View 4 RepliesI've had a look at the solutions for this but they haven't helped. I think this is related to the IE8 update/upgrade. The Problem signature is:

I had problems with the "windows sidebar stopped working" messages appearing on a regular basis. I have only windows stock gadgets in the sidebar. A while ago I even removed one gadget at the time to see if it would stop crashing but it didn't. Yesterday I reformatted my computer because of another problem I had and one of the first things that happened was "windows sidebar stopped working". It happened again today. I still have almost only drivers and windows updates installed so what can be causing this problem?
View 5 Replies View RelatedWell Vista is starting to get on my nerves with this one, Im trying to do a little spring cleaning in my folders and stuff organizing it and what not then sometimes when I right click something it will freeze then say, Explorer.exe has suddenly stopped responding and then it says to restart it so I do and its on certain programs that it does this.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen i play any game on my computer it freezes for a couple of seconds and then continues. when i exit the game i get the message " atikmdag has stopped responding and successfully recovered" I have the Catalyst Install Manager on my computer but as far as I know I don't have the Control Panel.. Sometimes it freezes and I can continue playing the game but the game and the rest of my computer looses all color until I restart it. If I log off and log on to another file on my computer all colour returns but when I go back to my file there is still no colour.
When it goes gray everything has weird patterns some vibrant and others not and all words become black squares..My computer crashed 2 months ago and i got it serviced. They said I had a defected mainboard? they replaced it but when I got my computer back I noticed they had also changed the graphics card without telling me? they changed it from a Nvidia 7 series.............
I'm running Vista SP1, fully patched, on a refurb Gateway HTPC that came with a Gateway branded remote + IR receiver. I use a Logitech Harmony 550 remote that already knew how to talk to Media Center.A couple weeks ago, around the time I installed Windows' latest updates (installed 9/13/08), Media Center stopped responding to both the Harmony & the Gateway remotes (I checked both). The IR receiver flashes for both remotes, and also appears with no problems in Device Manager. Device Manager shows no hardware conflicts and no other hardware problems. Media Center responds just fine to my wireless xGene mini-keyboard with trackball--but the remote makes TV viewing so much easier.
I have searched online and in this forum, and nobody else seems to be reporting this problem, so it can't be an issue with the Windows updates (unless it's specific to something else in my PC). The closest I came was a post on Aaron Stebner's blog citing the same problem after MCE 2005's Update Rollup 2. The solution then was to reconfigure the broadcast channel range, but the steps Stebner gives don't appear to work with my remote.
I have recently developed a piece of acupuncture training software using Macromedia Director MX 2004. I tested it on all platforms, and didn't get problems at the time. However, I obviously didn't test it on Vista long enough, as several Vista users have reported it hanging at random times. I have since tested it again, and indeed got the same problems (XP users don't seem to have these issues). I have experimented with changing the compatibility mode to XP SP2, but this doesn't cure the problem (although it might reduce the crashes slightly). I have checked the Problem report

Whenever I play a game after about 1 minute the screen artifacts, go's black then goes back to the game screen. This happens every minute or so.
On returning to windows there is an error notification stating "atikmdag stopped responding then recovered".
I have trailed the net looking for a fix and haven't found anything. I have cleaned the drivers out and installed the latest 7.10 catalyst suite.
My system spec is as follows.
OS Windows Vista Premium 64bit
AMD 64 Athlon x2 6400+
Asus Crosshair MoBo
2 GB pc2 - 6400 RAM
MSI ATI R2600XT Diamond 512mb ddr4 (this is the offending article i think)
700w EZ Cool PSU
I have contacted MSi and ATI/AMD, both don't have an answer to the problem.
I suppose you can never have too much protection, but I would be interested to know if what I have is good enough or not enough
I have got Avast (could not go with AVG as its such a chore to shut the processes down) SpywareBlaster Spybot Search and Destroy Windows Defender (although I am not sure if this is any good, read somewhere that this was the program responsible for Nvidia Card users getting the famous "....... driver has stopped responding" error, its currently enabled on my system, but I am yet to have a long playing session, so I can't say if this error still comes up with or without Windows Defender.
Come to that, the driver error may not have anything to do with the Windows Defender.......I tend to believe everything I read so maybe someone more wise to this can say whether this is true or not. But my main question is, do I have enough to protect my Computer?
My graphic card because just awhile back my computer performance base score has always been 5.9 and and everything ran smoothly until i formated my hard drive with my recovery CD. After i finished installing all my drivers, i noticed my base score drastically dropped down to 1.0 cause of my graphic and graphic gaming when pross, ram, HD works perfectly. I went to go check if i downloaded the wrong driver but that wasnt the problem. i want to enabled SLI but now i get the Nvidia Geforce 9800 gtx (2x).

