewall Plus for firewall. Tonight I looked at drudge report and clicked on a link to a British newspaper. The article wasn't what I thought it was and it looked like a tabloid (Sun? closed so quick don't remember) and tabloid is not news so I quickly closed that window and went on to next links. My computer went slow after that. Just did not seem right. Restarted in safe mode and ran cCleaner computer clean and registry clean in both user and admin. Restarted and all my appearance settings are different. Runs slow or different. I remembered Windows Defender updated yesterday and the update always does a restore point. Tried to run System restore to restore to yesterday settings. After giving admin permission I saw the wait circle just disappear. It was like vista just ignored or canceled the start up of system restore. Every time I retried System restore it did the same thing or crashed my computer.

This smells like a virus. I go to main stream web sites only, run computer with (default limited) user account (use admin only when I need to make certain changes which is rare), Avast updates automatically multiple times a day. With these settings and behavior I thought I was bulletproof. I even read that $10,000 hacking prize winner Dino Dai Zovi and Rich Mogull both said Vista more secure than Apple Mac. I am currently scanning whole computer with a-squared Free. I will then scan with Avast, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, Windows Defender, and again with Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, in that order. What do I do if all these scans find nothing?

What do I do now? I never had a virus or malware before. Is it like the mumps, you want to get it as a child and not an adult? Does antivirus or antimalware remove bad stuff or does it just tell me I am infected and I need to reformat and rebuild system

'Windows Cannot Open Required File"

May 15, 2010

I have a problem with my Packard Bell ISTART 2380 Due to the fact that my Packard Bell ISTART 2380 contained many viruses, I finally decided to to do a complete recovery install. I am currently trying to recover my Packard Bell PC but I'm having considerable problems doing so. Firstly, I created a 'DVDrecovery disc' using Packard Bell's Smart Restore console and I also downloaded and created a 'Vista recovery iso file' from neosmart.net onto a DVD using an application called Imgburn. I burned this iso file at two different speeds as I have read that burning an iso file at certain speeds, particlulary high speeds, can affect the actual files contained in the iso file. possibly making them currupt and unreadable when doing an install from it.

Messages I have been receiving over the course of trying to solve this problem, include; 'BOOTMGR is missing' and 'Windows cannot open the required file E:Sourcesinstall.wim'. Error code 0x80070002. I don't quite understand why this is happening considering that this Packard Bell model, like many, now come with a special partition as part of the Hard drive (called a Boot partition? or 'X' drive) where I can only presume all the necessary files required for a successful restore or even a full install of Vista itself reside. I have gone through the standard Packard Bell recovery console to repair Windows Vista Home Premium and also to reinstall it completely but it doesn't resolve things at all............

Windows Movie Maker: Codec Required To Play The File Is Not Installed

Mar 23, 2008

I was trying to import some videos I downloaded online and it says,"The file C:UsersRosalieDownloads[DB]_Naruto_Shippuuden_010_[EC7747DE].zip cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again." But, I already installed the DivX codec that the website I downloaded the clip from recommended and I tried restarting WMM.

I know that I did this before on my old computer. I downloaded videos from the same website, and I had to download the DivX codec. Once I downloaded the codec, the files worked, and i was able to download them. Does anyone know why it won't work for me now? Could it have anything to do with the files having been downloaded as zipped folders?

Restore Program Quits : Virus In Restore File

Jan 18, 2010

I am running a hp pavilion dv9730 with vista home prem. 32. I need to restore my system but the restore program quits do to a virus in the restore files. As it is restoring Norton sees the virus and removes it from my system but Norton can not see the virus inside the restore files. Right now my system is fine (virus wise) but I need to restore from an earlier restore point because I deleted some files and now my cd/dvd drive is not recognized. But like I said, I can not restore do to the fact that I have a virus buried inside my restore files. I could care less about the virus in the restore files, my main goal is to get my cd/dvd drive working again so I can install my business software.

Cost Office 2010?

