my HP3940 isn't printing. When I send a document to print it will show briefly in the printer folder with the message saying spooling then everything disappears and nothing happens. Have tried restarting spooler but nothing seems to rectify. Printer says that it is ready but can't seem to get anything to get as far as the printer.

Vista is able to locate the printer on the network but when I select it for installation, for some time, Vista tries to connect and then pops up this message: "Failed Connecting to Printer - Access Denied" And then another window pops up with this message: "Spooler Subsystem Application stopped woring and has been closed." In fact the spooler service always stops, so I have to restart it on the services windows, within Administrative Tools of the Control Panel. The machine is new and has been installed yesterday. Everything else works fine. The printer I am trying to install is on a Windows XP Professional machine within the same network (naturally).
View 9 Replies View RelatedHere is a new one for you all. Up until 2 days ago I was running a Epson CX9400Fax all-in-one with Vista Home Premium on a Dimension E520. I had a paper jam and after clearing it the system seemed to be out of sync with the takeup roll. The paper, on a simple print job, would would roll halfway through and then show a paper jam. I assumed the jam had thrown the timing out. Since it's cheaper to buy a new printer than attempt to have it repaired. I had a new Epson NX415 delivered this morning, set it up and lo and behold it's doing the same thing as the printer I replaced. This shouldn't be a problem with the two different printers. On the other hand, is there anything in the O/S that could be causing this? I'm picking up a replacement printer tomorrow and if the issue still persists, it can only be something in the O/S. Have any problems cropped up after the last updates? I'll keep you posted after I try out another printer.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI added a network printer to my new Vista Home Premium laptop and printed to it without a problem. Then I shut down the laptop. When I start it up again, it lists the network printer as being offline and won't print to it. If I delete it and then add it again, it works great until the next time I shut the laptop down and start again. How do I keep the printer from being offline to my laptop? I do not have this problem from my other Vista Home Premium desktop PC on the same network. Both print tro the printer via a wifi connection.

Whenever I try to print something, the Windows Interactive message comes up as follows: Program: C:windowssystem32spoolsv.exe Module: C:windowssystem32spooldriversw32x863lxdedatr.dll Run Time Check failure: 3 "siNUMBEROFTOPICS" used but not defined I select debug retry and get another message: Assertion Failed File: Dmrclibrary.cpp Line: 415 M_hlibmodule I select debug retry and get the first message again. I have looked at all of my usb's in device manager but it reports no problems. I don't know whether it is a Lexmark problem or Vista or both.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just acquired what seems to be a really old PCIe ATI card that I can't seem to install correctly. I went to the ATI support site and the drivers for the card just don't seem to work. Is there a specific order to follow when installing a GPU -- sorry, its been a while. It doesn't go into a PCI slot but its the bigger one, looks like a big ole' AGP card but it has a sticker right on the card that says PCIe. I can only find the drivers for a Radeon HD2600XT and I'm not sure if those are the correct drivers or not. When I first installed it everything went well and it installed correctly but the XP hardware wizard wasn't satisfied. So it doesn't fully install -- note, I do not have the original discs -- but just need the most up to date drivers.

I also have a new HP Laptop with Vista premium that has also had the same printer attached to it at times so the drivers are installed on HP laptop. I recently installed a router so I can use laptop wirelessly. That works fine. However, I am unable to print to the host printer wirelessly. I get message saying printer cannot communicate with computer. I tried everything I found on Google searches. I have enabled printer sharing on both. Do I have to make the Workgroup names the same and if so do I change the Dell with XP or the HP with Vista? I changed the Dell once to no avail so I changed back. Do computer names have to be same? I am a novice at networking.

