Anyone want a used copy of Windows Vista Ultimate? I am about ready to put this one up on eBay since Microsoft has decided not to support it as well as XP. I leave the system on overnight doing defrag. In the morning I find the screen blank and the system is unresponsive to any mouse or keyboard activity including the three finger salute. The screen saver and power saver features are turned off.

I installed an additional 4 GB of RAM... well... pulled 4GB of PC6400 and installed 8 GB of PC8500... NO BIOS or OS changes... No new software... same chipset drivers, and so on... the ONLY problem I have is NOW... when my system wakes from sleep, the network adapter is "disconnected" and has to be reset before my internet service is restored... I can not stand 8800GT's 100% fan noice , so I order AC S1 (Rev2) heatsink to replace old one, replcace is good, the noice is down, and also control the temp to 43 degree, then the story comes: I find VISTA Home P 64 SP1 Can Sleep , but when I try to wake up , the PC , CPU(Fan), Hardisk , VedioCard fan start working , but the LCD have no signal, and Wireless Keybord and mouse does not work . I change BIOS From S3 to S1 , yes, it can wake up, but I need S3 !!! I'm using a home premium on a lenovo 3000 k series 100 with a intel 2 Quad CPU. And recently, when I set it to sleep, or it goes in sleep it self, it will wake up like 30 seconds right after the sleep, even at the night! I'm so frustrated with it.
View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen I have Vista go into "Sleep" I am un-able to wake it back up. I have tried everything from moving the mouse to hitting just about every button. In the end I simply have to restart the computer. Right now I use my laptop a lot and sleep comes in handy for me. I have a 1.7 CPU, 2 GB RAM on the 32-Bit OS.
My second problem deals with the row of HP QuickPlay buttons that came stock with my dv2000 series HP Laptop. The buttons themselves work but I no longer get any kind of notification of the action. For instance when I hit the mute button it no longer turns red. I have tried updating the driver and that did not work. Any thoughts? One last thing. In my opinion the Vista "sound", "battery" and "Wireless Network" buttons on the task bar look like shit. Does any one know how to replace them?
I have upgraded my box, MB CPU and memory (have done this many times without a hitch), have been running Vista 64 bit very well. What is happening at first I thought was it was awakning from sleep on it's own, BUT what is happening is every 5 to 10 minutes, the processor comes on and does disk activity for around 2 minutes then goes back to sleep. During this the monitor is dark, and by doing my regular wake up routine, hit space bar or move the mouse, these movements do nothing and will not wake up the computer. Then, when it's finished whatever it's doing, and goes back to sleep, I can wake it normally. I've run all kinds of scans for virus and malware (OneCare Live and also PREVX Edge with both have been vey efficient in catching the baddies). I can't find any task that says it lets this happen, and don't know of anyway to log something to tell me what is happening.

It usually happens after the PC has been powered down for several hours. Today I had put it into Hibernation and then went out, and several hours later when I got home the thing was on, apparently having turned on by itself.

View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Vista 32 Bit Home Prem on Desktop and Laptop. My Home Network has Wireless Router...Desktop is hard wired to Router, Laptop is wireless. Recently configured Network to let me share Printer connected to Desktop via USB connection. The Desktop is set to sleep after 60 mins. What I didn't realize is when Desktop goes to Sleep the Network doesn't see it, and, trying to print from the Laptop to the shared printer will not work. Is there away given the configuration of my Home Network that I can Wake the Desktop from my Laptop when I want to Print from the Laptop when the Desktop has gone to Sleep? I realize I could just not let the Desktop to go into Sleep....but that defeats the Power saving feature which is important to me.

I have two monitors: (HP LP3065) & (HP w1907) I am running dual configured independently with the LP3065 as my primary display. I have a Nvidia 8800 GT card. When the computer goes to sleep the LP3065 primary monitor won't wake up. When I restart my computer the LP3065 primary monitor won't wake up. When I start the computer manually everything works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a ACER Aspire desktop. I bought it in Jan and sometime in April, it began hanging coming out of sleep. I read that MS had released a hotfix to solve this issue. Since SP1 is supposed to contain all the hotfixes, I did a full system restore updated all drivers and MS updates using windows update then windows update showed me the SP1 update and I updated my vista home premium to SP1.
The system still hangs while coming out of sleep. Sometimes it hangs after 30 minutes and sometimes 12 hours, it is very intermittent. Acer says it is a MS issue and MS has not been able to pinpoint what is causing the issue. They have me disable various things and sleep and wake up the PC after 3 mins. How does that help? It has hung even when only Kaspersky Int Sec and Vista sidebar were the only two startup items running.
I have a problem in vista 64bit: If I set up a task in the Task Scheduler and I check the "Wake the computer to run this task", the computer wakes up (from hibernate) at the specified time but the task doesn't run.

