Im having problem connecting my Sony Vaio laptop to my external monitor. The problem is whenever i extended my screen to the external monitor, it shows atikmdag stopped responding and after a few second it crashed into blue screen.
View 9 RepliesWhen i play any game on my computer it freezes for a couple of seconds and then continues. when i exit the game i get the message " atikmdag has stopped responding and successfully recovered" I have the Catalyst Install Manager on my computer but as far as I know I don't have the Control Panel.. Sometimes it freezes and I can continue playing the game but the game and the rest of my computer looses all color until I restart it. If I log off and log on to another file on my computer all colour returns but when I go back to my file there is still no colour.
When it goes gray everything has weird patterns some vibrant and others not and all words become black squares..My computer crashed 2 months ago and i got it serviced. They said I had a defected mainboard? they replaced it but when I got my computer back I noticed they had also changed the graphics card without telling me? they changed it from a Nvidia 7 series.............
Whenever I play a game after about 1 minute the screen artifacts, go's black then goes back to the game screen. This happens every minute or so.
On returning to windows there is an error notification stating "atikmdag stopped responding then recovered".
I have trailed the net looking for a fix and haven't found anything. I have cleaned the drivers out and installed the latest 7.10 catalyst suite.
My system spec is as follows.
OS Windows Vista Premium 64bit
AMD 64 Athlon x2 6400+
Asus Crosshair MoBo
2 GB pc2 - 6400 RAM
MSI ATI R2600XT Diamond 512mb ddr4 (this is the offending article i think)
700w EZ Cool PSU
I have contacted MSi and ATI/AMD, both don't have an answer to the problem.
Fresh to the meat grinder, I installed Vista. Little did I know the torment that would ensue. I thought people were exaggerating when they said how much it crashed. Well, it's still crashing, though only every hour or so instead of every 5 min, so for now that's fine... But my question involves the configuration of multiple outputs in Vista! If you recall, in XP there was a nifty section of the control panel where you could select the default output device for various things: MIDI, Audo, etc.
If I set my default audio device to my USB soundcard, I could listen to the games I was playing. If I also set the default MIDI to my sound card, Media Player would produce soothing tunes to my slaughter in Counterstrike, through the speakers in my room. I had the voice settings configured even, to use my headset for both input and output (It's a nice headset!)
I've recently built a new PC, and this is the first time I've gone for vista. Was previously an XP32 / Ubuntu fan so this is new to me.
I have a rather strange issue that I can't pinpoint the cause on.
After some time (maybe a few hours), firefox will stop working. It doesn't crash, but it just won't load any pages, it just "hangs". The same thing will happen for IE. If i close firefox the window closes, but its still in task manager.
I can't kill the process, well I can click kill, but it doesnt go. I can't load up firefox cos its already running (apparently), and I can't shut the system down, presumably because of this firefox process still running.
I get the same with uTorrent, after about an hour it stops responding and prevents me from shutting down the system.
At the moment I have to just switch the PC off at the mains, and I'm not sure this is a healthy practice.
I was running Avast, Zonealarm. but I have since uninstalled those. I still have the same issue, even if i disable the windows firewall etc.
Any ideas? I've tried googling but it just returns threads suggesting to uninstall antivirus/firewalls
I have recently purchased a new quad-core, Vista PC with dual NVidia cards. I am trying to set up multiple monitors, but the second monitor does not seem to be recognized - although the display under control panel sees two monitors. When I connect everything and reboot, the second monitor stays in power save mode. I am guessing that the PC is not really "seeing" the second monitor and the two in the display is a mirror, but am unsure on how to verify this. Is there a way to force it to detect the new hardware? Windows Vista helps and support says it should auto-detect, but if it does not, I cannot find a work around to force it to see this new monitor.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Vista SP1, fully patched, on a refurb Gateway HTPC that came with a Gateway branded remote + IR receiver. I use a Logitech Harmony 550 remote that already knew how to talk to Media Center.A couple weeks ago, around the time I installed Windows' latest updates (installed 9/13/08), Media Center stopped responding to both the Harmony & the Gateway remotes (I checked both). The IR receiver flashes for both remotes, and also appears with no problems in Device Manager. Device Manager shows no hardware conflicts and no other hardware problems. Media Center responds just fine to my wireless xGene mini-keyboard with trackball--but the remote makes TV viewing so much easier.
I have searched online and in this forum, and nobody else seems to be reporting this problem, so it can't be an issue with the Windows updates (unless it's specific to something else in my PC). The closest I came was a post on Aaron Stebner's blog citing the same problem after MCE 2005's Update Rollup 2. The solution then was to reconfigure the broadcast channel range, but the steps Stebner gives don't appear to work with my remote.
I have recently developed a piece of acupuncture training software using Macromedia Director MX 2004. I tested it on all platforms, and didn't get problems at the time. However, I obviously didn't test it on Vista long enough, as several Vista users have reported it hanging at random times. I have since tested it again, and indeed got the same problems (XP users don't seem to have these issues). I have experimented with changing the compatibility mode to XP SP2, but this doesn't cure the problem (although it might reduce the crashes slightly). I have checked the Problem report

