When i upgraded to Vista x64 it felt like i lost preformance and when i tested 3Dmark06 again i end up with more than 1000p less 12300p. I have tried both unclocked and overclocked and Vista keeps giving less scores in benchmarks than XP.
Anyone got a clue why?
Can anyone tell me if the free perfromance scan they offer on here safe to use?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy wife's computer is running Windows Vista. The system works fine for almost all purposes. It accesses the Internet successfully through a wireless network card to our home WiFi router. The WiFi connection is fine with a high signal strength. It's connecting to an old DLink 802.11b router using WEP encryption, which is all the router supports. Periodically, on average every few days, she will lose HTTP connectivity. This happens in both IE7 and Firefox 3.08. She can still send and receive email and still use a web browser via HTTPS, but she cannot connect to ordinary web pages on port 80. The problem normally persists until she reboots, at which time connectivity is restored. Two other computers on my home network (one Linux, one XP) are unaffected. They work fine through the same wireless network while my wife's Vista computer is not connecting...............
View 9 Replies View Relatedi had to do a system restore which i've done before with no problems, this time however when the comp started back up we had a power cut and now when i turn on comp all i get is a black screen even starting in safe mode etc all i get is the microsoft logo at the bottom of the screen and it just goes back to the black screen, the only thing working is the cursor can anyone.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a new computer from Dell and assumed I would have some problems learning a new OS, but I did not anticipate the loss of a good applet like Microsoft Fax. I counted on this small program for occasional direct communication with other facilities fax machine. It was quick and easy.
I have a second older Dell computer which I invested with hardware updates in preparation for upgrading to Vista as well. The lack of fax capability in Vista precludes my upgading as I need one machine that can function in a more complete manner. I don't pretend to understand the rationale behind this lack in Vista but I sorely miss the function. Others have teased me about my early adoption of Vista and now I am definitely embarrassed. I sincerely hope Microsoft will reconsider this situation and perhaps at least offer a download correction to improve the functionality of this Vista suite......
Can connect to Outlook server over VPN with Vista home Premium (32 bit), but connection drops out after a few minutes. Requires reboot. Access to server files stays connected indefinitely.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am connected to the Internet through and SMC Barricade G router. The computer is hardwired Ethernet to the router. A second computer in my office is also connected via Ethernet to the router. The connection is lost for several minutes, and then it restores itself automatically. The Vista Event Viewer shows several events which may have initiated the loss of communication.
1. Event ID 27; Intel(R) PRO/1000 PM Network Connection Link has been disconnected.
2. Event ID 2505; The server could not bind to the transport DeviceNetBT_Tcpip_{737A72A7-5D80-4E6B-B2B4-1F599399F2E5} because another computer on the network has the same name. The server could not start.
3. Event ID 4321; The name "NEWTECHFX530:20" could not be registered on the interface with IP address 0.0.0.0. The computer with the IP address 192.168.2.103 did not allow the name to be claimed by this computer.
4. Event ID 1003;Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0019D16D7512. The following error occurred: The operation was canceled by the user.. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
I am having a problem with losing disc space. I recently caught and presumably deleted a Trojan, Zlob-X.a. My computer was fine for about 48 hours after the removal. Now every time I connect to the internet I lose GB of hard disc space (about 1 GB every 5-10 minutes). The loss or continues for several minutes after I disconnect, as if something has downloaded and is expanding in the background. No spyware removal tool or antivirus has detected anything.
I have Vista Home Premium. I have two Hauppauge 1600s and a Nvidia 8600GTS. I have been receiving all my local digital OTA channels just fine since getting this machine 6 months ago, and now suddenly the local CBS affiliate, channel 4.1, is gone. Just gone. Dead. I get nothing but the No TV Signal blue screen. When I go to settings and check the digital signal strength, it is totally dead. The dreaded red bar. All other channels come in at six green bars, just like 4.1 did until this past monday.
I have tried re-setting up the guide, I have tried recording one digital channel while trying to view 4.1 to check if it's just tuner 1. Both times I get the blue screen. I then took the cable out of one of the tuner cards and ran it directly into my TV and the signal comes in almost perfectly. Why is the signal suddenly gone on just one channel?
