I wanted to attach a TomTom Go 720T to my Windows Vista Home Premium notebook. Unfortunately Vista does not install the necessary USB mass storage driver and for that does not recognize the device. In device manager this is shown as "unknown device". I'm not able to use it and TomTom support told me that only the basic USB mass storage driver is needed and that is produced by the OS vendor.
View 4 RepliesCan not get my HP 7400 scanner to work after upgrading to Vista Ultimate 32 bit. Not the hardware - works fine under XP pro using same hardware configuration. Did a clean install, installed motherboard BIOS updates, scanner BIOS updates, Vista updates and the correct driver from HP. The scanner installed and Device Manager says device is working properly. When I try to scan, scanner initializes, starts to scan then locks up. Then can no longer be seen. ASUS M2N-E motherboard with AMD dual core. Other than that Vista works OK with the rest of my system
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have installed the correct driver for this belkin bluetooth usb dongle model: F8T012XX1 but in device manager, it has the belkin device and microsoft bluetooth enumerator, which is great. but when u get further down the list. it has a tab named "other devices" and then a subtab with "bluetooth peripheral device" which has an exclemation mark on it. i have searched for driver software using the update service but it cant find no update. i have looked for the name of the manufacturer but found nothing.i then disabled the unknown device, and sent a picture to my mobile phone. which confirmed that it was not the belkin bluetooth device. so i uninstalled the unknown device, restarted the computer. then when i logged in, it said that it had found a new device and wanted me to find the CD that came with it.

I do not know much about it as it is not mine, but the problem is the audio was cutting out and now there is nothing. The computer is not recognizing any type of audio device installed. Even in Device Manager, there is no option for Sound, game and controllers. I have tried downloading the driver and installing, but no luck there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I mananaged to get my Old HP PSC 500 to work on my HP Pavillion a6030n with VISTA gave up on the scanning part totally. Bought and installed a new I/O card to do this and tinkered for days! NOW, I realize I have NO SOUND searched all of the threads and experimented with various and sundry but to no avail. The speakers were old JBL PROs had been working changed them out for some old BOSTON speakers (also working on old Gateway) still getting the "No Audio Output Device Installed" and don't even get a "Sound and Video" portion in Device Manager!
Tried downloading Realtek AC97-Audio-Codec-driver-A397 as it was mentioned as a fix in another thread. No joy! Will installing another driver help this? I can't see why the card would be damaged as the previous install didn't go near it. I am not a total novice but small words would be helpful as my brainmatter is fried and not a lot of hair left on the head.
i have had no problems with my audio on my vista 32, until i recently put 4GB ram into my computer, switched it on and works fine, only problem was i lost my audio/realtec, i dont know why this happened, and i am unsure how to correct it and get it working again

All troubleshooting guides just tell me to enable the device, which is impossible as it says it is not installed as opposed to simply disabled. View 4 Replies View Relatedso i just got internet to my computer after almost 2 years of it being out of commission, it still worked and we were able to play games like solitaire and the sims but there was no internet hooked up to it. it installed all kinds of updates and one night i was listening to music via wmp and the next day i went to listen and it said "no audio output device is installed"
i tried updating the device and it said that my driver was up to date.
i also tried uninstalling it and rebooting my computer and that didn't work.
i don't see any error messages in the device manager, i clicked the icon with the little magnifying glass and nothing showed up.
i don't know what else i can do, besides take my computer and throw it into traffic.
i have alot of music on this computer that i listen to on a daily basis and would hate to have to switch it all to a new computer, or even buy a new computer for that matter just because my speakers aren't working.