Mar 26, 2010

Does anyone know how much it will cost to upgrade Home & Student 2007 to
2010 when it goes on sale in June? I purchased this 2007 installation disk
two years ago. I am not at all dissatisfied with the applications but would
prefer working with the latest releases if the cost is not prohibitive.
Replies and comments would be appreciated.

Installing Office Professional 2010

May 15, 2010

I have a Samsung netbook with Windows 7 starter edition, 250GB HD and 1MB of RAM. I purchased it with a trial version of Office Home and Student which has expired. I am a public sector employee which entitles me to a discount on Microsoft Office Professional 2010 which I have downloaded and installed after unistalling Home and Student 2007 using the Programs and Features in Control Panel.

Now, when I open Excel 2010, if I make a new file and save it, it works fine. But when I try to open an Excel file from Office 2007 or 2003, it will open but if I try to change the file or save it as an Office 2010 file, excel stops working and shuts down. Windows has no solutions to this problem. I have checked for updates, but all that windows update offers are updates for the 2007 version of Office.

Hacked By Vista Antispyware 2010

Mar 28, 2010

I'm new at this so sorry if this has already been posted and answered. Basically I was hacked by vista antispyware 2010 a couple of times and its really messed up my laptop. I got it to go away by using safe mode then the nrmal mode but I'm sure it's still there. It's made "open with" come up everytime i use a program and grayed out the default option. It won't let me use anything but internet explorer giving me the message "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set associations control panel." I tried to attempt a system restore but "open with" comes up and i dont know which program to use for this.

Office 2010 Preview From Connect, Not Impressed

Jul 14, 2009

I was invited to download the Office 2010 preview from Connect. Not too impressed so far. It has no stationery at all & the only wizard I've found thus far is the envelope wizard. Office 2007 was bad enough with its plethora of already-written forms and hardly any decent smart-looking templates for business or personal letters, but this one has none at all, meaning not even one.

Generally I see little difference from Office 2007 except a much plainer "look". Which isn't always a good thing. Perhaps I'm being impatient. I only installed it 5 minutes ago but do NOT like it, sorry!!

Installed BDIS 2010 Have Stopped Working

Oct 5, 2009

I just uninstalled BitDefender Internet Security 2009 in order to upgrade to BDIS 2010. I used their uninstall tool, rebooted, then rebooted again choosing a clean boot so I could install BDIS 2010. When I got to the end it wouldn't let me activate. The message was "activation failed because no internet connectioin was detected. Please connect and try again." Now BD says they are aware of the problem and are working on it.

However, since I installed BDIS 2010 a lot of other things have stopped working. Windows Explorer, my snipping tool, when I try to take a screen shot and paste it into paint it says "information on the clip board can't be inserted into paint." I'm also continuously getting the message that IE8 is not working and is being shut down by DEP. I don't know what else might not be working. BitDefender, naturally, has turned off their chat support. Does anyone know what could be causing all this stuff not to work?

Needed - Security Essentials Instead Of Norton 2010

My NIS 2010 runs out in 15 days, and instead of paying them $60 for another year I'm wondering if it's safe enough to just use MSE and the built in firewall.I never had any complaints with norton, it worked great, never noticed it at all, but I just can't justify spending $60 for something is MSE is at least or even almost as good.I haven't seen many independent tests of MSE,while I know that Norton is one of the best at detection and removal.

I am having difficulty connecting to the wireless network that my apartment building provides. I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. On my old computer, which had Windows XP, I had no problems. All XP required of me was to enter the password that my landlord provided to me in order to access the secured wireless network. However, now that I have Vista, I try to connect and it asks me for: 1. Username, 2. Password and 3. Log on Domain. The only information I have is the password which worked on XP before. When I enter only that, I get a message saying "Additional Log on Information Required" or something to that effect. I don't have any more information than that.

Vista64 Ultimate SP1: Validation Required

I decided to attempt an online reactivation and low and behold Vista reactivated? How could this be? I installed once with the key. The second time I had to call Microsoft (in India I think) and the third validation was OK online? I don't know if this has happed to others but I thought I'd share my weird experience with the latest and greatest Micro$oft product.
