Mar 4, 2008I have this weird thing happening to my frames in-game. In CS 1.6, the net graph shows that I am getting 100fps constant, but the actual gameplay looks more like it is forced at 60 or 70. It looks choppy even though I'm pinned at 100 frames. Also, Source appears the same way, while I am getting 135+ fps it's still choppy and appears to be forced at a lower refresh rate. I already did the common stuff, downloading the hotfixes, forcing off refresh rates in the NVIDIA console, putting in command line parameters (for 1.6 [-freq 100]), setting fps_max to 101; all of it. After all this it still looks like a forced 60 frames and will not smooth out (even though it says that it's 100).

Mar 8, 2010As I continue to test the network speed I am truly baffled. My local area connection shows 1.0Gbps. The computer on the other end shows the same but when I go to download to the other computer I get speeds between 16-20 MB/s. I know there are many variables but holy cow. What can I do? My problem is still that there seems to be a problem between my one computer running vista 64bit and windows xp pro on the other one. I have enabled jumbo frames and nothing changes. The computer is an AMD quad core computer 4400+. That should be able to handle what I was feeding it. I changed hdd and that did not make a difference except to give me my needed space for the computer I was needing. The gig lan is a built in lan to the mobod of the computer. I don't have a NAS yet as I tried one but it was not very good. Would buying a pci lan card be the way to go for this computer as I will use it for alternative backups etc. Could a new nic card in each computer maybe make a difference? The cards would be exactly the same. The one mobod is around 6 years old the other maybe 4. The lan that I have are on the mobod. Just a thought.

Jul 29, 2009I have been dual booting Vista and XP for a couple of years. I have never been a fan of Vista but installed it so I could learn my way around since I work on other people's computers.. A couple of weeks ago I added Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100). Unfortunately, a major problem I've always had in Vista is still there in Windows 7. My problem is jerky video playback, frames freezing momentarily. It doesn't seem to matter what format the video is in or what player I'm using. It also occurs when watching TV. Interestingly enough, I can record TV in Vista (even while it's jumping) and if I go back into XP to play it, ity plays flawlessly.
I originally had Vista Home Premium 32 bit, but upgraded it to 64 bit a few months ago. I had hoped that would cure the problem but it made no difference. I have spent days googling and find all kinds of people who have had the same problem but no one has a cure. Needless to say, I have the latest drivers direct from the NVidia site installed. My video "experience index" is 5.8. That's up from 5.2 a couple of days ago when I upgraded from a 7600 GT to a 9800 GT. (Which made no difference either).
I have tried various "tweaks" to no avail. I've tried with Aero turned off. In WIndows 7 I turned off the "gadget" service. To no avail. Surely as much as this problem is talked about someone has come up with an answer. If they have, I haven't run across it yet.
Install :: Oading Files Screen And Then Screen In Getting Black
Mar 24, 2008I am building a new system and have a new copy of Vista Home Premium 32bit.
I got it all put together and tried to load Vista. It got to the Windows is loading files screen and then screen in getting black video. Keyboad and mouse stopped working at times. So I updated the board BIO's per intel through iso image and same thing. So I tried installing XP and got to the F8 screen to accept lic. and it just reboots everytime.
Any ideas why Vista would stop? Added the info about the XP install so it may help.

Windows7: Screen To Sleep And There Is No Screen Saver Setup
Nov 24, 2009I know this is a Vista news group but I haven't been able to find a Windows 7 group so maybe one of you guys can answer my question. I have the power settings to never put computer or screen to sleep and there is no screen saver setup. When I leave my computer alone for awhile the screen goes black. This never happened with Vista when setup this way why is Windows 7 doing this?

Sep 29, 2008Something very odd happened today. I was as usual loading a large file ( 5.4gb ) in to Photoshop and as PS was doing it's business I noticed everything jumped over to my second monitor and the main monitor went blank. Moments later the image on the second monitor turned into a garbled fragmented mess before going into power save mode from which I couldn't get out of. Very strange.....Forced a warm boot. As the system had just been turned on so I can sort of rule out a heat issue - possibly & ram test OK. My workstation is mainly off line but two days ago I had to ftp something and I do remember vista installing an automatic update for windows update (without my permission) which I was very annoyed about, shame on you MS.....and after rebooting I saw a few reg. modifications come up on screen. Could this be the cause of this odd behavior. It's been fine since I had the warm boot - any ideas as to what's going on.

