I'm pretty new to sysprep. I'm looking to run a task AS sysprep finishes, but before a user logs in. Basically I would like to make a web service call from a .vbs file to announce that the computer has finished sysprepping. I want the time to be as accurate as possible. If I run this in the specalize pass, it's too early since sysprep still has a lot to finish. In the OOBE step, it's too late since it requires a user to login.
View 5 RepliesRight now I have 52, CPU usage hovers around 5-15, phisical memory 21%. I have 2 terabites of memory, mostly music software for composition. 1 terabite is being used, theres still well over 500 gigs of free space. I have like 13 svchose.exes running, 6 avgs, and a bunch of other crap Ive never heard of. Searching these in google doenst really do anything, I mean it tells me what it is kind of, but Im still afraid to mess with it. If this computer goes I'm ruined. I dont want to uninstall anyting or make a music application not run for some reason. I've ran spybot and avg full edition, encase it was a spyware issue. Would taking it in to a PC shop solve the problem? Or will they remove something valuable, accidentally. Perfomance is still excellent, but 52 processes,

my computer shut down for some reason but is back up and running but now my volume icon on the task bar is gone. How do i get it back on. When I right click on the taskbar and open up start menu options under the system options the volume box is grey out and I am unable to check it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI've been reading a lot in the forum lately but now I have to post as well...I've been trying to get the old Task Scheduler (at.exe) running on Vista Enterprise to have scheduled jobs run indefinitively. Right now, I add a process via e.g.$> at 15:00 notepad.exe The job will start fine on the chosen time but will cease to run after 3 days (72 hours), killed by Vista/Task Scheduler. A look via Start -> All Programs -> Accessoires -> System Tools -> Task Scheduler reveals, that a flag is set "Stop the task if it runs longer than" to "3 days".
Googling for help, I found a KB entry from Microsoft, how to change the default ehaviour via a registry edit (A Task That Is Scheduled with the AT Command May Stop After 72 Hours Win XP/2000). This didn't do the trick on Vista Enterprise altough the registry section exists with the required parameter "AtTaskMaxHours"). Has anyone encountered similar issues on Vista or has anyone been able to overrule the default behaviour from 3 days to an "endless" job run?
Utorrent keeps not responding after like 3 hours of running. I close it but it the task manager, it says its still running with *32 next to it. So does IE when I close that. They close visualy, but they dont close in the task manager and keep running. I cant open a new Utorrent because it says its still running. I havto keep restarting my computer. Its a new computer (only like a week old) so WTF do I do? I have the 64 bit vista. Looks as tho no 32 bit program gets terminated (or atleast the ones with the *32 next to them. WTF do I do?
View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Xp when I used the task manger it told me how much CPU is being used. this was very helpful because if one particular process was taking up to much power I ended task.
Yet in Vista x32, even when the cpu is going at full pelt, it only register a few % on the odd program. Something is running, but I do not know what. This has been an ongoing problem for years, and I have installed and reinstalled, and run ant viuses and malware and root kits. Yet when running fully loaded, it never shows what is running, even when showing all users.
My laptop is a Dell inspiron 1720.
I would be grateful if somebody could shed so light on this upgrade from Xp.
After installing the new 8.12 ATI drivers i cant start Catalyst Control Centre. I can see it running in task manager but it just wont show on the screen. This has happened with previous drivers and i had to re-install CCC few times for it to work.

I have created a Vista Enterprise x86 image several times and tried tosysprep it. I used the 'sysprep /oobe /generalize' command. When thecomputer boots after I have syspreped it I get a black screen that says'Setting up your computer' or somthing similar. It then displays thevista background and says 'Please wait while Windows continues settingup your computer'. The machine then reboots and the green loading bar shows for a second and reboots. The machine is then stuck in a reboot loop. Not even safe mode or Last known good config will let the machineboot.lso I had several days of pain trying to get the vista to sysprep at all. My vLite SP! slipstreamed disc didn't allow syspreping and erroredout. I had to install vista and manually install the SP1.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have spent several hours setting up a Vista machine. On it I had the Adminstrator account enabled and a standard user account. I took a backup, using the standard Vista backup, of the machine prior to sysprep. I also took a ghost image once the machine had syspreped and shut down. On reboot it appears the Administrator account has disabled itself which I realise is the default state for the account. I therefore have no admin account live on this machine. Does anyone know if there is a way to re enable this account if there is no other administrator account active, or could I use the MS backup that I took prior to disabling to restore it back to it's pre sysprep state.

When run sysprep with this command "sysprep /oobe /generalize /unattend:unattend.xml" it will auto delete all drivers installed on vista. The things there are i want to make 1 image Vista Bussiness installed drivers, default enabled administrator account (normally when run sysprep it will disabled administrator account).

The scheduler history states it started, action completed with an error code 16 (don't know what this means) and task successfully completed? But I do not think it is actually executing the bat file.

I have a system in which the Task Bar is missing - but the start button is there - only the bar is missing - or you can say i cannot see it.
What will be the Fix for it.
I don't see my sound mixer / aim icons or any other icons anymore in the start bar.
I do see the clock & date, normally under that i saw for example the icon for external drives, processes, my virus scanner, etc. but they are gone now.
First my taskmanager was disabled, but i got it to work with the tutorial here on the forum. But still no icons.
Is there anyone that could help me getting back my icons?

I wish to run a task (to dismount a network hard drive) whenever shutting down. I have noticed that the Task Scheduler has a trigger called, 'On local disconnect from any user session'. I have setup a task based on this trigger, but it doesn't execute when I do a shutdown.
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust about 1-2 weeks ago i was sitting comfortably in my living room gaming away when i noticed the game i was playing started having problems. In the mist of playing my keyboard locks up and mouse freezes and i can't move my character at all. I can't even alt+tab to task manager to fix the problem. I noticed the windows vista error sound play and then a few seconds later the game resumes normally.
I thought it was the particular game, but when i ditched it and started playing navyfield i noticed the same problem occurring there.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? I was thinking driver related problems or possible graphics since the problem never occurs outside of gaming. When the problem happens the green lights for numb lock etc.. quickly off and on. I have disabled trusted installer thinking it was lag durring game and that cause the information to pause....I have recently reformated my hard drived with the disk that came with the computer and did a full installation of windows updates.

This is a hidden file in the folder (user)/AppData / Local. To resolve this issue, I did the following:
1. Start task manager.
2. Right-click the file in task manager
3. Select the option gOpen containing folderh.
4. Close task manager.........
I'm trying to back up my file, but in the process I was asked to start the task scheduler. when I do start the task scheduler, I get the following message: Task Scheduler is not available. Verify that the service is running.! I tried command prompt as well but I get nothing.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista home premium and IE8. I connect to the internet with dial-up. When I'm connected the computer icon in the task bar has a red X on it. If I place the cursor on the icon it says "not Connected". If I right click on the icon and select connect to network the window comes up and shows my connection and states that I'm connected with the option button to disconnect. Why does my system think I'm not connected. Also before when I would close IE I would receive a window asking if I want to disconnect. I no longer get that window either. Having dial-up this is a pain do to the phone line being tied up and sometimes not knowing it.

I don't see the file in any startup place in Vista Basic or in the Startup folder in my Start Menu.
I can't find it in Scheduled Tasks.
Is there anywhere else I might look to disable this annoying service?
