Dec 22, 2008I've read a few topics that talk about editing the Recycle Bin right-click menu, but I don't care about that. What I want to do is to be able to right-click anywhere...in any folder, on the desktop, etc. and have the option of emptying my recycle bin. I had a registry tweak in XP and I tried it in Vista just to see if it would work, but no good. I know it can be done via a registry setting but I'm not too familiar with Vista's system registry locations yet.

I have lost, for some reason, the Create a Desktop Short cut from my right click context menu.
I tried one thing and all I got was the Desktop icon on my Desktop. I did more searching but can NOT find: "the file *Desktop (create shortcut)* from the Default user folder."
I went to my User folder and there is no such item. Am I looking in the wrong area?
Unable To Open DOC Document Through Windows Mail
Sep 21, 2009I receive a message that states "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the set Assoc control panel". This started after getting my new computer and changing from using Microsoft Outlook Express with Windows XP to Windows Mail with Vista.
I checked the file associations. If I set a file extension of .doc to Microsoft Word (2007) instead of Microsoft Works Word Processor, the a file with .doc will not open but will open under Works Word Processor. This only occurs will email attachments. I don't have any problems if the attachment is saved from another computer to a jump drive and then try to open it on my computer.
My husband got a computer about the same time that I did and he doesn't have this problem but he also doesn't use Windows Mail either (He reads his emails from the internet - Yahoo). I used Outlook Express before and didn't want to lose any of my old documents.

Jun 10, 2009When I type a long article in Notepad & paste into WindowsMail line breaks become messed up, forcing me to go back to editing "business" and click/delete redundant line breaks as often as there're lines in a document, if it's 1000 lines, go ahead and spend time clicking for an hour! This make plain text editor unworkable In Vista +WindowsMail environment, due to weird linebreaks handling. Why do I claim it to be weird? BECAUSE IT WAS PERFECT IN WindowsXP. I could create a simple ad/artcile in Notepad, copy/paste into OutloookExpress --> Newsgroup posting or Email, and no linebreaks stupidity. Another hemorrhoid in Vista, sometimes I have a forbidden thought: If WinXP could live for another 10 years albeit with security updates & new hardware drivers that would be nice. When I hear "Vista" it causes heartburn.

Jul 3, 2008I have installed Works Suite 2006 in my Vista Home Premium computer. Everything works fine apart from Word 2002. I am unable to open Word by clicking on document files. If I double click on a document file in Explorer nothing happens. If I right click and select Open With, and then click on wordicon, nothing happens. I am also unable to launch Word from the Works Suite program launcher. I can open Word, no problem, and it appears to work fine, but to edit a document I have to search for it from within Word, which is often inconvient. I have un-installed the suite, and re-installed it, but the problem still persists.

Dec 26, 2007I'm trying to partition drive C but it won't let me. New laptop is Toshiba Satellite and had the store configure it for me since I'm new to Vista.
1. Through Disk Management, I shrink drive C and now have an unallocated space of 51G.
2. From the unallocated space, I create a new simple volume. It goes through the Wizard, but then I get the following error message: "The attempted operation is invalid. Either the parameters specified are invalid or the operation cannot be completed on the selected object."
3. The contour of the unallocated space is highlighted in black instead of green. Is that an indication of something? And shouldn't it say: Free space instead of unallocated? Additional info:.....

