I installed Halo 2 and when I click to play the game, I get an error that says: Initialization failed. Either insuffecient resources were found to run the game, or game data is missing or damaged. Reinstalling the game may fix this problem. Now I tried reinstalling the game and this error still comes up.
View 8 Replies1.) I don't know if it's important, but "npkcrypt" is apparently either missing or damaged, according to Device Manager..... I imagine there's no file that's missing that can be GOOD, but I figured I'd ask if there's a way to fix that, or it could be relevant to problem number 2.....
2.) Lately when I shut my computer down, 50% of the time if not more often it takes forever to shut down, doesn't shut down, or will but claims that "windows has suffered from an unexpected shutdown"..... even though it shut down because I TOLD IT TO. When it comes back on it says I suffered a BlueScreen, which I've only actually SEEN happen one or two times, but it claims it happens almost every time those other problems occur.
3.) Another thing I would like some aid with, if possible.... there are programs I want to prevent from running when I start my computr, but when I go in to stop them, it won't let me, stating that the scan on them leaves them "unidentified," so I can't make them NOT start along with my PC. Only Microsoft programs are capable of being stopped.... any way around that?
4.) I think the problems with 2 may be related to some downloading done on my part recently, but I have McAffee AND all my windows stuff on maximum security.... not a peep from ANY of them.
5.) When the start-up/shut-down issues started happening a few days ago it also said my CD-ROM driver was messed up, and I thought that was the ACTUAL problem, but when I fixed that, it still didn't stop the Bluescreen issues from occurring. I don't know what to do to fix ANY of this, but if someone does, or could AT LEAST explain what the hell it all means, that would be GREAT.
I downloaded Nod32 which is a virus protection program. I scanned my computer while I was asleep. The program cleaned my computer and everything worked fine. I use a program called xfire which is a messenger program kind of like MSN or AIM. A few hours after the scan was completed I tried to launch xfire. I got this error: "Com Initialization Failed" That is all that the error window says, and the window is simply titled "Error". Once I close the error window the program does show up in my task bar, however it seems to be slightly greyed out. When I right click its icon on the task bar the drop down menu comes up but is entirely blacked out. There is no text or anything it is all black. When i click something in the menu a new error comes up and kind of flashes on my screen, but has no text and not even a title. It is just a small blank window that flashes and then goes away. After that xfire disappears from my taskbar.
When I launch the program after the "Com initialization failed' error comes up and is closed, a strange box appears on my screen. I can only see it on my wallpaper, it doesn't show up on top of other programs. It is a white rectangle that is quite small. Maybe 120 x 40 and in the center of this rectangle is a very very small light blue square. To the left of the light blue square is a larger grey square. I have never seen an error like this before and have no idea what caused it. Other people on the xfire forums have had the same error, but I have tried all of the suggestions on those forums and nothing has worked. I assume nod32 changed something in my settings because xfire always worked prior to installing nod32. I did, however, uninstall nod32, and that did not fix the problem. And yes I am running as administrator.
Just got Vista (32). Battlefield 1942 expansion installed fine. runs for a second or 2 then crashes. Tried to reinstal, same thing. Came up with (game failed, game closing)?
View 9 Replies View RelatedA reboot after yesterday's updates confronted me with an NLS error; booting from the Vista SP1 DVD, Windows RE was unable to automatically correct the error. I then ran a chkdsk /r, which found minor data corruption and fixed it, apparently. An automatic repair still didn't work, so I went to the command prompt.
bootrec /scanos found nothing. However, when i deleted c:ootsd, bootrec /scanos found the installation. I then ran bootrec /rebuildbcd, which found the installation and allowed me to add it to the BSD. However, bootrec /scanos then found no os, and a reboot took me back to the NLS error. Command prompt : deleted BCD, bootrec /rebuildbcd, bootrec /fixmbr, bootrec /fixboot - still NLS data missing on reboot.
I tried an SFC from the command prompt, but it couldn't run, companing about services not running. It appears that all the data is present on the drive; I'd just like to be able to boot!
I recently rebuilt my machine (see system specs) and when I went to pop in my old HDD as a secondary drive to pull some files from it, Windows decided it needed to run chkdsk on it. I tried to stop it, as this is a 500GB drive so I knew it would take forever, but I couldn't stop it. So after a few hours, it finished and let me in, but now all of the files are missing. This was my old C: (primary) drive, so it should have Windows, Users, Program Data, etc folders but it doesn't. it just has a few empty folders (Nvidia, Intel...) However when you check the properties of the disk, it shows that several GB's are used, so I know my data is around there somewhere. Changing the folder options to view hidden does not help. The OS on this disk was Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy APP folder under my user folder and the Program Data folder on Local C: Computer, both just disappeared. They are missing and not showing. My folder options check marks are where they should be. I tried Brink's solution in the registry and my missing folders as well as folders that are showing all look the same as far as data and pathes and stuff.
In other words, the missing ones look the same as the ones that are showing, so what is there to change? They all show %userprofile% in front of them. I don't know what made these two important folders disappear. I just don't know how to get them back. I have Vista 32 bit.
What is best way to identify and/or reload missing dlls? Should the Vista Operating System disc be used? Problem is a game that will not load saves, always goes back to the game introduction. Have tried un-installing and re-installing but no difference. Chat help from Electronic Arts unable to resolve. I think it is a missing dll file. Saved ganes and check points are in "Documents" but something is missing that links them to the game program.

