If I try to print an email or from a web page, all I get is a blank page with the web page heading at the top, and the URL at the botton. The body is completely blank. I've checked my advanced settings, and nothing there is out of the ordinary.
View 5 RepliesAs I gather many others are experiencing, with Vista Home Premium my HP 5650 printer will not print from the internet. The printer works fine on my old laptop with Windows XP, so I assume the problem is with Vista. If I disable the Protected Mode in Security Settings, it will print, but that is a clumsy, inconvenient, and perhaps risky solution at best. Does anyone know whether Windows technicians are working on a solution to this problem. Bill T.

It all started when my Internet Explorer or Microsoft Office Outlook kept on getting stuck, and I would get a note that Internet Explorer / Outlook is restarting. I've been experiencing this problem in particular only with these two.
Next - as of yesterday, I started getting all these weird messages when logging onto familiar websites, such as Google and even Microsoft, about how there's a problem with the websites' security certificate, and that it's expired, so I have to click on "Continue to this website" every single time, and the worst part is that I can't logon to my MSN Messenger! The Error Code is: 80048820, and the Extended Error Code is: 80048412. I've tried working with their Troubleshoot, but nothing works! It's strange, because my Skype is working perfectly fine.
I don't live at home, so MSN is a very important communication tool for me. The third problem is that all of the usual Windows Updates, which are normally downloaded automatically, are not downloaded anymore, and I get a message that the Updates could not be downloaded.
My computer decided to download the latest updates (some security updates) anyway after the updates i was unable to browse with internet explorer. my connection was fine because i was able to log on to msn messenger and windows live mail. so i restored to a date previous to the update installation, then i was able to browse again, well the updates decided to install themselves again today and the same thing happened again. i had to restore again. i am sick of this. what is going on with this latest security update, i cant keep restoring. Second Im in the middle of a very important exam and this update crap keeps interrupting.

I would like to be able to use the X32 bit version of IE as my default browser. How can I accomplish this? I have one game provider that runs only on X32 bit, and I would like to be able to download their games. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition X64 bit SP2.

The problem does not exist in Firefox or with any other application - Office 2007, Acrobat, etc. I am told that turning off 'protected mode' would solve the problem. Is there any fix that is a little less dangerous and time consuming? I have uninstalled and reinstalled printer [wireless] with fresh drivers. Printer is physically connected to a XP Home machine but attaching it to one of the Vista computers makes no difference.

It shows the item in print preview but when print is selected nothing happens other than the printer icon shows briefly before disappearing followed by nothing. The printer details state there are no documents pending. I can print from all other programmes such as Word,Excel etc so I know the fault is not with the printer.

I get the a windows internet explorer error box indicating that it cannot find 'file///C:Users/Frank/AppData/Local/Temp/Low. Make sure the path or internet address is correct. Later I get a script error box. When I reboot I regain the ability to print from the internet and then when I really want to print something again the error returns. I have a very basic stand alone setup (no LAN) with hard wired Verizon Fios and a router. I have HP computer and printer.

My Desktop can see the Laptop; but the Laptop doesn't show the Desktop and I am unable to print from the Laptop. View 6 Replies View RelatedI replaced the XP Home desktop machine (died) that hosts our laser printer. The new box is Windows Vista. After the usual pain of working through issues, it mostly is satisfactory. Two problems remain with network printing. 1) If the host machine (Vista) has fallen into an idle state (I haven't tweaked standard settings), my XP machine is unable to print to the printer on the Vista system. I have to go and move the mouse to wake it up. XP as a host never had this problem.
2) If either computer is rebooted for any reason, I lose access to the network printer. I have to delete it and add it again. I assume this has to do with the inability to retain the account/password to access the Vista system. I'd really like a fix for these annoyances.
After fighting to get rid of a Trojan horse virus, I am missing the internet browser. E-mail works OK. Clicking 'Internet' icon gets me the message 'Internet Explorer has stopped working:". I tried 'restore' but it is not working either. I get the message 'an unspecified error occurred during system restore'. I scanned with AVG and the files it scanned are clean. I have a 'restore' DVD made by the computer vendor but when I stick it in the CD drive nothing happens. The computer is a 1 year old ACER with VISTA home premium preinstalled. How do I proceed from here? I have no idea what to do.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI wasn't quite sure if IE8 was the culprit, but it became apparent once I removed it. Internet Explorer 8 interferes with the functionality in Windows Explorer for Vista. Say for example: With IE8 installed, open up "Computer". Close it, then open it again. It should be instantaneous. But its not. A window will take over to 10 seconds to show its initial contents. Once its open though, its very fast because the instance is already running. But once it closes it will take another 10 seconds to open again. Internet Explorer 8 itself opens up very slowly even after the first opening. Can any Vista users verify this?
1. Install IE8
2. Go: Start > click Computer
3. Close that Window.
4. Repeat step 2.
Is it an instantaneous opening or does the window take more than 5 seconds to populate? Repeat those steps with opening Internet Explorer. Is it the same? If so, welcome to the club. Does Microsoft have any way to report this bug to developers?
I always used outlook 2003 in Win XP Pro, then I got a new computer and I installed my registered version of Microsoft Office 2003 on my new computer running Vista Home Premium. Then I found out that I was not able to get attachments in Outlook from anybody that had me in the Cc as a recipient. It did work as long as I was the only reciepient though.So I thought so what, I will use vista.mail, because it allows me to use the newsgroups as well. It reminded me on Outlook Express. Now I miss using Outlook again, and I clicked on the icon, and right away Outlook freezes, and I can't get the cursor on to the Outlook desktop, it will stay all around my other desktop, but will not go to Outlook. Have they changed things in Outlook on my present OS so I will be able to look at attachments from my friends? and how do I get Outlook to respond again. Maybe I need to turn something off or on in either Outlook or Vista.