If I look in Event Viewer under administrative events, I read the following message: 'The initial Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol request could not be successfully sent to the server. This can be due to network connectivity issues or certificate (trust) issues. The detailed error message is provided below. Correct the problem and try again. Jul 27, 2009I have just purchased an Acer Aspire 8935g laptop, which comes with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit (not sure why 64bit isn't supplied). It has two 500gb hard drives; Disk 0 and Disk 1. Disk 1 is empty and I have successfully created 3 partions on this drive. According to Vista's Disk Management tool, Disk 0 contains three partitions. The first and last are both EISA Configuration partitions and can't be seen through Windows Explorer. The 2nd (middle) partition is the C: partition on which Vista is installed.
I want to install Windows 7 RC 64bit in a dual boot configuration, so I used Disk Manager to shrink the C: partition and then create a new 100gb partition. I assigned it the drive letter B: (there are no floppy drives on the laptop). The new B: partition is visible, along with the original C: partition through Windows Explorer, until I reboot the laptop. The B: partition then disappears and Windows Explorer can no longer see it, however Disk Management shows it is still there but it no longer has a drive letter and is now an EISA Configuration partition. I thought this issue might be caused by the choice of drive letter so I tried again using a different letter (F: ). Each time the drive is only visible to Windows Explorer until the laptop is rebooted. I've also tried using a different partition management tool (Partition Wizard) but it makes no difference. I've tried creating the partition as logical and primary but to no avail. explain Why can't I create a visible partition on my "O/S" drive?
Business: Unable To Create A Print Job.
Mar 23, 2008I am having printing problem on my Vista business machine. I have a printer server (Windows 2003 server Domain Controller), and the new Vista is joind to domain as a standard user. When I add shared printers to the Vista, it prints out without problem. Problem is, however, after I restart the Vista, I am getting this error messages everytime I tried to print test pages. "Test page failed to print. Unable to create a print job".

what i did was under system properties page, i clicked system protection tab on the left side checked the boxes( all system drives ie hard disk drives) and clicked apply then the message i described was popping out and when clicked create also the same message is being displayed.

Nov 12, 2009I have been using Windows Mail for my Yahoo addresses and by right clicking on the W.M. icon in the programme list above the start button I put a shortcut on to the desktop that has been working very well. Today I have combined Yahoo and Hotmail addresses under the WLM umbrella. But I cannot find how to make a shortcut. Nowhere can I find the relevant WLM icon to make a shortcut from. Obviously I am missing something, somewhere, but what is it?

Apr 18, 2008I have a microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse which work really well but when I reboot, the keyboard shortcuts that I have programmed don't work until I go into properties and click on them and then click ok. The keys then work ok until I reboot again.Is there any way that I can programme the changes so they are the default programmes whenever I reboot. The software loaded fine and I clicked on apply and save when I originally set the keys.....I have a HP Pavilion DV6700 Laptop with windows visa home premium which is about one month old.

Create An Account For Another User I Cannot Create One, Either Admin Or Standard
Sep 13, 2009I am running Windows Vista Home Premium 32 (system specs: laptop 2.1 Ghz core 2 duo, 4 gb RAM, 500gb hd (about half full) nvidia 8400M GS, Avira Premium Security Suite). I have had the computer for about a year running fine with 1 main admin account. Now when I need to create an account for another user I cannot create one, either admin or standard. When I create it, using either the control panel or command prompt, it creates the user picture, making the account visible on the control panel user accounts screen, and on logon screen. However, when trying to log into the new account I am greeted with the error "User profile service failed on logon. User profile cannot be loaded." The standard fix for this from various forums is to edit the registry key of the account. However, on going to regedit I see that no key even exists for the account. On further investigation I discover that no user files have been created either. I attempted a system restore, but discovered that all my past restore points were gone, and intruigingly, the computer had stopped createing 24 hour checkpoints. I cannot say for definite whether it was this issue or another one that caused system restore to mess up, as I don't check my system restore all that often. Either way, system restore is not an option. There have been mentions of a full Vista reinstall, though if at all possible I would like to avoid this.

I don't want to create some dummy account just just to log in to join the domain. Mar 30, 2009Whenever I try to print something from the web, I get a 'Save file as' window that shows 'File name *xps' and File type 'XPS Document'. I cannot delete them and I am unable to print because of it.

Mar 23, 2008Yesterday, I opened a document (Office Student 2007) from my e-mail account on the web (not Outlook)
I clicked "Save" repeatedly throughout the day and was never prompted to select "Save As" and when I X'd out, it did not say "Are you sure you want to close without saving?" so, I assumed all was well. However,when I went back to open it, it wasn't there. I searched all the folders, hidden folders, temp internet files, etc. but cannot find it!
I was clicking "Save" so it has to be saved somewhere, right?
