Installing IDM:Damaged Reg Key
May 15, 2010
I install IDM and try to run it but first a message comes like this saying. "Internet Download Manager detected its registry keys had been damaged since the last run. It's possible that you run a flaky spyware remover program which corrupted system registry. Internet download manager will try to restore all damaged data,But some data may remain corrupted."

Recently I downloaded an icon pack. Well, it turns out I didn't like it, so I tried to change my icons back to the default icons. The problem is that imageres.dll (What I assume to be the vista icons) doesn't have any icons in it anymore. SHELL32.dll is still full, but I am not running XP. So, does anybody have a replacement imageres.dll that I could download? I googled it, but I don't trust any of the sites it turned up. If I can't install another imageres.dll is there another way to fix my problem?

The outer edge of my Vista Business DVD has some scratches which I have not been able to repair so far. However, when I look at the contents of the DVD, I see the following folders and files which I have copied to my hard drive:
Boot (folder)
Efi (folder)
Sources (folder)
Support (folder)
Upgrade (folder)
Autorun.inf
Bootmgr
Setup.exe
Assuming these are all of the original contents of the DVD, how can I use them to make a new, bootable installation disk?

1.) I don't know if it's important, but "npkcrypt" is apparently either missing or damaged, according to Device Manager..... I imagine there's no file that's missing that can be GOOD, but I figured I'd ask if there's a way to fix that, or it could be relevant to problem number 2.....
2.) Lately when I shut my computer down, 50% of the time if not more often it takes forever to shut down, doesn't shut down, or will but claims that "windows has suffered from an unexpected shutdown"..... even though it shut down because I TOLD IT TO. When it comes back on it says I suffered a BlueScreen, which I've only actually SEEN happen one or two times, but it claims it happens almost every time those other problems occur.
3.) Another thing I would like some aid with, if possible.... there are programs I want to prevent from running when I start my computr, but when I go in to stop them, it won't let me, stating that the scan on them leaves them "unidentified," so I can't make them NOT start along with my PC. Only Microsoft programs are capable of being stopped.... any way around that?
4.) I think the problems with 2 may be related to some downloading done on my part recently, but I have McAffee AND all my windows stuff on maximum security.... not a peep from ANY of them.
5.) When the start-up/shut-down issues started happening a few days ago it also said my CD-ROM driver was messed up, and I thought that was the ACTUAL problem, but when I fixed that, it still didn't stop the Bluescreen issues from occurring. I don't know what to do to fix ANY of this, but if someone does, or could AT LEAST explain what the hell it all means, that would be GREAT.

I installed Halo 2 and when I click to play the game, I get an error that says: Initialization failed. Either insuffecient resources were found to run the game, or game data is missing or damaged. Reinstalling the game may fix this problem. Now I tried reinstalling the game and this error still comes up.

I bought vista about 6 months ago, I installed it and everything runs OK. Now i want to have XP AND Vista on the same HDD. I know thats possible with disk partition and i did that but the problem is that i can go further with the installation of my XP home. When i start the installation of XP (press Enter to install XP etc) it asks me to choose a partition, i choose the one i made earlier (25GB of total size). It loads the necesary drivers and it says press enter to reboot(or wait 15 secs to reboot automaticaly). Ok here starts my problem: It reboots, but then i see only a runner and nothing more. ( _ )
i wait for about 5 minutes and it still does nothing, and i dont know what to do. I am forced to fix startup with the Vista installation disk but my XP is not installed. I have searched the bloody web (STFW) and i found nothing, only some data i already knew. You are my last chanse guys. I love XP as much as i love Vista but there is there a way have both OSs without problems?

says you can boot from CD to install Vista 64 however the previous operating system must not be removed prior to install. In my system Win 2k is on a different hard drive than the one I'm installing to. When I start the install process, on the screen where you select the custom option, it says that upgrade is disabled. I assume this means it did not detect my previous OS? I did not continue from this point.
I can install my Win 2k on the hard drive where I wish to install Vista. In the past however, when I had the previous OS on the C: drive and I installed Vista on the same drive Vista would end up on the next available drive letter (i.e. E. Nothing really wrong with this but it's kind of awkward and can't be changed later).

