Can't Find Scheduled Task
Dec 5, 2009
Even though I have the Google Update Service disabled in services it still shows in Task Manager's Processes tab and appears to be running.
I don't see the file in any startup place in Vista Basic or in the Startup folder in my Start Menu.
I can't find it in Scheduled Tasks.
Is there anywhere else I might look to disable this annoying service?

I have a bat file that runs without errors on the command line. Uses robocopy to back up document drectory. The scheduler history states it started, action completed with an error code 16 (don't know what this means) and task successfully completed? But I do not think it is actually executing the bat file.

I am creating simple on a schedule (one time only) tasks which run fine if the time trigger is reached whilst the computer is on and I'm logged in, but fail to run if the computer is shutdown or asleep when the trigger time is reached, even with "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed" checked. I am aware that missed scheduled tasks aren't ran immediately on start-up (10 min delay?) but they never run. There are no events regarding the tasks in event log and the last run status is "Never" so they just don't seem to be picked up as missed tasks.
I have unchecked all the idle/power options so the task should run whatever. I have tried checking the "Run with highest privileges" box and checking "Run when user is logged on" or "Run whether user is logged on or not" The tasks will run manually fine if I select run from "actions". At the moment I'm just trying to get a one-time scheduled task to display a message so I'm not trying anything fancy. Setting the task to run at logon or startup works fine. The system time/date is set Ok. A Google search revealed one guy with a similar problem but no solution. This is Vista HP sp2 with all important updates applied - running on an acer aspire laptop. A friends Samsung with the same Vista setup also shows this behaviour.

If you change the name of your computer (under Control PanelSystem and MaintenanceSystem), then the scheduled task that Windows Calendar has will NOT be updated with the new name of the computer. The result is that this scheduled task does not run properly when it is supposed to, and when you open up the Task Scheduler, you get an error popping up in Task Scheduler:
"An error has ocurred for the task Reminders - {User Name}. Error message: The specified account name is not valid."
Where {User Name} is your user name.

Some program has started to use a lot of CPU cycles during idle. I have a q6600 processor. My logitech g15 keyboard LCD display is showing core 2 (0,1,2,3) to be running constantly at 20-40%. This is unusual. There is very little hard-drive use occurring. I've been running Vista Ultimate x64 since October. This is new behavior. I tried using task manager to find the culprit. That didn't work. This process seems to be preventing the computer from entering sleep mode. How do I find out what's running up my cpu usage? (If I can find it, I assume I can shut it down!)

I have read all of the search-engine hits I can find, and they all seem to point to the fact that you can't run scheduled tasks in Vista Home Premium using a regular username even when you supply the correct password. Vista forgets the password and gives the error "2147943726 (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password)" whenever it tries to run a scheduled task (scheduled at the same time every day) after the computer is rebooted.
For my task -- a backup program to a network disk -- I can't use the "Do not store password. The task will only have access to local computer resources" checkbox, since the task needs access to the network disk. And the "run with highest privileges" checkbox doesn't have any effect. I still get the "Logon failure" message when the task tries to run after I reboot. None of the discussions I have found by searching the 'net actually have a solution.

In Unix there are services called cron jobs which basically are nothing more than processes scheduled to run routinely every so often. I think these are called
scheduled tasks. So how do I set up a scheduled task under Windows Vista Home Premium so that for instance every day around 11:30 PM my laptop powers off whenever I have left it switched on (so that it does not wake up anybody in the middle of the night which has been happening to me).

When I open task scheduler a pop up says "an error has occurred for task MCVsurveyReminder4 Error message the specified name is not vailid.". It repeats 4 time when i click OK and is followed by 4 of "an error has occurred for task MCVregistrationReminder4 Error message the specified name is not vailid". And finally by "an error occurred for task reminders - username Error message the specified account name is not valid"
I think it is something to do with a task to register my vaio or take part in a survey but I cannot get rid. It is in task scheduler local and there is no delete. I found a similar situation on the vaio site but cannot find now.Found it http://club.vaio.sony.eu/clubvaio/gb...7&lastpage=yes

I have a simple text file with a certain word in it. I try to find this text file, but vista won't find it. Windows 2000, linked by network, finds it within a second.
I have tried all available options.
"include non-indexed"
"always search file names and contents"
"find partial matches"
"include subfolders"
etc
etc
It just doesn't work. Why is there not a simple search function that actually works like in windows2000? I am using Vista Ultimate 64 bit. But not having a working search function doesn't look that "ultimate" to me.

I'm using Vista Home Premium - I generally use Outlook 2007 for my e-mail and organising but recently went to Windows Mail to find a Newsgroup (unavailable in Outlook). However, no Newgroups were visible. Unable to find a way to find them I clicked on "Help" and the advice includes "Click the Tools menu, and then click Newsgroups." However, there is no "Newsgroups" option in the Tools menu that displays. The Windows Mail I have is version 6.0.6000....