I'm running Home Premium 64 on a Sony Vaio Laptop (CS170F). I'm having a curious problem: Yesterday I plugged into the machine the dongle of my wireless logitech mouse, and for some reason the machine said "Your unknown device is ready to use" (my OS is in spanish, the messages may not be accurately translated). Since then, an annoying message pops every few seconds warning about an "unrecognized USB device", that "didn't work as expected". The best part is this, if I click on the tray icon, sometimes the informative dialog window is emply, an other times shows all the USB ports in the system plus one extra with a "unknown UBS device", even without any device plugged into the system. I've tryed removing the unknown device from the device manager, but it shows up again.
I had been running Vista Ultimate x64 for a few months and recently found that I can only use the original USB mouse?! Installation of any USB mouse would show a new "USB Human Interface Device" in Device Manager but it just won't work. Installation of the very same model of my original mouse didn't work neither. So basically I am stick with the current mouse?

It then went to reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. I went into the BIOS to change the boot order and inserted my Vista home premium 32bit. I then got windows is loading in files. After a short while I got the black start up screen with Microsoft Corporation but after a few seconds it just froze. Moments later it went to a blue screen with white writing part of which said the following; A PROBLEM HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT DAMAGE TI YOUR COMPUTER.
My vista keeps locking up after various amounts of time, no matter whether its just idling, or im making the computer work hard. As ive read on other topics, I think its a driver issue, but I just dont know what to do. I will try another fresh vista install tomorrow and get the vista updates quickly to see whether that helps the situation. I have ensured it isnt overheating like it did initially when I bought the system, and it is now a safe and low temperature in a running state. Also, it only detects 3.5Gb of the 4Gb of RAM I have in my system. PC Spec:
Ive re-installed, windows, and it froze after I installed the chipset driver. I contiuned, and found a sound driver wasnt digitally signed. However it still crashes. I have got the latest drivers for it. For it to crash, all i did was open recycle bin, from idle state.
I shouldn't be surprised but here goes....I checked today for SP1 on windows update.. According to my computer no updates available however updates were last installed on 03/13/08 and yet when you look at installed updates it shows a windows defender update installed today. I have been reading several posts on this problem and have noticed that Carey Frisch posted a link to troubleshoot and now here is a problem and that is none of these apply to me... View 9 Replies View Relatedlet me start this nightmare story i had just done a fresh restalled and spent hours on getting everything installed on pc all was fine working perfectly untill that is i installed vista service pack 1 from windows updates the update process crashed halfway through so i had the only option to restart my pc then came the blue screen of death and it metioned if you have any new hardware installed make sure all drivers are installed etc etc of course i know it wasnt hardware it was because of me restating my pc half way threw the service pack 1 and the full files not been installed threw the update process crashed was the reason for the blue screen but the blue screen had notes advising me to clear shadow memory in the bois and any other memory so i stupidly assumed this was channel mapping and bank mapping and put them all to zero please see jpeg of what i changed i basically disabled everything that was enabled and put all the mapping channels and bank channels to zero and now when i switch on my laptop i get a blank screen with no post no ...........

Now 5 months later is states that I need to validate. I guess whatever was running on my system was temporary. Does anyone know that if I purchase a new product key this will solve my issue or do I have to purchase a full version? He just bought a new Canon MP480 inkjet printer and everytime he plugs it into his laptop he gets the "USB Device Not Recognized". I tested his printer and cable on my laptop (Vista Ultimate 64bit) and it IDs the printer and tries to install just fine. We're both running SP1 and I just did a double check and I we're both fully up-to-date on Windows update.I've tried uninstalling the USB hardware and then doing new install of the Intel chipset drivers.I've tried "forcing" the driver install using "driver update", but Vista just comes back and says "Driver for "unknown device" currently has the best driver confused I've tried draining the laptops power and I've tried a "driver inf cache" delete thing as well.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T60p and a Lenovo USB Webcam. I installed SP1 and the camera stopped working so I uninstalled SP1 and it still doesn't work, it appears as "Unknown device". Is Microsoft going to publish some solution? I see all the reports and there are a lot people having the same problem.Should I come back to XP?

However, Vista has suddenly started to report this has 'USB Device Not Recognized'. The hub works with XP and other USB devices work fine when plugged into the same port. I have tried deleting the infcache.1 file as suggested in other threads but no joy.

The wireless keyboard/mouse is in a USB port right next to it and that works. I even unplugged that thinking maybe it was a "power" issue.
