I have a duel boot on my system, win vista and windows xp. i installed windows vista 1st and then windows xp sp2 but after installing windows xp i am unable to log into windows vista. when i restart it directly starts windows xp rather than showing windows select option
View 4 RepliesI have a HP pavilion laptop which came with 64 bit vista ultimate pre-installed. I shrinked the OS partition (160 GB), created new partition (40 GB) for 64 bit windows 7 ultimate. After installation of Windows 7, I cannot see the vista ultimate boot option when I boot my PC. When I boot into Windows 7, I still can see the vista partition. But instead of C: it is now displayed as E: I used the HP Recovery Disc to repair windows vista but I can only see a blank blue screen with the mouse pointer. How can I recover the vista?

He's only got Vista Ultimate 32bit retail while i have a Vista Ultimate 64bit OEM disk. So is it possible to send him my 64 bit disk and for him to install the 64bit version with his code so he can access all the ram hes going to have.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI don't even have system restore on my computer! I have tried everything that I've read about on the internet. I did the search, I did the windows+R and typed in rstrui.exe but it says that the program doesn't exist. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about computers but have managed to fix nearly all problems I've had with computers in the past on my own but this is killing me. I ran some stupid Registry First Aid program on the computer and suddenly, a bunch of things on my computer are going wrong.
I cannot access the internet, the computer won't even show that there is a network to connect to, but when I booted my older computer with the same modem and everything, it worked perfectly (that's the one I'm actually using now to post this!) A bunch of applications/programs aren't running properly anymore, even those little side links on the control panel window aren't working (I keep getting popups that say the file/program doesn't exist). It seems a lot of things are not existing on my computer!

I take it that this is for 32bit programs and the other for 64bit applications. The question I have is most of the programs are in both folders which means taken up valuable harddrive space, is it advisable to delette the 32bit folder.

I have UAC turned off and have shared the public folder (c:userspublic) with full control, change and read for everyone in share and Full control for everyone in the security tab. I can access the folder in windows explorer. If I select start network, machine name, public, I get a message that \machinenamepublic is not accessible. Network and sharing center show the following:
Network Discovery on
File Sharing on
Public floder sharing on (password required)
Printer sharing off
Password Protected Sharing on
Media sharing off
If I click on the link to show me all the files and folders that I am sharing nothing is displayed.
This is all local, not via the network.

I have some problems regarding a clean instalation of Vista x64. Some time ago my HDD has broken and I have bought a new one. So I have to instal Vista which I got when I was buying my laptop. It´s Asus n80, GeForce 9m series (not sure which one) 512mb, 4gb RAM, Intel 2.0 GHz Dual Core, not sure which motherboard but preaty sure it´s Gigabyte´s. So the problem is next;
I insert the Instalation CD in the DVD-ROM, I check the option, in BIOS for "boot from ´CD/DVD Drive´", the instalation beggins, I check the language, upgrade/custom (i choosed ´custom´), i accept the terms and then one of the following two happens:
1st. Starting Setup screen appears and then it freezes.. Actualy it doesen´t freeze, ´cause the "working cursor" is still moving but nothing happens.
2nd. Setup process beggins and when "expanding Windows files" beggins the setup just stops and this error code appears: Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installations. Error code: 0x80070057
I've created RAID-0 volume containing 2x150Gb WD VelociRaptor HDDs. Before copying files windows sees it as one volume (279Gb). I partitioned it as single volume and formatted it. But when i proceed further to copying files stage it displays the error "Windows could not determine if this computer contains a valid system volume" I have tried uploading RAID drivers. Didn't work. Same error.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI built a new machine using Microsoft Vista Ultimate 64-bit. All aspects of the machine appear to be working as expected, except for printing. I am unable to print to a functioning, directly-connected HP Deskjet 820Cse. I connected an older HP Deskjet 722c with the same negative results. The Vista sees both printers when connected, and says all drivers are correctly loaded. I try to print a test page, and in both printers the printer pre-loads, pulling up a sheet of paper into position for printing - and then stops. After about 60 seconds, the printer resets the printer cartridge, and then does nothing except blinks the power light. When trying to print to a LAN printer (one of the HPs listed above), Vista 64-bit indicates that the PC that is sharing out the printer has the incorrect drivers, yet it works fine with the shared PC running XP. Another Vista Home Premium machine on the LAN has no issues printing to the shared printers.

