Just started two days ago, when my computer goes to sleep it has issues waking up. When I wake it up,my icons, my start menu and toolbar icons don't work until I restart it. Nothing works, but everything looks fine when looking at it. Any clues?

I can not stand 8800GT's 100% fan noice , so I order AC S1 (Rev2) heatsink to replace old one, replcace is good, the noice is down, and also control the temp to 43 degree, then the story comes: I find VISTA Home P 64 SP1 Can Sleep , but when I try to wake up , the PC , CPU(Fan), Hardisk , VedioCard fan start working , but the LCD have no signal, and Wireless Keybord and mouse does not work . I reinstall chip (MB)drivers and vedio card drivers ...still same problem. I change DELL 2407 to Philips 190P stll no siginal...
I change BIOS From S3 to S1 , yes, it can wake up, but I need S3 !!! I check the Device Manger, and find SYSTEM DEVICES -> PCI Bus Properties general say working properly, BUT resources menory range conflicts pls. see the picsorry it is Chinese ) :Powercfg /a says system support S3: I am sorry my OS is Chinese, but I can NOT find answer from China, pls. help, if you guys need transfer into English, just let me know!one more pic from DMF
Can someone tell me how to Wake my computer from Sleep Mode? When my computer goes into Sleep Mode, I can't wake it by hitting a key on the keyboard or by moving my mouse (like in XP). I have to push the power button on the computer. I've done some searches for the problem here and on Google but still can't find a good answer.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a ACER Aspire desktop. I bought it in Jan and sometime in April, it began hanging coming out of sleep. I read that MS had released a hotfix to solve this issue. Since SP1 is supposed to contain all the hotfixes, I did a full system restore updated all drivers and MS updates using windows update then windows update showed me the SP1 update and I updated my vista home premium to SP1.
The system still hangs while coming out of sleep. Sometimes it hangs after 30 minutes and sometimes 12 hours, it is very intermittent. Acer says it is a MS issue and MS has not been able to pinpoint what is causing the issue. They have me disable various things and sleep and wake up the PC after 3 mins. How does that help? It has hung even when only Kaspersky Int Sec and Vista sidebar were the only two startup items running.
So, I have the X-Fi XtremeGamer sound card, and I've never had any problems with my sound. Nothing has ever acted up or anything. I've recently tore my system down, and put it back together. and now for some reason my sound is acting up. It still works, but not all the time. Also my Internet is acting up the same way also. so, everything was all good. and after rebuild Now when I put the system to sleep, when I wake it up I get a Windows message saying something about Windows something didn't respond. and my volume symbol in system tray is X'd Out. I have no sound. but if I wait about 20-30 seconds it just turns on all of a sudden, like the X-Fi is waking up slower than the computer is. But this has never happened in the past. So it works, but it's delayed. Same thing with my Internet, it's never had a problem. but now when I wake system up from sleep mode, the net doesn't work. and I hoped it would turn on like the sound does, but it doesn't. So I have to either Restart PC, or I can unplug, and replug in the Ethernet cable. then it works fine. I'm not sure why both of these items are acting up, but they have never done this is the past. Does anyone know why either of these things would be happening?
View 6 Replies View RelatedIf you put your Vista PC (I'm on a laptop) to sleep, then wake it, and (right after it wakes) try to visit a Web site -- does it take a little while before that works for you? With XP / Win200 I can immediately get online after it wakes, but with Vista I have to wait -- so I'm curious to know if others have the same problem, or if there's something funky about my setup. So, if you have a sec -- it would be great if you might put yours to sleep, wake it, and then try to visit a site -- does that work right away for you, or do you have to wait too?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI pressed the circle button with the vertical lline in Vista (from pressing Start) This sent the computer to sleep or hibanate I dont know which. I cannot get the computer to come back on. The monitor remains black (no picture) and says no signal. I have deprived the computer of power. This was achieved by unplugging it from the wall, and removing the power cable also from the computer.
I have tried restarting the computer but to no avail. I have also removed the keyboard and mouse when I try starting up. I have also tried, holding in the power button and then restarting. No matter what I try still no joy. No signal on the monitor. The lights in all cases come on, on the base unit and I can hear fans spinning etc. I have read about this issue in round about ways but all of the fixes seem to rely on actually being in windows.
I have recently starting to have an annoying problem with the sleep mode.
Almost every time I use it, it shut down and then 3-5 seconds later, it "wakes up".
Anyone got any idea what could be going on?
I've disabled the power/sleep button in the start menu a while ago to prevent my children from shutting down the computer. Now they are older and I want to get them to put the computer to sleep when they are not using it. Unfortunately, I can not remember how I disabled the power button. There are no group policies set and I couldn't find any settings on the registry (as suggested in your tutorials Power Button and Shutdown Options - Start Menu).

