OEM 64 Install Not Working

Jan 21, 2008

I'm in the process of building a new computer and I bought an OEM version of Vista 64 to use. Now all my versions of Windows have been OEM with each new computer I have got but they have never before been like this one. I'm not ready to install it yet as I still have a couple of bits of hardware on back-order I'm waiting for but the OEM Vista 64 info on the package says I need the OPK to install it. Does this mean I can no longer install my own OEM operating systems ?

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Install Can Not Working

Sep 1, 2009

I just got Expression Web V3. It tells me I don't have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed. When I download the .NET SP1 from MS it installs about half way then says an error was detected and unwinds everything. The error box says "see Error Log". What error log? where? When I click on it, MS Visual Studio 2008, it comes up but has its own error box "file cannot be opened because it is being used by another application". Talk about frustrating!

I reinstalled/repaired .NET 3.5 it went fine -- at least no errors reported.

Besides Visual Studio 2008, I show
..NET Component Framework 1.0 SP3 developer
..NET Component Framework 2.0 SP2
..NET Component Framework 3.5
..NET Framework 3.5

Really could use some suggestions here as I just want to get Ex Web 3.0 going.

Install HP Printer Psc 950 Can Not Working

Mar 23, 2008

I need to get Vista install my HP printer/scanner PSC 950. It recognize the printer and try to install drivers for it, but does not find any drivers. It asks me to input my CD for the printer, and I have tried that with no luck. On HPs website the say that my printer is built in to Vista and that Vista should install it with no problem. This is not true since I cant make Vista install it.I have tried to unplug/plug the USB cabel for the printer, and Vista does the same thing every time, trying to install the driver for it with no success. I have Windows Vista Home Premium on a HP Pavilion dv6000.

64bit Install But Not Working Properly

Aug 23, 2009

I had a Vista 32bit, and made the choice I wanted to goto 64bit. I got a new motherboard an Intel DP45SG running a quad core, i think 9550, but I dont have the exact specs in front of me. Then i am running four ddr3 corsair ram chips 1gb. I have two wd drives, don't rember the models off hand either. I have replaced the cables to the drives, ran just the drive by itself. I had a Nvidia Gefore 9600gt, but I replaced it with a ATI 4850 1gb ddr2 card. I am having the system take forever to run applications and do file copies. I opened up outlook 2007 and it took literally 15mins for it to open the mail box. Itunes takes about 20mins to open up. I can barely even use world of warcraft online half the time. I tried to copy files from the old hard drive to the new hard drive, they copied at 12kb/sec. Intel had a bios upgrade and I did that, I downloaded every driver possible. I turned off Index searching, Im to the point of going, is it the proc, memory, hard drives or all three. or heck the psu. Im totally lost as to what needs to be done to get this thing working. From what I can tell its only the file copies and the 32bit applications. Also, current windows updates, at SP2 atm.

Install A Firewall Stop Working

Mar 29, 2008

A friend's computer. She hasn't used it in the six months since I helped her buy it, so it hasn't been online. Before I go online to download updates like SP1, I want to install a firewall. I've downloaded Comodo's latest free firewall for Win32 as well as various freeware antivirus and antispyware software. The problem is trying to install ANY of these programmes.

When I double-click the installation file a window pops up telling me that the installation programme has stopped working. I've disabled Windows worthless firewall, but that doesn't solve the problem. how I can install security software on this computer. I use WXPpro, so I don't have these problems on my PC.

Windows Updates Not Working After Sp1 Install

Apr 16, 2008

if their updates don't come through after installing sp1? If so, I have windows 32 bit os and it is set to install automatically at 3 am, but my compuer is always asleep then, but when I wake it up in the am, I used to get a windows symbol at the bottom right telling me there is an update avail.! Now, it won't do that after the update to sp1? I just recently changed the time to auto. update at 1 pm, when my computer is turned on, so I am waiting to see if it will do that. I have checked the options and they are set right, I just think that after the install of sp1 my os now does not recognize when there is an update avail.

Stop Working When Install Any Downloaded Software

Mar 26, 2008

I try to install any downloaded software, for example Winamp, Firefox, etc, it does not work. I will get a popup that says "(program name) has stopped working. A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

It has done this with every file I've downloaded and tried to install. Also, some MSI files I've downloaded (turbotax update, etc.) do nothing after I try to run them. I've verified that the software is compatible with Vista (per the places I've downloaded them from), turned off UAC, disabled Windows Firewall and Defender, Run as Admin, and even tried in Safe Mode. Also, I've run Windows Update and it says there are no available updates.