Otherwise only local network is reachable. I disabled power off of network adapter during sleep mode, Disabled IP6. I tried to install KB933872 but installation end because KB is not for my operating system.
View 7 Replies View RelatedSo, I have the X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card, and I've never had any problems with my sound. Nothing has ever acted up or anything. I've recently tore my system down, and put it back together. and now for some reason my sound is acting up. It still works, but not all the time. Also my Internet is acting up the same way also. so, everything was all good. and after rebuild Now when I put the system to sleep, when I wake it up I get a Windows message saying something about Windows something didn't respond. and my volume symbol in system tray is X'd Out. I have no sound. but if I wait about 20-30 seconds it just turns on all of a sudden, like the X-Fi is waking up slower than the computer is. But this has never happened in the past. So it works, but it's delayed. Same thing with my Internet, it's never had a problem. but now when I wake system up from sleep mode, the net doesn't work. and I hoped it would turn on like the sound does, but it doesn't. So I have to either Restart PC, or I can unplug, and replug in the Ethernet cable. then it works fine. I'm not sure why both of these items are acting up, but they have never done this is the past. Does anyone know why either of these things would be happening?

With XP / Win200 I can immediately get online after it wakes, but with Vista I have to wait -- so I'm curious to know if others have the same problem, or if there's something funky about my setup. So, if you have a sec -- it would be great if you might put yours to sleep, wake it, and then try to visit a site -- does that work right away for you, or do you have to wait too?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI pressed the circle button with the vertical lline in Vista (from pressing Start) This sent the computer to sleep or hibanate I dont know which. I cannot get the computer to come back on. The monitor remains black (no picture) and says no signal. I have deprived the computer of power. This was achieved by unplugging it from the wall, and removing the power cable also from the computer.
I have tried restarting the computer but to no avail. I have also removed the keyboard and mouse when I try starting up. I have also tried, holding in the power button and then restarting. No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc. I have read about this issue in round about ways but all of the fixes seem to rely on actually being in windows.
Recently, while taking my Vista x64 Ultimate computer out of sleep mode, a power outage occurred. When I turned my computer back on, no 32 bit applications run - not even the operating system's own services such as Windows Installer will run if they are 32-bit.
I tried typing 'firefox' in the Task Manager to see what happened. The process appeared for a moment, then was instantly killed. I don't know why. The Windows event log has been unhelpful in diagnosing the problem.
I also looked at Task manager at startup, and saw that all the * 32 processes were dying moments after Vista boots and show the desktop.
I have tried system restore, nothing worked. I tried to auto-repair my system in the windows recovery console, that didn't work either. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem short of simply reinstalling the OS, which I am reticent to do? If so, what should I do?
I have recently starting to have an annoying problem with the sleep mode.
Almost every time I use it, it shut down and then 3-5 seconds later, it "wakes up".
Anyone got any idea what could be going on?
Not sure why but when I try to open system restore I get this message: "System Protection Settings has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." I cannot make or restore my computer. If I go into system protection I get this error: C:WindowsSystem32SYSDM.CPL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support.