Feb 1, 2009I've had voltage issues causing my computer to freeze or reboot during games and dvds. Fixed that and the computer was fine after memtest showing no problems. That was late Dec.
A few days ago, the computer would go to a blue screen saying it's dumping physical memory and then automatically reboots. Thinking my harddisk might be collapsing on me (I have a seagate barracuda 7200.11 500Gb HD with the SD15 firmware, the infamous crash friendly HD), I flash the HD with the SD1A firmware from seagate, then it was fine. 2days later, Catalyst started to cause problems by not responding, so I formated the drive and reinstalled vista ultimate, along with Catalyst, drivers from Mobo manufacturer ASUS, plus a couple of other softwares. That was yesterday, and now I'm getting the same blue screen back, or the computer just freezes.

I have loaded the above programs for my son and when they a running the screen is not centred and the is a black bar to the right of the screen approx 3 cm wide. May 2, 2009I am having a very wierd issue with vista's screen saver. So basically when I leave the comp idle it goes into screen saver then turns off the monitor after 15 mins. Sometimes, more often than not, I come back and move the mouse and hit a few keys on the keyboard and nothing. The monitor wont come out of standby I try turning it off and back on, and nothing. I have the latest drivers for everything in my system and I checked the power management settings and they both are able to wake the computer up. I have a G15 keyboard and I keep the leds on and when this happens the leds are off and the lazer for the mouse is off too.

Should Not Black Screen Full Screen Mode
Oct 5, 2009Why do I get black picture after I have pressed PrtSc button? Of course it shouldn't be black and it happens only when the screen is on full screen mode (for an example videos, games etc.). Feb 5, 2010I've had pretty good luck with vista so far but every so often it will blue screen on me and I cant figure out why. The scenario is
1. System startup from power off condition
2. System boots to login screen
3. Blue screen referencing processor timing or something
I have not overclocked or anything everything is vanilla. I would also note that I run hardware diagnostics utilities and it seems fine. Also, I never get the message about abnormal system termination like ususal. How can I get a clue as to what is going on here. So far it seems like the error is bogus, I can log in and the machine will run for days with no problem.

Working beautifully for many months, and then a few
weeks ago this began happening:
Perhaps 2-3 times a week, and with no consistency of circumstances, a blue screen will appear. It might happen while working or when returning from hibernate. There's a countdown as memory is stored, and then a freeze. The only way to recover is to do a hard OFF (5 seconds on the power switch) and restart. When it first happened, I had not installed or changed anything, so I was comfortable doing a restore. It happened again.
It's confusing because the stated cause is inconsistent. I've checked to ensure that all drivers are updated and nothing that's contraVistarian is installed. What analytical steps can I undertake to discover what's causing this, and then to help me make the necessary changes?

We tried to go into the safe mode but the only screen we get is his password sign on screen. Even during boot we pressed f8 key but the password screen came up. He is hoping someone has an idea or answer so he can avoid taking it into get looked at and paying money.

Jun 2, 2008I was on my pc the other day and I was starting up COD2 and just like that, windows went down and I got this blue screen saying windows had been shut down to prevent damage or something. After that the pc rebooted and everything was fine, except for some flickering of the screen sometimes which I knew wasn't good. Yesterday I booted my pc and the same thing happened when I started COD2. Today my pc didn't even boot anymore, right after the IDE screen (black and white) the blue screen popped up showing the same message and the pc shut down. Only safe mode will work. Can this have anything to do with CPU instability or overheating?

Can Bypass The First Screen?
Sep 19, 2009When I boot my Vista laptop, the first screen that appears is a blueish screen with a single square box in the middle that contains an orange flower. Underneath that orange box is my user name. I have to click that orange box to get the 2nd screen that contains the password text box.
For a single user, the first screen is not necessary and just requires an extra mouse click. I want to bypass that screen and have the password entry screen be the first screen to appear. Is there any trick to do that? I do want to retain the password screen in case someone steals my laptop.

My friend's son was using my laptop to write up a research report for class and decided to go -exploring- in the system32 folder. He said all he did was move an authui file?
