I am having trouble installing fonts? When I right click on my fonts to install, the drop down box is missing "install" I use to be able to install fonts, by right clicking on the font..but not anymore? I have to copy it to the fonts folder.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need to install SR2 for Access 97 on Vista - Home Basic. While Access 97installs fine, there's a known problem installing SR2 on Vista. Theworkaround that I've come across involves temporarily replacing four Vistafonts (comic.ttf, comicbd.ttf, tahoma.ttf, and tahomabd.ttf) with thoseversions which come with SR2. This reportedly allows SR2 to be installed,after which the four Vista fonts are copied back to the Windows/Fontsfolder.
This procedure begins with copying those four Vista fonts to a temporaryfolder. I am unable to do this, however. If I use cntrl-c to copy andcntrl-v to paste, nothing is pasted into the temporary folder. If I right-click on the font, the Copy command is not available. If I use Edit/Copy and Edit/Paste, nothing is pasted into the temporary folder. Vista will not allow full privileges for these fonts, even though I'm signed on as Administrator.
i have a problem with my vista home premium sp1...i have arun window and other window that the font is now different..its bold and its not the same anymore...i did the appearncae style, system font and nothing worked.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cannot remove a file called tahoma. I guess this is the font that Vista uses? I recently installed Left 4 Dead and later uninstalled it. There was one folder named fonts that didn't got deleted. It contained fonts like arial, verdana and tahoma. I managed to delete all of them in safe mode except tahoma.
I know that you shouldn't delete fonts that the system is using but there is something wierd because it's not in my "fonts folder" from the controlpanel. And the fonts that I deleted succefully (verdana and arial etc.) is still in that folder, tahoma is also there so that's why I'm guessing that I could delete that the tahoma font in my left 4 dead folder without it causing my system any problems.
On vista sp1 FF3 displays huge fonts even though I set them to a small size. With the same settings things are OK under XP sp3.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThe huge number of fonts supplied with my version of Vista (don't know if they're all the same) makes for a very long list in the font box of most of my programs. In there are a WHOLE bunch of international fonts for languages I'll never need. But the system doesn't want to let me move them out of there into some other storage folder and/or delete them - it says I need permission. I looked at the security settings for those files and they are currently owned by "trusted installer". Administrators can't move or delete these files. As administrator, I can grant myself the permissions to let me move them. there is a warning message about possibly making harmful changes to the system. Is there any danger in doing this? Otherwise, any way to mask these fonts without uninstalling them?

There are many more of these strange looking font names in my fonts folder and each font takes up > 15,000,000 bytes. I tried to delete 1 or 2 of them but that's a no can do. View 4 Replies View RelatedI've suddenly got a steep proformance drop that makes playing all my games pretty much impossible.
It usually states when I'm playing MW2. I turn on the game and have no performance issues. I enter a game and no performance issues. The game starts and no performance issues. It's only until around 5-10 minutes in that I experience the performance drop. When that happens, I can't do anything except to hope that the performance goes back up again. Reducing the resolution does not help. Changing my graphics card from quality based to proformance based does not help. Increasing my performance vs power saving does not help. I'm not running any other programs that are using up all the space (How would I? you can't even tab out of MW2 while you're playing it). Restarting the computer also does not help.
Worse still, this performance drop also affects everything else randomly as well.
I really don't know what I can do.
This has happened before, but not for this long.
I have an Acer Extensa 5430 Laptop running Windows Vista 32 bit. I cannot seem to drag and drop on this computer - it always copies the file and then I have to go back and delete the original. Is there a setting somewhere that I can change so that it's moving the file instead of copying?
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy machine keeps dropping the internet after an hour or so of use online. It normally requires me to restart the laptop to get the internet to function again. What is strange is that it still sees my network name but does not allow me to reconnect to it when the internet drops. I went to device manager and disabled and re-enabled the wireless and it brought it back to life. What could be causing this, and is there a fix for it? My dads laptop with vista doesnt have this problem. I have already tried turning off the power save feature on the wireless and also unchecked Qos, ipv6, and both link-layer topology in the wireless network connection properties. Also, I just did a fresh install of Vista to see if it helps and no dice. Also updated all the windows updates, even to SP1 and still no dice.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI kept BSOD'ing due to the patch required to use 4gb of ram to use/install vista (seriously, wtf?). I got my machine up and running. I went from vista hp x86 to hp x64. So my question is this (little backstory): Way back when (3 days agho) I had this setup.My ram would get a rating of 5.6, 5.9 when overclocked. I changed out my ram for g-skill 2x4gb sticks (5-5-5-15), but when one was defective i put my old patriot ram back in (along with a NEW asus-p5ne mobo since my other one died), reinstalled vista x86 and the ram suddenly now gets rated as a 5.1 Fast forward to today. With the 2 gb of RAM (the same 2 sticks that got a 5.6). get rated at a 5.1 again in vista x64. when i added the additional 2gb, i get a 5.3. Now before anyone asks, YES I: changed the timings in the bios to 4-4-4-12 and adjusted the memory to proper voltage (2.2). So FINALLY the question is this --- what would cause a drop in the RAM rating? I know its NOT the motherboard since it got hte same rating on both my p5ne-sli and this new abit board.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHi there, earlier i realised that my vista default font is different, i.e. the font for icons, on dialog boxes and even in firefox etc have got bolder in places and also not as fine.
How can i restore the default fonts? Ive checked the appearance options and it still says they are Segoe UI (thats the default font right?)
I have Vaio Z (1600x900 screen res) and Bravia LCD (1366x768 screen res). I have connected them via HDMI cable (dual screen mode) and it's working "fine".
However, when I view my Explorer/Firefox/Word.. on TV screen (using TV screen instead of laptop) fonts are jerky and hard to read. In Firefox fonts are jerky as well, however images are totally ok, also smiley icons in this forum are perfect .
But everything related to text is messed up/blurry/difficult to read.
I have tried following: in nVidia control panel set TV res to "native" 1366x768 but no changes.
Any idea how to resolve this issue?
EDIT: just occurred to me, as my laptop and TV native resolutions are not the same, should I lower laptop resolution prior connection to LCD?
I have fonts loaded on my Windows XP machine that I would like to install on my new Vista machine also.

I am running Office 2003 on my laptop, and the Fonts file has MANY fonts installed, the vast number of which I do not want. Simple things in life are generally best. In XP I could simply click on any font, check to see if it was required, then delete, keeping the numbers down to a select few. Now in Vista, I am informed that it is not allowed to remove most of the fonts in the file for some unknown.
View 9 Replies View RelatedThe Fonts on my vista install seem to be larger than they should be. When I open dialog boxes the text extend past the edge of the window and gets cut off. The DPI is set to default but the setting also has a strike through it. (see image), also notice the text extending the form. If i change the setting to 120 dpi there is a noticeable difference. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything on this!

For instance, I generally use Times New Roman 12, but it shows up in the display about like a #8 font used to. When I print it out, the font is the size that it should be. (I changed to Arial 12 here)The type of font does'nt seem to make much difference. When I used Arial 12 it shows up a little larger, but not much. I have Windows Vista Home Basic Service Pack 2. Is there a fix for this problem, short of up grading to a modern version of WP?
