Security/Administrator Won't Allow Trans File

Dec 1, 2007

I bought this new computer with Vista (expensive too!) and now I can't do the thing I love best with my computer. I play Sims 1 and I use PSP 7 to recolor and recreate objects and I have a program that transfers the objects from the Sims game to my PSP 7 program called Transmogrifier. The way it works is that when you are finished working on you iff object in PSP 7 you transfer it back to the Sims game via this Transmog program. The object is coming back to the Transmog but not appearing the game. There is a folder in the download section of the Sims game called "transmogrified" and the objects are supposed to go directly into it when I import the object. It's not happening. The only thing I can figure is it must be the administrator/security issue that won't allow the Transmog to put a file into the Sims folder. How can I get around it? The computer will collect dust if I can't contiinue with my hobby.

Open File - Security Warning On .exe Files

Mar 23, 2008

I get this annoying warning when I open and .exe file. The warning gives me the option to deselect the 'always ask when opeing this file', but it reappears the next time I open the file and the warning is reselected even though I already deselected it. The warning has a help link on the bottom ' how can I decide what software to run' and all the help links talk about is downloading which has nothing to do with this warning dialog box. How do I get rid of this annoying security warning on this file. If I go to properties for the file, there is an unblock option which I select and apply, but it too reappears the next time I open the file properties.

Delete File And Folders UAC Messages "administrator Rights"

Nov 12, 2009

I restored my vista OS using a system image utility provided by Alienware. It created a backup folder on the c drive with all the old files in it, including user profiles. I changed the owner of all files and folders back to my account and tried to delete it, but got the UAC messages that I need to allow administrator rights to do so. After clicking yes, I got a message that permission was denied with the only options of "Try Again" or "Cancel". After making visible all hidden files and folders, I was able to drill down to the one file I could not delete. I've used the "take ownership" steps in Vista explorer properties, and also the "takeown" dos commands, which report success that the Administrators group or my account which belongs to the administrators group, is the owner of the file, and that I have full control of it. Even so, I cannot delete this file. In DOS, I get access denied. In Explorer, I get the "you need permission to perform this action" message, with "try again" or "cancel", and it shows that my account (or administrators group, doing it that way) is the owner. It's just this one file. I was able to delete all other files and folders around this file, but just not this one.

I wonder if the folder path is so long or so nested that UAC fails to figure it out? It was in users\appdata
oamingetc. Or is the file corrupt? The file is a tempory file created by one of those biometric devices when logged on with your fingerprint, and is supposed to disappear when you log off, but it seems to have remained there because of a hard boot. Is there a utility I can use that can nuke this one lone file?

How To Disable Open File - Security Warning Dialog Box In Windows?

May 24, 2008

Every time I want to open a .url file using the customized Links menu on the deskbar (channel bar), I get a dialog box with a security warning message "Do you want to open this file?" How do I disable this security warning dialog box from popping up? I am confident my Avast! virus definitions will detect and intercept any virus or spyware attached to any url before the file is opened, so I really don't need this feature, it is annoying.

Copy/backup My Files Says ; "You'll Need To Provide Administrator Permission To Copy To This File."

May 1, 2008

My old Windows XP PC died months ago (motherboard problems) and so I took out the hard drive (which still functions fine) and put it in my new PC, but I can't seem to copy any of my files in the My Documents folder from the old drive to my newer larger drive. I've had this drive in here for the last several months and have had no problems writing other files to this 'older' drive (250 gig Maxtor 16mb cache, 7,200RPM drive (btw it's only a year old), but when I try to copy files to another drive I get the following error message: "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this file." This only happens with files that are in the My Documents folder. My current login has administrator rights, so I'm thinking some how this has something to do with this drive being from a different computer's installation of XP.

Hyperlink: "File Download Security Warning"

Jul 29, 2009

In the last few days, when I have clicked on certain links, a Window opens headed "File Download Security Warning". It says underneath: "Do you want to save this file or find a program online to open it?" The name of the file is stated, and is said to be of the type "Unknown Filetype".

Below that there are buttons offering "Find", "Save" and not surprisingly "Cancel". If you click on "Find" a Window opens headed "Windows File Association" This says the file is "MIME Type: Application/x-gzip-compressed." None of this is normal, so I used System Restore to go back three days. This seems to have cured most of the errant links, but not all. The problem remains. When you click on a link, you should go to that link, right?

Windows Defender Or Manage Windows Start Up Programs Window Comes Up Saying "contact Administrator" Administrator

We're on a network and all the pcs only have one user and therefore I am administrator of all. One pc now won't let me access stuff. When I try and go into Windows defender or Manage windows start up programs, a window comes up saying "contact Administrator". ?? Can't access folder options either. There's a virus on it (darn kids) which I'm trying to get rid of (despite having McAfee, Windows defender, Ad-Aware and Stinger). Could it be the virus causing this? which is hard of course to get rid of if I can't have any access to security files.

Run As Administrator

Mar 23, 2008

I have tried reading the other help questions on this and tried doing some of
the answers with no success.

All my windows updates are failing. I'm being told I have to be the
administrator to go in and delete corrupted logs/ etc. I am the
administrator on this computer but I did not set up any password. Most
common windows update error is Windows Update error 8007000b.

When I have the command prompt up it shows users
ose. I have tried right
clicking and do not get administrator in the drop down menu. I type in
fsutil resource setautoreset true C:. and an reply comes back that I must
run it as a administator. I have also tried keying this in just at the c:
prompt. I see that I am the administrator of the computer so is that why I
do not get the drop menu on the right click to show administrator?

The other problem I have is I can't get manual defrag to work. I just
erased 11 gigs out of my recycle bin and wanted to run defrag. I'm almost
ready to go out and buy a 3rd party defrag..

Ran Sfc /scannow As An Administrator

May 13, 2009

Ran sfc /scannow as an administrator. Received the following message when it finished. Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.log, etc. Copied the CBS.log to my desktop and opened it. It was quite large so I deleted all entries except those made today. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but there didn't appear to be any anomalies. The last two lines in the log were:

2009-05-13 09:18:11, Info CSI 000001cd [SR] Verify and Repair Transaction completed. All files and registry keys listed in this transaction have been successfully repaired. 2009-05-13 09:19:45, Info CBS Scavenge: Package store indicates there is no component to scavenge, skipping. These two lines seem to be saying that all is well and that it was not necessary to find any replacement files.

What Is The Administrator Password?

Mar 19, 2010

I have heard of the "administrator password" for a super-administrator.

But I have never "set" the "administrator password" or "super admin
password".

I do, however, have a user account with admin privileges that I set a
password to.

Is that the same thing? Does my creating a user account with admin
privileges and password make the password for the super-admin the same, or
will the vista admin password still remain blank?

I'm wondering if this is the case, if a hacker tried to break into my system
to grab files, if I never set the administrator/super-admin password, does
that mean there is none, and they just walk right in,

or does it default to the password I have on my user account with admin
privileges?