Need if there are settings in Vista SP1 that would affect sporadic severe packet loss or intermittent connection? I am trying to troubleshoot my internet connection. So far, Comcast has put in new cable lines/splitters in my house, new termination at the pole and a new modem. Problem still persists. What I have done on my end before Comcast got involved:
1. Update chipset drivers
2. Tried new NIC
3. Upgrade/downgrade firmware on Router
4. Removed Router
5. Removed software firewalls and AV
6. Complete reinstall of Vista with slipstreamed SP1
loss of Internet Connection in Vista; completely loosing my Home Network; random
Internet Lags and Drops; and it seemed the only solution was to Reboot my
Computer to get an Active Internet connection. I applied many of the
Hotfixes; and used all of the Suggestions but nothing seemed to work. The
one thing that did seem to make sense though was the Tech advice here and
their that would say it was a Hardware Issue with Routers, etc.
So this is what I did; I went out and Bought the D-Link DIR-655 which is
Certified to work with Vista. It arrived last week; hooked it up and since
then I have not had 1 Internet Drop; or have I lost my Home Network. Now my
Computer can stay on; go to sleep; and when it wakes I have an immediate
Internet Connection. On the Upside the speeds are much faster as well
instead of your basic 100mbps; im getting 300mbps. So it was well worth the
Upgrade to me. It actually made sense that to take advantage of some of the
new options with Vista Networking that you would need a New Certified Vista
Router. Im actually very glad I did it; no more headaches and reboots. Hope
this helps anyone who was going thru the same Issues I was.
Oh and by the way just so you know here is what I have going on with my
Network: My New PC; 2 Mac Books; 1 older PC; 1 Xbox; 1 PS3; and 1 Wii; and
the VOIP.
I also used to use the Hawking Booster on my Network to help with VOIP lag
and arranging packets; but I also elminate that now because this new Router
arranges the packets and no Lag on the VOIP.
Having surveyed numerous similar posts I am at a loss as to how to resolve this issue, hence posting my specifics...all help greatly appreciated.
I am running Vista Home premium, IE8, Firefox 3.5.3, AVG free and Zonealarm. On starting the PC there is no problem connecting to the internet through either browser or updating email (Windows Mail).
Problem...
Loss of internet connection via IE and/or Firefox whilst Mail can still send/receive. I have tried clearing the cache etc but the only thing that works is re-booting the laptop (Dell XPS 1330).
I mainly browse with IE but downloaded Firefox in case IE was the problem. One or the other will lose connection first then the other will follow.
While being satisfied by the cool effects and new interface of Windows Vista Codename Longhorn, many of us testers are what you would call "gamers." The lot of us would like to know if gaming on the default Vista Supplemental drivers would mean loss of graphics quality compared to using up to date drivers on a XP OS. For example, I installed Vista and then installed my trusty game, Battlefield 2. I tried using the new nvidia Vista drivers but the game kept crashing when I start it up. So I reinstalled the Vista Supplemental drivers and it happened to work. Quite interesting. I am able to run the game on default vista drivers and not the nvidia vista drivers. Coming to conclusion, would using the vista drivers result in loss of quality and graphics compared to using up to date drivers on a XP system? Or you can also rephrase it; Would gaming be better on the Vista Beta or XP? Does anyone know if SLI works on Vista?

When we run the application in Vista as-is (i.e. without enabling "Run as Administrator"), we see [and can retrieve] any saved case data. However, if we enable the "Run as Administrator" option and launch the app we no longer see that saved data in the application. If we disable the "Run as Administrator" option again we can once again see that saved data in the app. Any new cases saved with the app open with "Run as Administrator" enabled do not seem to disappear like the ones saved with that option enabled, regardless of whether the option is enabled or not. Does this particular option perform something like a "rollback" when enabled, causing sort of an undo action to happen to the application, or could this be some kind of security issue that "blocks" or "hides" the data?