The Startup Repair ran for over twelve hours then I got BSOD: STOP 0x0000000A (0xDE49854E 0x00000002 0x00000000 0x888BA8D7)
Tried boot again same results as before; i.e. ndis. Running Startup Repair again now, two hours and counting. BTW running repair off of Anytime Upgrade disk if that makes any difference.
Just curious before I install Ultimate 64-bit on my new rig. I see that the Ultimate 64-bit OEM contains both 32 and 64-bit versions on the box. I was initially planning on installing the 32-bit and in a few months (or more) when the 64-bit has better support, re-installing the 64-bit version. Would it be feasible to just get another hard drive and install BOTH versions now on a dual-boot system?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running a workstation w/ 6 hard drives. My 1st O/S on a separate HD is Win 2K. 3 yrs. later I added XP Pro on another HD. Last yr. I added Vista Ult. on a 3rd separate HD. All worked well & after the SCSI initialization I got to choose which of the 3 to use. Foolish me: I decided to load one of the 3 remaining HDs w/ XP Pro so I could use it exclusively for gaming. Now when I power up I still get THREE choices but instead of Win 2K, XP Pro, and Vista, I get XP Pro (new), XP Pro, Win 2K, but Vista is no longer displayed as a boot choice. Any idea what happened and how I can get it re-displayed?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried all the common fixes posted around the net. I get a two minute boot in safe mode and in reg mode with nothing in the startup. I feel that after looking at the bootlog file that it has something to do with drivers that don't load during the boot. I put in a new 250GB HDD (SATA) as my primary drive. I have two DVD RW (one SATA and one EIDE). I formated and installed a clean version of Vista Ultimate on the 250GB drive using the install tools on the Vista DVD. Restarted the system without issues without the DVD in. Used the User migration tool on the Vista DVD to move the backed up files from my previous install to the clean install.
Now, if I start my computer, it says that the HDD is not a valid boot disk. If I start with the Vista DVD in one of the two DVD drives, it boots into the windows on the C drive without issue. I tried running the Startup Repair from the DVD, and it has not changed it
- I've already have XP Pro installed on my Dell Laptop
- Created a 15G partition on the same HDD using Partition Magic
- Went to BIOS and changed the Boot sequence to Boot From CD
- Inserted my Vista CD
- Vista started loading the files.........
- Entered the Product Key
- On the next screen, where you choose where to install vista, I have C, E, and F partitons and I can select each of them, but the "NEXT" is grayed out. I wanted to install the Vista on my F partion (all are NTFS) but the "Next" is grayed out and on the bottom left hand side there is a message saying" windows can not install the OS on this partion".
-Tried to delete the partion, format the partions, but getting the same message.
- 5 months ago I successfully was able to install the VISTA on this laptop, dualbooted with XP. But not anymore.
- My Admin formated my laptop 3 months ago as I moved to a different group within my organization and there wasn't a need to use VISTA. But now, I want to use both XP and VISTA again.
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate on several machines without incident. Yesterday I installed it onto my desktop. A Gateway that was previously running Win XP I had backed up my hard drive to an external becuase I wanted to do a clean setup. I chose those uptions as they appeared in the setup screen. The os set up fine. I then ran Windows Update. AFter everything downloaded I let the system install the 87 updates. The computer shyt down. I restaeted it and re-ran updates again. After downloading it installed about 7 more updates and shut down. Now when I turn on the machine. I get the "Splash Screen" tehn a black screen and in the top left corner it says: Booting "Windows Vista".....
That hangs for about two minutes then I get a screen that says Setup is inspecting your hardware configuration. Then a screen that says: The file ARFSPK0N could not be found Press any key to continue. I press a key and I get a Setup Failed and it just basically goes back to the beginning. I have tried installing the Original XP setup disc that came with my computer however it reads it then I get a message saying that Drive "R" could not be read and then my CD drive door opens. There is no disc in that drive as the setup disk is a DVD so it is in the DVD drive. I went into the whole setup screen and chnaged the boot order but nothing seems to work.