USB Mouse Stopped Working After Silverlight 3.0 Install On A Clean X64

Jan 16, 2010

I have 2 identical HP Pavilion dv4 laptops running Vista Home Premium x64. After installing Silverlight plugin on a clean machine, the USB mouse stopped working with all of my mice. Uninstall of Silverlight is not helping. It seems like Silverlight somehow corrupts the drivers (or maybe some other problem) that prevent the USB mouse from working. The touch mouse is still OK. I've been struggling with this for a while and spent ton of time without any progress. I do need to use Silverlight in my work and I have to have an external mouse.

Check The Memory For Errors BEFORE I Load/install Windows Vista Home Premium X64 To Avoid Install Hang-ups

I would like to check the memory for errors BEFORE I load/install Windows Vista Home Premium x64 to avoid install hang-ups. Can you make an ISO CD of this program, load it in your CD/DVD drive and check your memory for errors? I recently updated the BIOS on the board (DP35DP) and it does show all of the 4GB of Kingston ValueRam PC800 1.8v (2x2gb) installed. I have good reason to believe that it's from a respectable manufacturer. Just want to make sure the memory is good before I load up the OS.

Clean Install, Verify Previous Install Of XP/2000?

Jan 30, 2007

I'm assuming a clean install with an upgrade license will be identical to a clean install with a 'full' copy, except that at some point during the process, it will ask for my key for Windows XP? I just want to confirm this is the case before I go buy an upgrade copy. one last question to tack on here - if I have a desktop and a laptop computer will it let me install the same copy and license key of Vista on both? I know some MS products in the past have allowed you to install on more than one computer because they realize a lot of people have more than one computer but they only work with one at a given time.

SP1 Will Not Install And Install Failed With Error 80004005

Apr 25, 2008

I've tried numerous times to Install Vista Sp1, but without success. The install appers to go well, reaching 100% at stage 3, but then the screen reports the SP did not successfully install, and proceeds to roll back. On Checking the message in Windows Update, the install failed with error 80004005. I've raised the issue directly with MS, but the advice to install the SP in Safe mode has not helped. I've also trawled various forums and cannot find any reference to the specific error code.

I own a Sony Vaio VGN-FZ1. A number of forums seem to suggest it might be a hardware issue, and I have tried disabling / uninstalling various devices to
see if this helps, but this also has not got me any further. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what this error code means? Is there a way to force the SP to install despite this error code (it does get to 100% at stage 3 after all, so maybe it does install, but one of the packages check routines is picking up an error which doesn't really exist???)

Internet Not Working, Ping By DNS Is Working

Mar 23, 2008

My college aged daughter's laptop formerly worked fine but now has odd networking issues which prevent the system from browsing the internet. The system correctly obtains a DHCP address and is able to ping by name, can correctly run AIM and Microsoft Sidebar but still can not connect the IE7.0 Browser to the internet.

I have read a ton of links here within the Network and Sharing group but I haven't seen anything quite like this before. Even though the I know better, I still went through the exercise of testing for DNS issues as well as the often suggested MTU test but there weren't any issues. I have completely shut off the Microsoft Firewall to no avail. The system came with a free trial of Norton Internet Security but after it expired, I loaded a Symantec/Norton Antivirus (NAV 10.1) and did a complete virus scan which produced nothing. I also did a full spyware scan which also didn't locate any serious malware......

Install - Repair Install

I could do a repair install, install new motherboard drivers and possibly have to validate all over again the same as you always did with XP but no good. I cannot get into Windows at all so cant run repair from WITHIN windows and no option from the boot DVD works. So, do you have to lose everything each time you upgrade hardware or some part of it dies meaning you are forced to upgrade hardware?

I installed from Vista Business pre SP1 and installed SP1 before the motherboard died.

Internet Explorer Has Stopped Working, Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working

Jul 6, 2008

By now it should be obvious that, under the Vista operating system, I have Home Premium, there is a severe overall, general "has stopped working" problem.

Thus far I've experienced:
"Internet Explorer has stopped working"
"Windows Explorer has stopped working"
"Word has stopped working"
"Sherlock Holmes Nemesis (Adventure Company) has stopped working"
"Outlook has stopped working"
"Acid 4.0 (Sony) has stopped working"
"Acid 6.0 (Sony) has stopped working"
"Sound Forge (Sony) has stopped working"

Is it not obvious by now that Vista has a problem, maybe a compatability problem, with everything from Internet Explorer and Microsoft Word to third party programs which cause programs, as I mentioned, even programs made by Microsoft, to "stop working"? Is there no an overall "stopped working" patch or something that Microsoft has released by now?...............

"CCC.exe has stopped working"

Same with some others...

Yes i ran AVG, i ran malware, and superantispyware, none of them finds anything.

I cant even load daemon tools now, it gives me some error: "Engine loading was failed", cant uninstall it, it gives me another error, and some of the programs like netlimiter if i start them from my objectdock dock they automaticly stop working, only when i start them from the normal .exe they dont crash.