The problem is that, after I move the game folder, even though the game plays perfectly, it disappears from the Game Explorer and I can't seem to get it added back. The specific game i'm trying with is Lord of the Rings Online. (I moved World of Warcraft and it fixed itself instantly). Everquest 1 also disappeared and no matter what I do I can't seem to get it back in the game explorer other than dragging in the exectuable. Is there a way to get the official Game Explorer icon back for Lord of the Rings Online with the full game rating and ESRB rating and all after moving the folder?
View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 on HP Pavilion TX 1250ee laptop. I have a problem logging into Windows Vista. I get the screen up which allow me to select my account and enter a password. Then I get a welcome message. Trouple is it goes no further. The Screen went black with only a white cursor showing. Seconds later, an error showed up saying failed to set data for 'Shell' I've left it for few hours but nothing changed. I did some troubleshooting like testing the Hard Disk using the Built in Self Test in BIOS and everything was pass. I tried to login through safe mode and fortunatlly it's ok. but I don't exactlly know what's the problem? Before it did happen I was creating CD recovery for my computer using the Recovery Manager. Also, there was some updates from Windows which I think what cause the problem. I'm still troubleshooting and waiting for any respond from you guys.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have been having serious difficulty getting my laptop to start in the last few months but have usually been able to solve the problems for a while until they come back but now I am faced with a new boot issue that I cannot fix.
When I turn on the laptop, after about 5 minutes I get the message "windows failed to start because the system registry file is missing or corrupt" and gives this location windowssystem32configsystem and also status: oxc000000f. I am instructed to boot from the vista dvd and repair windows, startup problems or whatever but when I try this I get the exact same message described above.
I have had a lot of startup problems recently but they have always been solved either by booting from the dvd and reparing startup problems, or more commonly, by running the chkdisk which would generally have my laptop running well for a week or so before new problems occurred. I've searched the web but people keep suggesting booting from the vista dvd which as I said isnt working. No matter what I try I get the same message, safe mode etc will also not work.
I boot up my computer today and up pops a message about my bootmbr being missing. I, figuring this was quite bad, stuck in the ol' vista installation disk to run a startup repair. It does its thing, says its successful and tells me to reboot. I do, and get a new message at startup, saying,"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause...

So I figure I'm getting somewhere, load the disk repair, and I get "Startup repair could not repair the problem." along with other steps i should take to "send it to microsoft"() So now i run commands like chkdsk /p,bootmbr,bootfix (I've done this before). NONE of these do a darn thing to solve my problem. (Ive done the F8 thing with the load drivers w/o signatures; didnt work.) So, I figure i should take matters into my own hands. So i open up a CMD, and copy a ntkrnlpa.exe from my install disk and replace it with the one on my hard drive. Logical? I thought so. But same results. Except for one thing, when the repair thing runs again, the details say that the file "pshed.dll" is corrupt. I replace this one, doesnt work, and then says the ntoskrnl.exe is corrupt too.... I replace this one as well, but this one has remained corrupt. I sometimes get a new message when running the startup repair. System volume on disk is corrupt. But other times I get "Boot status indicates that the OS booted successfully." So Ive pretty much used all I can think of, short of booting BartPE and copying my important files and reinstalling. One more thing that happened. Last night (when everything was running smoothly) diskeeper did a boot time defrag. I think something went wrong and this is what is causing all this trouble.
When I tried to make a backup I've got an error message saying:

I've searched the net for that code and they suggested chkdsk, I've done that and ran sfc/scannow with elevated privileges. Sfc did correct some problems but there is one problem he could not repair. I've looked at the log in c:windowslogscbs and searched with the tag [SR] to narrow down, and there was a problem that occured several times.
Windows SIdebar settings.ini is corrupt or missing (64-32bit program files) and when sfc tries to look for backup of the source file it also stated that this one is corrupted. So I was wondering I've someone knows a method to correct this? Maybe if there is a way to reinstall the sidebar my problem could be solved (?) I can't use System restore because I recently deleted those checkpoints, because of an space lack on that partition.

