Sometimes it fades and you can see the screen behind it. Sometimes there is a band in the middle and the other side is visible with my mouse traveling to it like with a dual screen set up. Is there any way I can find out what is causing this? Everything else looks too good for it to be a graphics card going out?

My friend has an XP laptop and he also as BFME2. The first time we tried playing together, something really wierd happened. I couldn't see anyone else in the chat room or any other games, yet he could see me and my games, except he couldn't join them.
So we messed around with the settings, we tried disabling firewall, running in admin/compat and all that stuff. We forwarded the ports, and turned off our router firewall temporarily. We finally go the idea to create an ad hoc network and it worked first time. What I want to know is why it didn't work when we were connected via the router, as I like staying with the router. It's a pain to get us both on the ad hoc network each time.
I got Vista Ultimate 64 last week and once I tried running Battle for Middle-Earth on it, I get debugs before the game fully loads up. I have no idea on how to stop this and it's driving me insane! I've played the game for 3 years now and I'm staff for the game on another website, I really don't want to stop because of this.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have the (presumably) dreaded "problematic driver" issue on my VAIO VGN-430N/B Laptop. It uses the "stwrt.sys" driver noted as problematic on MS's website for SP1: (SP1 not offered by Windows Update). An updated driver is not available on Sony's website or on the MS Update website.
I suppose the best thing to do is to wait for Sony to figure this out and put the update on their website or send it to MS for inclusion in the MS Update process. Apparently, after that is updated, SP1 will be offered. Funny, Sony support knew nothing about this issue. Told me to try defraging my drive and to try again... sheesh! that's my plan. It occurs to me that this may be a better plan than downloading the full SP1 and trying to "force fit" it into your system. I've read so many heartaches about trashed systems.
Isnt Microsoft up with technology these days? I ordered the Anytime Upgrade from Home Prof to Ultimate, its a download, and I have to wait 5 days? Is this usual?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAlias is smoking double the amount of Has in celebration of another major patch for that INFERIOR Ubuntu that they throw out to the public without any testing. Alias is starting his countdown. Alias can't wait until the next version of Ubuntu comes out in anticipation of bug fixes. In reality, the next version of Ubuntu is just a patch thrown together by unemployed programmers who have nothing better to do.
When the next version of Ubuntu comes out, it will probably have a different brown screen and a few cubes will spin. This will make Alias jump up and down. When you try to do real work, you will realize that Ubuntu still can't run any of the popular software programs and Ubuntu is still worth exactly what you pay for it: N O T H I N G.
Booting from DVD "Windows is loading files... (white progress bar) (takes ~1 minute) Blue/green vista background (HDD and DVD drives are active) (takes 20 minutes for the next screen) I get to select languages, then click on "install now" Next I get a "please wait..." screen (HDD and DVD drives are active) (takes 40 minutes for the next screen) If I'm "lucky" I get this next - "A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing" pop-up and that's as far as I was able to go The same happens with Windows 7, the screens differ a little, and I think the waiting times between these screens a even longer, but it's the same deal
Windows XP installs fast and without an errors
Updated BIOS Tried different settings in BIOS Tried different RAM Switched DVD drive to slave/master Bunch of other desperate stuff Updated the DVD drive firmware to the most recent Checked with Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (no issues found) My specs are in my profile
I have a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. According to Windows Update the computer is up to date yet I have not installed SP1. Do I wait to be offered SP1 via windows update or install the stand alone package. I had a similar problem on my desktop and installed SP1 and got a BSOD and had to reinstall my backup image. I feel a little reluctant to go through all
that again.
I have a Gateway DX4720-03 Vista-64bit PC. Recently, I noticed something strange. The Screensaver always reverts back to 1 minute after booting up. While booting up, I can quickly check the screensaver settings, and the wait time is what I set before rebooting. After the services start on the PC, the time resets to 1 minute. When I check this in Safe Mode, the wait time stays whatever I set it previously, and does not change. How would you go about determining the bad startup program or service that is resetting the wait time?

I have Vista 64bit with a Contacts folder which seems to be totaly impotent as far as exporting. According to the Vista Help it should be possible, but I do not have the Export button! Anyway, all I want to do is to synch my Vista contacts with the Contacts in my phone running Windows Mobile 6.1.
What Microsoft suggests is to buy Outlook, import the contacts into it from the Vista Contacts folder, and upload them into the phone. I tried it with trial Outlook and it works. But I don't need Outlook for anything else, and don't want to buy it. Is there a workaround?

We contacted Acer, but they will not help us they say they only support the hardware with Vista. We need to get XP on our computer. We paid a guy $400 to do this and use our XP disk from old computer, but after about 2 hours all he did was load Parallels Workstation and this does not allow some of our USB ports to work nor does it allow our modem to work at all. Is there some way to load XP directly on our Hard Drive (get rid of vista) and get the drivers for all our hardware to work.

I have an LG VX7000 cell phone and Verizon Wireless Mobile Office Kit VERKULG7000 (USB to cell phone cable and software and drivers for 98SE, 2000, ME and XP. I currently use my cell phone on occasion on my HP ZE5470US notebook computer running Windows XP Pro SP3. I have no trouble using the 3G connection or FAX/Modem connection with the cell connected to any USB port on the computer.
I just bought an HP DV9830US running Vista 64bit SP1. I plugged my cell phone to the cable and the cable into the USB port and Windows Vista can not configure the phone as a modem. This is a huge problem for me since I occasionally need connectivity when free WiFi or other internet/phone connection is not available.
I have been in contact with LG tech support and they say that the cell phone may not be compatable with Vista. LG suggested contacting Verizon Wireless. I contacted Verizon Wireless today and they said that they have had an incredible amount of issues with all of their hardware and software (especially music) related to Vista. Their tech and sales department were not really sure which direction to point me in. Of course, they wanted to sell a phone with internet connectivity built in, which does not help me one bit......