I have got Avast (could not go with AVG as its such a chore to shut the processes down) SpywareBlaster Spybot Search and Destroy Windows Defender (although I am not sure if this is any good, read somewhere that this was the program responsible for Nvidia Card users getting the famous "....... driver has stopped responding" error, its currently enabled on my system, but I am yet to have a long playing session, so I can't say if this error still comes up with or without Windows Defender.
Come to that, the driver error may not have anything to do with the Windows Defender.......I tend to believe everything I read so maybe someone more wise to this can say whether this is true or not. But my main question is, do I have enough to protect my Computer?
My graphic card because just awhile back my computer performance base score has always been 5.9 and and everything ran smoothly until i formated my hard drive with my recovery CD. After i finished installing all my drivers, i noticed my base score drastically dropped down to 1.0 cause of my graphic and graphic gaming when pross, ram, HD works perfectly. I went to go check if i downloaded the wrong driver but that wasnt the problem. i want to enabled SLI but now i get the Nvidia Geforce 9800 gtx (2x).

When ever i try to delete a program or some file types off my computer, a popup comes on saying Windows explorer has stopped responding, and it closes all my windows and freezes my computer for a couple minutes. This has become very annoying as i am trying to clean up old files on my computer.

A few days ago my pc was dropped of a stand with the monitor and everything connected. The onboard gfx does not work anymore (nVIDIA 6100 Geforce 405) and the plug is loose so i installed a nVIDIA 6200 Geforce PCI card, everything is fine till i go to run a high graphics game like WoW or SecondLife.
They work for a few seconds then the screen gets all messed up then goes off and back on, then a Hazard Sign in the System Tray pops up that says "Display Driver has stopped responding and has Recovered". Now i know enough to solve certain issues but this has me stumped, i've updated my drivers, even lowered the resolution to try to get the game to work but it does the same thing, now ive had this card in before a few months back, worked fine, then i took it out and went back to the onboard gfx. now the PCI card is giving me issues.
I get the BSoD about once or twice a day probably because of my video drivers, but I'm not sure how to fix it. My screen also flickers a lot and a message in system tray says something "has stopped responding and has recovered." These are the problem details I get after my computer boots up again:

I added a second monitor to the GeForce 7100 GS using a DVI-VGA adapter and for the life of me cannot get it to display anything, the monitor is just in sleep mode. I've got the latest driver, Windows is up to date, checked the cables, tried another adapter, tried everything but, still nothing. The second monitor shows up in the device manager and in the Nvidia control panel. It's enabled and set to extend desktops. It seems the system knows it's there because I can move the mouse over, but cannot see anything. The power light on the second monitor just flashes. I've swapped monitors over, to make sure there's not a problem with the display and it's fine. When I do that, the main monitor is then plugged in to the DVI adapter and then that one goes to sleep. Just seems whichever monitor is plugged in to the DVI-VGA adapter just doesn't want to work........
View 9 Replies View Relatedi have only one monitor, and somehow it is being treat as though its the secondary monitor in a dual monitor set up. i cannot view my start menu, or view any programs being opened, as when i try to open them, they presumeably open on the phantom primary monitor. even when i try to open display settings, i cannot see the box. i am able to move my mouse to the left border of the screen and move it off into oblivion, and occasionally drag random folders and short cuts over to view.

I tried everything: system repair (which says it can't do - corrupt registry). Restore (can't - no restore point was set.) Go back to last known good config - won't work it crashes.
I ran a memory test and all was good.
So, I saw on this site where it was advised to do an upgrade/repair, but I can't because the option is grayed out and disabled. I tried starting with the disc in, and also by starting and then putting the disk in. If I wait until the machine starts and put the disk in, it will not work. It crashes. If I put the disk in and then start the machine is when I get to the install screen and eventually the 'update is disabled' screen.
I'm really trying to avoid a new install. I wonder if there is a way to get around the disabled thing in my case?

And there's a 2 option...Recovery of factory Default Software and the 2nd option is Erase the hard disk(delete all the data and partitions from your hard disk) then I took 10 hours of this..then when it finished the process.. I installed vista sp2 yesterday and now my laptop won't start. it offers two options, start in repair mode or start normally. I have an 18 month old Toshiba Equiium running vista home P 32 bit. If I start normally, the microsoft logo comes up and then the screen blips blue momentarily then it goes off. If I run the repair, it scans for faults, then prompts to run a system restore. I take this option and then it takes many minutes to attempt repairs - ultimately ending with 'windows cannot repair..."
there is a log with lots of 0x0 type errors notices (which are meaningles to me) I can't even get to the point where I could elect to restore to last best save or whatever. I have all my docs backed up on a portable HD but I cannot get past this failed repair message.
Recently, my Vista x32 crashed. I deleted it and put on Windows XP. (This was three days ago) I now wish to go back to Vista, as I didn't expect this and never planned to turn to XP. A vista CD did not come with my laptop, but I have a serial. My friend had Vista and when he installed it, it would only be compliant with the serial number it came with. Is there any way to recover my Vista?

I reinstalled a fresh version of Windows 7 thinking it might help out. Everything is okay, I run 1280x800 without the drivers for the video but once I install NVIDIA Drivers, it crashes. I can't play any games this way.