View 9 Replies View Relatedseveral programs wont run after installation they just give me a stopped running error
game programs wont uninstall
when games are installing wont show the background, it will ask for the cd key but after that the program exits but still installs but after it installs it wont run. programs like mozilla run with no problems the error that seems to occur a lot is
Setup.exe has stopped responding
i have unblocked all these programs from my firewall and everything all of these work on my other vista cpu
When ever i try to delete a program or some file types off my computer, a popup comes on saying Windows explorer has stopped responding, and it closes all my windows and freezes my computer for a couple minutes. This has become very annoying as i am trying to clean up old files on my computer.
View 9 Replies View Relatedwhen i upgraded to SP2 my start button stopped responding to my mouse click. i tried goin back to SP1 but it still didnt work? when i try to right-click on the start orb it comes up but with three black rows at the bottom of the right-click menu? i had to download that "Vista Start Menu" just to use it again but i'd rather have the normal start menu.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi just joined this forum in hopes of finding an answer to my problem, i have also searched the posts relating to my problem. A few days ago my pc was dropped of a stand with the monitor and everything connected. The onboard gfx does not work anymore (nVIDIA 6100 Geforce 405) and the plug is loose so i installed a nVIDIA 6200 Geforce PCI card, everything is fine till i go to run a high graphics game like WoW or SecondLife.
They work for a few seconds then the screen gets all messed up then goes off and back on, then a Hazard Sign in the System Tray pops up that says "Display Driver has stopped responding and has Recovered". Now i know enough to solve certain issues but this has me stumped, i've updated my drivers, even lowered the resolution to try to get the game to work but it does the same thing, now ive had this card in before a few months back, worked fine, then i took it out and went back to the onboard gfx. now the PCI card is giving me issues.
I get the BSoD about once or twice a day probably because of my video drivers, but I'm not sure how to fix it. My screen also flickers a lot and a message in system tray says something "has stopped responding and has recovered." These are the problem details I get after my computer boots up again:

Sidebar has recently started using 50% + CPU. It runs from 0 to 50+ and back to 0 and back to 50+ and just keeps doing this. What would cause that?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have installed Vista x64 and there's no vista sidebar. I tryed searching in start menu, control panel even in program files. I couldn't find anything. So is there way to install it manualy? I guess i installed version without sidebar.

how to return it to its previous transparency?
I run vista ultimate64 on my laptop and just love it. Sidebar gadgets monitor a few things, network cpu useage, mem useage....what I am looking for is a sidebar gadget that monitors cpu temd (HD temp would be bonus points)
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am having problems with my sidebar, and I think with IE as well. It all started when I uninstalled McAfee from my system. When I had it installed, it would freeze my entire computer in seconds, so I uninstalled it. After that my sidebar never worked right again. The gadgets show up, but not correctly. My weather app just had a white box with a little blue "i" in the corner. My analog clock would just have a black face and a red second hand at 12 o'clock that never moved.
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the gadgets, but with no luck. I have tried a few command prompt .dll commands that I have read in forums, but that didn't help. I read it might be an issue with IE8, so I downgraded to IE7, but that still didn't help. I love the sidebar and want to use it again, but nothing I do works! I also have an issue with my IE7.
I tried to sign up for these forums, but the image verification box wouldn't show up until i tried it in Firefox. I use a browser called Slimbrowser (which is based on IE I believe) and I would like to continue using it, but it may be linked to my IE problem.
how to get the sidebar on my Vista back on again. Has disappeared for some reason. no gadgets.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've completely lost my sidebar -- if that's the right term -- you know, that thing with the gadgets. I don't even have that "+" or "-" thing at the top. Could I inadvertently have turned it off? If so, where is the switch?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've tried over and over again to try and get my Vista Sidebar to reload and I don't know what's going on. When I type in "regsvr32 -u ATL.DLL" I get "DLLUnregisterserver in atl.dll succeeded." When I type in "regsvr32 -u sbdrop.dll" and any of the other commands I get the following:
"the module "sbdrop.dll" failed to load. Make sure the binary is stored at the specified path or debug it to check for problems with the binary or dependent .DLL files. The specified module could not be found."
Even though my account is Admin status I have lost Sidebar and jut get I need an Administrtaor to reinstall. Setting up a bogus account doesn't help either. And yes i have used the control panel icon to attempt reload nothing! Short of going to System Restore does anybody have a solution?

View 4 Replies View RelatedIn Windows Vista, I lost my Sidebar settings. The Gagets are still there, but the color of the Sidebar is now transparant; I can see the desktop wallpaper right through the Sidebar. How do I make the sidebar itself, solid grey (non-transparent) ?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI run two monitors with my desktop "extended" over both. All has been well with the Sidebar sitting pretty on my main monitor (which, incidentally is on the right-hand side on my desk). However, I suddenly found, upon booting up one morning, that my settings had disappeared. I have reset them, but I now find that the Sidebar is sitting on my No#2 monitor, which effectively means that it is in the middle of my desktop, if you follow me. This isn't a show-stopper for me, although I sometime don't switch the No#2 monitor on. I'm trying to find a way to reposition the sidebar, as all I seem to be able to do is turn it on and off.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've placed the weather gadget on the sidebar and set it for my area, however the temperatures and forecasts are nothing like the those from the weather bureau or other weather sites.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Home Premium x64. The build is only ~1month old and previously the sidebar was working fine. Apparently I've fouled something up. The sidebar loads fine, runs fine, looks fine. Here is the problem; Gadgets like Pro Weather, or Hermes, where the user has the option of opening up a larger screen to the left of the gadget.. those screens are unresponsive.
For example in the weather app, I click the little arrow to expand the gadget, it brings up the larger window with options to view the radar, or nightly forecasts, or moon phases etc, but my clicking ANYWHERE on that screen is unresponsive.. it just doesn't work. I thought maybe it was the weather app, but then noticed the same thing on Hermes. Hermes is a news ticker. When you hover over a story it brings up the full story in a pane to the left, with clickable links for the actual web story. Again, all mouse input in this pane seems to be restricted, and the links do not work.
I don't recall the exact moment when I lost control of this. Over the past few weeks I have installed / uninstalled Norton AV, and used a utility called 'Vista Manager'. Currently I am running no AV. The Vista Manager program is pretty neat actually. I didn't make any kind of drastic changes with it, but thats not to say it isn't someone related. Maybe it stopped a required service or something? Who Knows.