Two of my colleagues have recently started using Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 respectively as their mail client (both of them running on an Windows XP SP3 PC). It happened several times already that I was only able to receive the text of their email messages, but not any attachments at all. Their attachments are Word documents and PDF files. I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.
View 6 Replies View RelatedContact has a Vista business laptop that until recently when you went into Windows Explorer to look at pictures you can press the email button and it would prepare an email in their email client Mozilla Thunderbird with the image as a file attachment.
However recently this has changed back to Microsoft Outlook for no particular reason. Checked all the defaults and they all point to Thunderbird still being the default program for email. Under file associations, have checked that for protocols, SENDTO is set to Thunderbird. However the "E-mail" button still now brings up Outlook. How can I change this back. It's very frustrating and I've played around for a good long while.
I am connecting an external hard drive (Acomdata 250G drive - pretty standard) via USB to my HP laptop running Vista. I am able to see the device listed under Disk Drives in the Device Manager. Drilling into Properties, I see that the device is running properly and, having re-loaded the device drivers, I have the most recent drivers. The issue: I am unable to see the device listed in Window Explorer, and thus I can't drill into the folders to get at the content.
I brought a laptop of mine over to my gfs today and connected it to anexisting network that her roommate has setup. I have not had any luck getting it to connect either by wireless connection, connecting to an ethernet cable to a wireless router which goes to the modem, or connection to the ethernet cable which goes directly to the modem.
I had no problems with this laptop at my place connecting to wireless or wired and both places use comcast cable for internet.
I've been searching forums all day looking for clues. I have seen a lot of talk of MAC addresses, unable to contact your DHCP server, ip renewing etc. But nothing seems to work. It defaults to a 169.254.*ip which I believe means it cannot connect to the DHCP server.
In my 64-bit installation, the print spooler server suddenly stopped running (and will not restart). When I click this down arrow the folders become invisible (closed) but I'm unable to reopen them unless I close Explorer and reopen it. Also, without having to to install 3rd party software, is there a way in Explorer tot display ONLY the Folder structure of my drives? I want only to 'see' C: open and the other drives closed. She has a link in the start menu that says (internet explorer 64 bit)
This is what she clicks to go on the internet, Now when she visits or clicks on links, she will sometimes get a message that she needs to install flash player.
She already has the latest flash player installed, but apparently this does not work on this "internet explorer 64 bit"
I diden't even know there was a 64 bit internet explorer.
And it goes on to say something like flash player is for 32 bit browsers, for flash player to work on 64 bit browsers search online for help, or it directs you to microsoft help and support.

so i thought i would just ask to see if there is one thing i could follow to fix this problem..
Internet explorer (7) won't run. I found that the IEXPLORER.exe is not in the directory. I have tried to install IE8 but it fails on configuring every time. Same happens when I try to install the cummulative IE7 updates (she's not good at installing updates). Everytime I try any kind of install or update concerned with IE it fails at the configuration phase. Other problems are that she can no longer use windows messenger. This connects but terminates in failure almost instantly.
I've ran a Norton Security scan which has found 144 tracking cookies but nothing more. The fix now button produces fail to lauch link which may well have something to do with the IE problem. Google Chrome is installed and works OK. I don't know what the last good restart point is. I've tried going into the repair feature on windows live essentials through the programs and features in the control panel but I just get a fatal error 0x8007007. Can't even look at internet options in control panel. That won't open either.
Interested to know how many people use IE7?
Looks like readability is very good in IE7 and my favorite font arial appears crisp and clear?
Just curious to hear a feedback on this?
Ive d/led the beta for IE8, dont know whether to insatll or not. What do ppl think of the new browser? What bugs have been encountered?