There are just a few spurious characters printed at the top of this unwanted page. The following "proper" pages are OK. I have, so it seems, the lastest driver available.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI cannot set the default printer in Vista Business with SP1. I am connected to a domain trying to set a network printer hosted from a server as the default printer. I have seen a dozen or more questions similiar to this in this group as well as on other forums and found no answer. I see a MS-MVP come on and tell people to remove local printers such as the XPS and adobe printers. This is a ridiculous solution. Sure it may allow you to connect to a network printer but you have removed printers that you are going to need to use again. Unacceptable.
So far the only other solution that does not include deleting all the local printers off of the machine is to make sure you have write permissions to the default printer registry key. I have checked this and I do have write permissions(Full Control). SO WHAT NEXT? IS MICROSOFT EVER GOING TO COME OUT WITH ANOTHER FIX FOR THIS?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my XP home edition to Vista home premium with an upgrade disk provided by Dell. Before the upgrade I uninstalled my HP 2575 printer and software because it was listed as a compatibility issue. After upgrade I reinstalled new software from HP for my printer from the HP website. I plugged in the USB cable from my printer. Vista recognized the new device but would not put it in the printer folder in the control panel. Vista did find driver software online but could not install it. The HP solution center tells me no HP devices have been detected. When I try to print I get a message that I don’t have a printer hooked up. That’s the back ground here is what I have done.
I have updated Vista; most were successful some security ones failed. I have Service pack 1 I uninstalled and reinstalled HP software many times I started my spooler and reinstalled printer and software many times. I checked Task Manager and the hpqste08 services are running. I uninstalled virus protection and turned off the firewall. I have done everything I can find at HP, Microsoft and here. I tried to reload Vista but got a Worker Thread Returned at Bad IRQL error message so I stopped reload.
The one odd thing I did find was in the Device Manager. In the Device Manager the HP 2575 is listed twice. Once under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and once under Other Devices. When I click on the one under IEEE 1284.4 compatible printer and update driver software it finds the driver and says it’s up to date. When I do the same on the one under Other Devices, windows finds the software for this device but encountered an error when trying to install it. It does this when looking online and when looking in C: drive.The printer still does not show up in the printer folder in the control panel.
I have a Vista Home Premium Laptop, an XP Home laptop and an XP Home desktop (and an XBox 360) connected to my Linksys wireless G router and an XP Home desktop connected via CAT5 to the same router. All connect to the internet fine. The XP laptop finds and uses the printer on the desktop fine. I had setup a share of the Canon I560 printer, connected to my XP desktop, on the Vista laptop and it worked fine. I don't believe I made any changes, but now it won't find the printer and I can't seem to install a new copy.
The Vista machine will not detect the printer and won't even find the XP desktop or laptop on the network. The XP machines find each other fine. All machines get their IP address from the router via DHCP. All are in the same workgroup, or it seems so. Strangely the Vista machine shows WORKGROUP and the XP machines show Workgroup, even if I type the name in caps, XP still shows Workgroup and Vista WORKGROUP.............
I have a Vista Desktop that has a wireless router. I have shared a printer, but I would like my Mac laptop to be able to print to it. Do I install the printer driver on the Mac or on the Vista machine? If I install on the Vista machine, is there a special installer? The printer is an HP DeskJet 2445.

When i go to the printer wizard it locates the 3600 printer on the network. Then it asks me to choose the printer software from a list. or choose a disk. I don't have the disk. So, looking through this list, it doesn't even have the HP Color Laser Jet 3600 in there. it's got a 3000 and then jumps to 7000.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new motherboard (abit nh-m2sv), X2 +3800 processor, 2 gig pc4200 memory ATI graphics, DVD RW, Maxtor SATA drive, all are suppose to be Vista ready, but vista either won't install, or installs with BSOD's then will only run in Safe Mode. I have tried Home Basic and premium, the same issue, I install my old faitful XP and it goes straight in. I have run memtest, all fine, I have removed the gfx card, no change, I have tried an IDE hdd rather than a SATA no change.
View 6 Replies View RelatedFor the last few days or so I have been having problems with Vista Home Premuim 64bit not shutting down properly or looging off. I click on shut down and then the computer will just hang for a about 5mins and then decide to shut off sometimes or if it does not then the only way I can get it to turn off is by holding the power button in, which I dont really like doing. I have closed all programmes down by the clock on the task bar and the problem is still the same. Do you recommend trying a clean boot? I really want to try and find out where this problem lies as I don't really want to go through another reinstall of Vista.
View 8 Replies View Relatedall started after an update for MS office + gfx driver and then all the problems began, mainly my PC won't start up properly, no signal to any of my monitors, my mouse and keyboard don't work, blue and green lights on my tower running constantly and fans on full. The only way I can get it to boot up properly is to do a hard re-boot(I have to leave it unplugged for at least an hour to do this) and has been like this for almost a fortnight now, I have already tried
1). restoring it to before the update.
2). CHKDSK.
3). repair with installation disk.
4). changing power options.
5). un-installed Microsoft Office.
6).updated to most recent nvidia graphics card drivers.
Can't think of what else at the moment but have been going through the forum and google to no avail.
We recently brought a laptop with Vista Home and have had on going issues with it not shutting down. Everytime we hit shut down it goes to the logging off screen but never actually makes it. We have left it running over night and come down the next morning and its still "logging off"! We have tried the Ctrl Alt Del combination to see whats causing the issues but the task manager doesnt load up. This has been an ongoing issue for about 3 weeks and have probably only had the laptop for a month.
Forceably switching it off, which we have to, causes the safety mode prompt to come on at the next start up. If we do not run the safety mode we arent able to use the internet as it doesnt connect. So, running it in safety mode is the only way to get things back to normal. I should add that when I start up in safety mode it goes to a black screen eventually with "safety mode" written in each corner. Ive no idea how to move away from this so just hit the main off button but we can get back on the net when it reboots.
Having read a few issues with shutting down it doesnt appear that anyone has the ongoing issue we do and as mentioned Ctrl Alt Del does nothing. On the rare occasion we have got it to shut down properly it reverts the next time. We run McAfee anti virus and as a fairly new laptop there isnt much that we have downloaded since purchase. I also have a desktop and never experienced this ongoing issue!

