When i play any game on my computer it freezes for a couple of seconds and then continues. when i exit the game i get the message " atikmdag has stopped responding and successfully recovered" I have the Catalyst Install Manager on my computer but as far as I know I don't have the Control Panel.. Sometimes it freezes and I can continue playing the game but the game and the rest of my computer looses all color until I restart it. If I log off and log on to another file on my computer all colour returns but when I go back to my file there is still no colour.
When it goes gray everything has weird patterns some vibrant and others not and all words become black squares..My computer crashed 2 months ago and i got it serviced. They said I had a defected mainboard? they replaced it but when I got my computer back I noticed they had also changed the graphics card without telling me? they changed it from a Nvidia 7 series.............

Whenever I play a game after about 1 minute the screen artifacts, go's black then goes back to the game screen. This happens every minute or so.
On returning to windows there is an error notification stating "atikmdag stopped responding then recovered".
I have trailed the net looking for a fix and haven't found anything. I have cleaned the drivers out and installed the latest 7.10 catalyst suite.
My system spec is as follows.
OS Windows Vista Premium 64bit
AMD 64 Athlon x2 6400+
Asus Crosshair MoBo
2 GB pc2 - 6400 RAM
MSI ATI R2600XT Diamond 512mb ddr4 (this is the offending article i think)
700w EZ Cool PSU
I have contacted MSi and ATI/AMD, both don't have an answer to the problem.

I have experienced two instances were Add/Remove in Vista does not remove all the software, so that comprehensive installation of similar software is not possible. The first concerned a Scanner, where Add/Remove would not remove all the software, so that installation of the new Scanner is not possible, until a procedure recommended by the Scanner's makers involving modifications to the Registry is carried out, which I could not possibly do myself, so it means hiring a Professional to do the job!
The second concerns Spellex. Here again the old version has not been removed, so that installation of the latest version is not fully carried out, making the software useless. How can Microsoft produce Windows where such problems occur? What is the experience of others in case this is a fault with my computer?

I have a Vista computer with the following Antivirus / spyware removal programs
- Eset NOD32 v2.7
- Spy bot search and destry
- SuperAntispyware
- Ad aware
- Windows defender
All the software is updated with the latest "definitions"
2 firewalls (1 windows firewall, 1.with the router)
Do I need more software like that to be safe?
I think this is too much software installed to just take care of virus and spyware threats. For it seems like virus is not soo big problem any more. Soo I am wondering isnt it possible to for Microsoft to make something "supersmart" to get rid of spy ware??

[I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit]
I plugged in my Toshiba USB hard drive when I first got my computer about a week ago, to transfer programs and files to the new computer.
Now, for the past several days I have tried to remove it and I keep getting the message, "cannot safely remove it because it is in use"!
It is NOT in use as far as I know. In fact today I started my computer and did not even access the drive at all yet I get the same error from "Safely Remove Hardware".
I have turned indexing off on the drive, on both partitions.
MS sent me a "Hotfix" via email but when I went to install it there were all kinds of warnings with it, basically telling me "use this at your own risk, we are not vouching for this being reliable!" So I was rather afraid to do it.

I have been trying for a week unsuccessfully to remove programs from my computer. I have Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit OS. Each time I try to uninstall a program it tells me that the system administrator has set policies to prevent this. Now I am the only one using this computer and I check and it shows that I am the administrator and there are no other accounts on this computer. Is there anyway to do this?

i can get to remove ddcDwwwW.dll wich in turn contacts some web server and downloads sevral other virus files. Tryied to remove it before internet was turn on but no luck. Got some files wich it downloads as soon as internet is there, but simply cant remove that host file. It slows down internet speed by 98% so online scanners cant reach it in time before it activated another entry for it.
And same with the virus program, since it is in the temp dir i tryied to only scan that dir but same result. When the scan was done after 5 sec for temp dir the file had made 112 new entrys linked to the file so it could not be removed. Every time u tries to simply delete it it makes some other crappy entry and resetts.. Virus program ref to utlrexue.dll and lvlpdtev.dll

I cannot remove a file called tahoma. I guess this is the font that Vista uses? I recently installed Left 4 Dead and later uninstalled it. There was one folder named fonts that didn't got deleted. It contained fonts like arial, verdana and tahoma. I managed to delete all of them in safe mode except tahoma.
I know that you shouldn't delete fonts that the system is using but there is something wierd because it's not in my "fonts folder" from the controlpanel. And the fonts that I deleted succefully (verdana and arial etc.) is still in that folder, tahoma is also there so that's why I'm guessing that I could delete that the tahoma font in my left 4 dead folder without it causing my system any problems.

In Windows Vista, are programs all tied in with each other as they are in XP? What I really mean is this: If I were to go to Vista, can I remove associated programs such as Outlook Express, Internet Explorer and/or other programs which just occupy space on my computer, but which I never use?

To make sure Vista would work with all my hardware and programs, I created a second partition on my XP machine and installed Vista on there (Vista Home Premium). All my hardware and my important programs worked so I thought I'd bite the bullet and upgrade my XP installation on the first partition. That also worked OK (apart from losing all my Music and Videos which I am restoring from backup, at present) and I have used EasyBCD to remove the entry for the copy of Vista on my second partition but I can't seem to delete all the directories and files that are on there. It says I don't have permission to many of them. I also keep Norton Ghost backups on that partition so I don't really want to format it. As I am logged on as an Administrator, why don't I have access to everything? What can I do to allow myself to delete all the Windows files and directories?

I run my laptop at work and the big LAN guys monitor various things that could be suspect. Today I was told that nginx is running on my laptop's IP, occasionally spiking, and making them nervous. I run Windows Vista Home addition and I don't need a server on it. I have been reading that nginx is a web servrer, like apache. Which is all fine and good but I don't know how it got on my laptop, and I don't know how to get it off. Perhaps it installed with some other application? My work thinks it may be spam, adware, malware, or otherwise malicious. If anyone knows how I can remove this please let me know. I've spent the last couple hours on google and all I can find about nginx is that it's a web and mail server, I can't find what apps might use it, and how I can remove it.

Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features -> Installed Updates
There is a listing up recent updates here, with the option to uninstall if I right click them. I would like to delete said entries (without uninstalling the needed updates). I have successfully deleted the update history by deleting C:windowsSoftwareDistrubutionDatastore, but the history really isn't fully deleted until this goes as well