It tells me to insert my installation disc and restart your computer however when I do that I go right back to the previous screen which I just described. I already changed the boot order to boot from the DVD drive first however it continues to skip this screen and keeps looping to the same screen. Does anyone know another way to load my disc so I can continue with the repair?.

View 5 Replies View RelatedRecently I downloaded an icon pack. Well, it turns out I didn't like it, so I tried to change my icons back to the default icons. The problem is that imageres.dll (What I assume to be the vista icons) doesn't have any icons in it anymore. SHELL32.dll is still full, but I am not running XP. So, does anybody have a replacement imageres.dll that I could download? I googled it, but I don't trust any of the sites it turned up. If I can't install another imageres.dll is there another way to fix my problem?

Boot (folder)
Efi (folder)
Sources (folder)
Support (folder)
Upgrade (folder)
Autorun.inf
Bootmgr
Setup.exe
Assuming these are all of the original contents of the DVD, how can I use them to make a new, bootable installation disk?
If the hard drive is damaged, faulty. or just "went out" will that prevent the laptop from starting? Or can it still start? to login etc?

View 5 Replies View Relatedwhen i turn on my computer, an error message comes saying "Windows failed to load because a file is missing or corrupt File: Netio.sys Status: 0xc0000221" This started when i was clearing my computer of useless programs, and after i deleted Realtime player or Quicktime player, (can't remember which) an error message jumped from the taskbar saying something about Network device driver. After that every time i start the computer, the "Windows failed to load" message pops up. The first half a year, it was solved by pressing enter, to "Choose an operating system to start: Windows Vista" and then to "Windows error recovery (start windows normally, safe mode etc)" and back to "Windows failed to start", repeating it 3-20 times. Then i had a familiar "Unexpected shutdown" during a game, and now, the "Enter spamming technique" doesn't work anymore. All i can access at the moment is Windows memory diagnostic tool, and Bios setup utility. Is there any way to fix this through the setup utility or some other manner?

I can sucessfully load up the game and all however whenever i try to join a multiplayer game(says "Joining Server... then crashes" or finish loading a single player game(after the textures are loaded or the shaders it just crashes) OR whenever i click audio in settings my game(right after i click audio it just goes boom) just crashes back to desktop with the BF2142.exe error. I've read about many different crashes with other people but this seems different, people have had crashes during map changes, splash screen, and a few secs after joining the server, havent seen anyone with my problem of crashing when i see the "joining server.." box.

1)reinstalling/repatching
2)run the exe as admin.
3)disable UAC and reinstall/repatch after restart
Im pretty sure my computer can handle the game, my old one did fine and this one owns it. Im kind of lost, I've tried many things and this freaking game just doesnt want to work.
I installed SS2 on this PC (runs windows vista home premium 32bit), but sadly the game won't run correctly. I've looked around a little bit, and I see that not watching the videos is a common problem. But that's not my main problem <:/ I can run the game just fine for about 30 seconds... suddenly, it just freezes. The last sound is looped, and the mouse is frozen.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Vista on a Dell XPS 420. I came home to find both drives failed in a RAID 1 mirror. Dell gave me no help recovering data, but did send two new drives. I have installed Vista on one of the new drives without RAID. I wanted to see if I could recover any files from the failed drives, but I can't seem to get Vista to recognize either of the old drives that were in the failed RAID array. The failed drive does appear during boot up and still shows as part of a failed array. How can I get Vista to recognize the failed drive so that I can then attempt to run file recovery software on it?

Every game I play crashes, or fails to load at all, or gets into the game and crashes during map load. I have Vista Ultimate 64 installed. View 9 Replies View Relatedi can't alt-tab out of a steam game, counter-strike. it's never done this before, and i'm trying to think of what i may have done for this to occur, but nothing comes to me. the only thing i can do to get out of the game is by quitting the game itself, or ctrl-alt-del to task manager. when i go to task manager, it says that the "aero" theme of vista isn't compatible with the game. like i said, it's never had this problem before.