Additional notes:
During printer setup on the Vista 32 machine, I attempted to install
additional 64x drivers, but could not locate them, so I skipped this step.
During printer setup on the Vista 64 machine, the shared printers were
identified successfully, and I added the network printer. I was not asked to
install drivers the way I have in the past when adding a local printer.
Printing using the shared printer on the local machine Vista 32 performs
with normal speeds. Printing from the network computer Vista 64 using the
shared printer installed on Vista 32 is extremely slow. Even typing in print
job changes in the print dialog window takes 30 seconds or so for each key
stroke to register a response onscreen.
I've recently installed AoE3 on my computer and it works fine, I can start it and all that. Though then I ran into some trouble. I can't make home cities! When I click the "create-button" it freezes for a while and then I come to the menu which is supposed to let you handle your cards and all that. Though there is no city chosen, and when I try to choose one the only option I can click is create new home city. I simply don't get it. One would assume that it's something wrong with the game, and yeah. Of course there is, but I tried reinstalling it and that didn't resolve the issue..! Then I installed AoE: Asian Dynasties thinking that a later update might have a fix, but nope. Problem remains. This is really starting to get to me... I'm at a LAN and I'm the only Vista user you see, though I've had it installed on this computer before so...

But other websites load fine. It only happens rarely. Especially since I'd like to see what I want to buy from Kohls I am using Vista with IE 8.0.

After I install the latest 64bit mouse driver, and click on the mouse icon to configure the mouse buttons, an error pops up that says - 'Some mouse settings might not work until you connect a Microsoft mouse to a USB port on your computer or set up a Microsoft mouse that uses Bluetooth technology'.
The problem is that I have a microsoft mouse that is connected to a USB port. The mouse works fine on my spare XP computer so its not the mouse that's faulty. I tried separate microsoft mice - wheel mouse optical and the intellimouse optical, both by microsoft and both have same issue.
I tried different usb ports and same happens. I tried the ps2 port and same happens.
I uninstallled all mouse drivers and reinstalled but no help. Basic left and right click works but cant configure the wheel button. It was working a week ago, but I went for a holiday and when I came back it was faulty. All vista updates are installed, security is the windows firewall, AVG free antivirus, and windows defender, but none of these have been a problem before
I recently spilled something on my Microsoft intellitype pro natural ergonomic 4000 keyboard and, after letting it dry and all that stuff, it started to mess up the keyboard keys. Now, "f" types both "f" and "space" and vice versa, "o" brings up the "My favorites key assignment screen, "5" or "." brings up both a "5" and "." together and finally, maybe the worst, "comma" brings me to the last page I visited. (luckily, as I was typing this, I also found that the page is always exactly as I left it, so all the words I struggled to type so far are still there when I go forward in my browser history.) Now I play a lot of FPS games on this computer and this is very very irritating to me. Is there any way to fix this without buying a new keyboard all together? View 6 Replies View Relatedwhy [question mark] because they are not workin, when i push the left one it does this kLJFS; but puts it way back at the beginning of whatever i was typing and turns on my caps and when i push the right one it does this ][iOURW! and if i had words in front of that [i had to do that in another program to make it nt erase all this] it gives me this W! and erases a bunch of stuff infront of it. this is really driving me nuts and i cant figure this out, i cannot unplug the keyboard because this is a laptop. i just bought this laptop like 3 days ago and it has been working wonderfully up until now.