View 9 Replies View RelatedRecently i installed Vista x64 Ultimate and as i remember in startall programs there are two icons of internet explorer (32 and 64 bit) and WMP icon. Now that icons are gone. Is that because Opera is my default browser and Gom and winamp are default media players? Of course i think that this is not problem. I remeber that i deleted that icons from quick lunch but deleting them from quick lunch doesn't mean deleting tham from start menu, right? Wmp and IE can be started directly by typing wmplayer and iexplore in search but i want that icons back in startall programs!

View 7 Replies View Relatedmy computer its nothing serious its just annoying and i want to fix it. the icons on the right side of the Start menu are now shown as folders and not the fancy one and i miss that, i was wondering if i can change them back? this all started a few days ago i think i caused it by doing something with CMD and some files showed up and i was deleting alot of them cause they looked like they were unnessasary, i think i deleted something that shouldnt of been deleted. now im just trying to figure out how to fix it with using system restore because i dont have the a restore point to fix that problem my restore points are deleted.

It can take over one minute; however, if closing the menu and coming back, I find the folder I tried to open already open; if I try to open one of its sufolders, the same happens again with the subfolder.
I've read the tutorial at Menu Show Delay Time, but that method doesn't solve my case.
I don't know if there is any coincidence, but when this problem appeared all programs started to stop responding from time to time, more often Firefox.
I have been having trouble with my computer sleeping. I had just upgraded to Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit from Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. In 32 bit, sleep worked fine and there were no issues with sleep. I installed 64 bit to (mostly) take advantage of all 4 gb of my RAM. Now, I have all the latest drivers and everything is *almost* back to normal (sleep and TV tuner (Aver Volar) don't work). Now some of the sleep options in the control panel's power sleep applet are gone and when I make my compuer go into sleep, my computer will always resume with corrupt video (very many white lines all over the screen) and corrupt sound/audio (static sounding).
View 4 Replies View RelatedBecause my computer goes to sleep but will not wake (I talked about this before -- don't want to go over that again -- nothing works), I've been leaving it on all the time. I don't trust hypernation, since the sleep mode doesn't work properly. This problem may be caused by surges/glitches occuring via the cable modem (altho I really don't know what is causing it). This morning I worked on it for bout 1/2 a hour (it was working fine) but I came back a couple hours later to a frozen comp that I had to force boot via the surge protector (could not turn it off any other way). Luckily, I have Acronis backup which has saved this machine two times now within 4 months. I was able to boot using the Acronis rescue disk and restored a backup. is there any reason why I should not shut down everynite or when I am away from the machine for any length of time? I know shutdown is not recommended because Vista does things on its own like update programs such as Defender and Norton ISecurity (I turned off the auto d/l and install feature in windows -- I want to see what it plans to d/l and install, etc.) but I can do all the updates manually.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI redirected my Documents folder to my home drive, and it worked for a month or so. Somehow I lost access to that drive, and although it was corrected fairly quickly, now when I click on the Documents link under the Start Menu, nothing happens. No error, it just doesn't open. When I right click the Start Menu Documents icon and go to Properties, there is no information listed there. It is just all blank showing 0 bytes.
When I go to my profile, it shows a regular folder for Documents, not the fancy new Documents icon used in Vista. When I open this folder it opens my local Documents directory, but there is nothing there (since everything was being kept on the network drive). When I right-click this folder, it opens and the location on the local drive C:usersame, and it has the following tabs: General, Sharing, Security, Previous Versions, and Customize. The Location tab is missing so I can't redirect the folder back to the network drive. I did go to the Start Menu properties and remove, then add back the Documents link, but that didn't help. I enabled and disabled User Access Control and that didn't help. I even did a System Restore of the system to last week before this problem started,

I found some help on how to create a shortcut by right clicking screen and selecting new and so on, then type in some code and then change icon picture if I wanted to. That a long an drawn out process. I can drag and drop anything else but nothing from the notification area. Odd.....
View 4 Replies View RelatedOffice 07 shortcuts from the start menu no longer work. Nothing happens when you click on them - the start menu stays open. Also, the icons of the shortcuts have turned into just a paper icon.
I should also note that even the icons on the documents have changed. Though, when I double click on documents, they still open the corresponding program. Another way I can open the programs is by going into the Program Files. I have searched with Google with only a handful of people having my problem, though their thread isn't answered.
I really need some software like this. I used one on XP but it does not work in Vista. The icons are wildely dancing around my desktop every time I do something with the sidebar or switch from the full screen game. Change resolution or such and It is really annoying They often even get under the sidebar so I cannot use them...
View 4 Replies View RelatedI don't know what happened here, but my shortcut that points to the snipping tool turned into one of those generic icons - and it says that it can't find C:WindowsSystem32SnippingTool.exe. Sure enough, a check of System32 shows it's not there. I didn't go in there. so I have no idea what happened here. It's not in the recycle bin either, so it didn't get accidentally deleted, at least not recently. So, is it as simple as grabbing a copy of SnippingTool.exe from another installation and pasting it into System32? Any risk in this (aside from it not working if there were some dependencies that are also gone?) If that doesn't work does sfc restore this?