I have several utility software programs. I am afraid to use any of them. I am using Vista home premium 64 bit. I bought this computer back in april. after I bought it I purchased a new program called Advanced System Optimizer. When I google for information on a quality utility program this program had very high recommendations. I also have Fit-It utilities 7 and an older version of System Mechanic. My computer is running slower now and I know it needs cleaning up. The last time months ago right after I purchase Advance System Optimizer I ran the registry cleaner and it reeked havok on my system. I called the company and they told me their program I purchased was not designed for 64bit systems. Of course they didn't refund my money. Question is: My computer needs cleaning up I can tell it is running slower than it used to. What utility program is out there that will work on my system. My system is Vista Home Premium 64 bit Intel core 2 Duo 2.6 GHZ.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy wife was on the internet and suddenly System Pro popped up and started scanning warning my wife of a virus attack on her computer and wanted her to buy the AV Pgm for $49.95. She just clicked all the exits and got off of the internet and now she is locked out of her computer. We can't get system restore to work, Can't get safe mode to work, She has AVG 8 installed but cannot start it. Tried SFC /scannow but was denied access. Tried putting the Windows XP disk in to do a repair and was unable to get it to start. I think the only thing to do is reformat the HD and start over but her PC ignores the A drive and the dvd drives. I cannot get into it in order to re format it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a problem currently with Windows Vista Ultimate(Integrale), this occurred last Friday evening. I was finishing off a word document when suddenly all went black. As an end user I assumed this was a system crash and so rebooted my system, then ran registry repair, then checked for viruses etc with Live OneCare, eventually reloaded Vista all to no avail. Each time I rebooted I was greeted by a black screen after logging in.
I called my tech support who could not help but I did manage to gain access to the internet and after a short while found an item entitled Black Screen Death. This reported that all my problems where due to Microsoft thinking I had a non genuine copy of Vista it went on to explain how you could circum-navigate the problem (this I did and even though I have to repeat this process each time I log on I can use Windows normally). I purchased my copy of Vista Ulitimate from a large chain store at the not give away price of over 400 Euros and registered the same online on the day of installation and have been running for sometime with other Microsoft products including Live OneCare. Why then am I suddenly crippled for an entire weekend by Microsoft security and how can I rectify the situation perminently
I am trying to get rid of system restore shadow copies on my Vista home premium. I keep getting system error when I try to reduce the room used on my C drive as I only have 28gb of 145gb left. I have tried typing in:vssadmin list shadowstorage For the above command to run you must use elevated privileges:
1.. Click on the Start menu then click All Programs / Accessories
2.. Right Click on the Command Prompt option and from the drop down menu click on the Run as Administrator option
3.. At the command prompt type vssadmin list shadowstorage and Press Enter
(NOTE: if the command does not run change directories to c:windowssystem32) After the vssadmin has executed you will see results similar to the following:.....

The maximum space allocated for System restore is 2.092 GB To view the number of restore points you currently have on your Computer run the following command vssadmin list shadows Next, to reduce the allocated space used by Vista's System Restore, use the following command: vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=[OnVolumeSpec:] /for=[ForVolumeSpec:] /maxsize=[MaxSizeSpec] Where example: vssadmin resize shadowstorage /On=C: /For=C: /Maxsize=1GB When decreasing the space allocated to System Restore, you will loose the earlier system restore points. The advantage is gaining extra free space. If you are concerned with losing the previous restore points, wait until you do not need them anymore before reducing the allocated space. If you plan on upgrading to Windows Vista or running a clean install and will need extra space, consider reducing the space after installation has completed. It is not recommended to disable System Restore. I have a system that has FAT16 file system on it. I have that file system on that for some reason so I dont need to upgrade on that.but recently I had some files deleted and now I need to get them back. They are important for my official use and hold great importance. I know that there is software for recovery but since I have a FAT16 file system I guess that all wont work on that.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI thought I would share this with you all, a few little tricks to boost Windows performance. If you have a spare USB flash drive or you are willing to get a cheap say 1GB flash drive. First we plug in the flash drive. Go to Disk Manager and assign it a drive letter, like Z: (this is just to get it out of the way and optional). Go to Advanced system settings, Evironment variables. Change the Temp variable under User to Z: (I didn't see any point creating folders, but that's optional). Change the Temp variable under System variable to Z:
This will cut down on I/O traffic to the hard drive. Starting an app like Word, would cause the HD to read the program into memory while at the same time writing into the drive, temporary files. This causes an I/O queue to form and degrade Windows performance. By off loading some of the I/O traffic to another storage device, the hard drive read/write head doesn't have to move around as much either. All performance gains.
Another trick I tried was moving Windows Search Index to a flash drive, but it won't let me select even a 16GB flash drive. Even though the Index doesn't grow beyond 1GB. It's max size seems to be just under 1GB. You can move to it to a removable drive, though. I rebuilt the Index on an external 500GB USB drive. Again, this cuts down I/O traffic to the internal hard drive..........