I don't see my sound mixer / aim icons or any other icons anymore in the start bar.
I do see the clock & date, normally under that i saw for example the icon for external drives, processes, my virus scanner, etc. but they are gone now.
First my taskmanager was disabled, but i got it to work with the tutorial here on the forum. But still no icons.
Is there anyone that could help me getting back my icons?

I have been trying to figure out how to create a task in Task Scheduler.
I would like my machine to create a restore point daily. I am ok until the
Actions dialog.
Quote: When you create a task, you must specify the action that will occur when your task starts. Am I correct in assuming that I can create a task that will create a restore point
on a daily schedule for me?
As y'all are aware it wants me to specify the name of the program I want it to run.
I have no idea of the name of the program that creates restore points.
And I have no idea where to find the name.
I have been using this tutorial but I need the name of the program.

Just about 1-2 weeks ago i was sitting comfortably in my living room gaming away when i noticed the game i was playing started having problems. In the mist of playing my keyboard locks up and mouse freezes and i can't move my character at all. I can't even alt+tab to task manager to fix the problem. I noticed the windows vista error sound play and then a few seconds later the game resumes normally.
I thought it was the particular game, but when i ditched it and started playing navyfield i noticed the same problem occurring there.
Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem? I was thinking driver related problems or possible graphics since the problem never occurs outside of gaming. When the problem happens the green lights for numb lock etc.. quickly off and on. I have disabled trusted installer thinking it was lag durring game and that cause the information to pause....I have recently reformated my hard drived with the disk that came with the computer and did a full installation of windows updates.

the infamous fake "Vista atnivirus 2010" somehow got into my system, with its unstopable topups that would never end until I did this. the program was av.exe, and is indicated in task manager as gav.exe *32. This is a hidden file in the folder (user)/AppData / Local. To resolve this issue, I did the following:
1. Start task manager.
2. Right-click the file in task manager
3. Select the option gOpen containing folderh.
4. Close task manager.........

I want to automatically log off user after idle for 10 minutes. The problem appears to be that Vista won't go into an idle state. Lots of stuff running in background, and even my time clock on desktop I suppose keeps the PC from not idling.

I'm running Vista home premium and IE8. I connect to the internet with dial-up. When I'm connected the computer icon in the task bar has a red X on it. If I place the cursor on the icon it says "not Connected". If I right click on the icon and select connect to network the window comes up and shows my connection and states that I'm connected with the option button to disconnect. Why does my system think I'm not connected. Also before when I would close IE I would receive a window asking if I want to disconnect. I no longer get that window either. Having dial-up this is a pain do to the phone line being tied up and sometimes not knowing it.

How do I get Task manager to work? It doesn't shut down frozen (non responding) programs including WindowsMail, IE7 or MozillaFF... all of which "stop responding" constantly. We're all getting sick and tired of having to reboot to get anything done online. I can't find any infections on this PC which has WDefender, Avast, Spybot, Adaware, A-Squared and ZoneAlarm. We ran all these programs, updated, several times and no viruses or other crapware was found. This Vista Home Premium is less stable than the old W98 we recently gave away. In fact we had less problems with W98 than we're having with Vista.

I have a vbs script that I use to copy files from my local drive to a network drive as a backup. The script works fine on its own (by double-clicking it or by running it from the command prompt). I created a scheduled task to have it run automatically, but it doesn't seem to work. It says that it completed successfully, but it didn't really do anything. Even if I select it in the Task Scheduler and then click "Run" in the Actions pane, it says it's status is "Running", but nothing is happening.

When I click on Updater.exe it tells me that an unidentified program wants access to my computer. Since it's unidentified, I don't know if I want it or not, so I've always denied it. But to have this happen about every 20 minutes if very annoying.
How can I find out what the program is and/or to stop the updater from flashing so
often?

This morning,I opened up the Task Manager and noticed that there are no longer any options such as Applications,Processes,Services,Performance,Networking, and User(thosetabs are no longer available).
In addition File,Options,View,Windows, and Help at the top hasdisappeared also.
Also, the minimize, maximize, and close out buttons have disappeared inthe upper right hand corner,so I can no longer minimize or close thetask manager window. However, when I switch to a different user, the taskmanager window is normal and all those options are there.
I would perform a system restore to a date and time of last night at11:00 pm or sometime yesterday, but I was having trouble with my internetconnection last night and yesterday and I'm afraid if I go back a day insystem restore,I will lose my internet connection again because Belkinhad me change some settings yesterday and last night that allowed me tostay connected to the internet.