I downloaded Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft website. The installation has gone smoothly up until this point. The screen is stuck on "Installing Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete. Do not turn off the computer." It's been like this for easily over 2 hours now. It's obvious that it's not doing anything.I just need to know what to do. Do I just power it off? Use some kind of button combination? Or should I just yell at it some more?

after installing cs3 on laptop none of the applications will even open up..except for photoshop in which i just get a grey screen and while waiting for something to happen in that one it says "program not responding". so i am in the process of uninstalling(for over 5 hours now)in hopes that re-installing will solve it.
how long should it take to uninstall and when i re-install it if it still doesn't work what steps should i take. i know the basics but am not overly computer savvy....am getting frustrated with not being able to use the program.

According to Microsoft I therefore have to do a completely fresh install to upgrade to Vista, i really really do not want to have to as i want to keep my documents, settings and applications installed. Is there anyway to simple upgrade my copy of windows without having to do a whole new install?

I am having problems installing a 2nd hdd into my pc. I know that i have all the right cables. everythings hooked up correctly. Went through BIOS but perhaps I missed a step or steps. I saw the tutorial on here but it didnt really help me. Can someone please walk me through the process? It's a Western Digital SATA hdd. i think the problem might be with my relative unfamiliarity with BIOS and setting the master/slave system up. Also, should I be using two separate, dedicated cords for the hdds or is the doubled lead out from the power source okay? I plan on wiping the hdd i'm installing and using it as separate storage space.

I am upgrading to Mac as part of my business, however, I need to install a win OS so that I can communicate with my office SBS 2003. I would like to use an upgrade product such as XP Pro Upgrade, but the MAC won't install the upgrade, it needs a full version. I only need the Win OS to run some applications and to VPN into the office, and I need to put it on two machines, so installing full version of XP pro or Vista would be expensive for only part time use. I would like to know if I installed Vista Home if this would allow me to VPN into SBS 2003, run apps such as Office 2003 and Adobe CS3.

Winamp has a few problems with Vista at the moment and if you install with the normal options then when start you will get an error message.
This is due to the Sonic CD Burning/Ripping part of winamp. So when installing make sure to disable this part from the installable options and it will solve the problem.

I've just been offered Windows SP2 via my Windows Update manager. My history on this computer is excellent with regards to updates so I'm inclined to have this update installed. Everything regarding updates is current except for IE-8. My one reservation is that I've declined to update IE-8 in the recent past as I'm a Firefox user and I've seen all the traffic about how cloggy IE has been for some. I tried finding out if Vista SP2 includes IE-8 but am having no luck. Can someone tell me if Vista SP2 includes IE-8? And if so, is there a way to download SP2 but choose not to have IE-8 included.

I know I can only have one registered copy and that's on my computer but is it possible to have a working Vista on a friend's computer but without having to register it? I have the upgrade version of home premium SP1. I remember reading that it's possible to install Vista without registering for a certain amount of time and that the time can be extended. I figure they can't use windows update but I think the Vista HP SP1 by itself is rather stable regardless. I was going to have them use the Windows 7 Beta but it can't be downloaded anymore from Microsoft's site and I don't want to use torrents. They'd have bought Vista themselves by now but with a kid on the way and moving, they can't shell out the dough right now and their comp is acting up.

64-bit Vista Home Premium. Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB970012) is repeatedly installing here. No sooner do I respond to the prompt to install it that a few minutes later it appears again as a new important update. Funny thing is, I don't even HAVE Office 2007. I do however have Office Professional 2003. How do I dispense with this repeated update?

I read the instructions about installing SP1 and found out that three critical updates are needed before installing. I don't have an internet connection and have been going to friend to download things I need. Then I transfer them on a memory stick and install them. I downloaded the three updates, but then found out that there is a problem on some computers with KB937287, which causes the computer to endlessly reboot. Then it was withdrawn from the MS site. So now I am not sure whether to install any of these or not. Then I posted this question on various forums. One said that I don't need the three critical updates if I am installing the standalone version on SP1 because they are included in that version. Another one said I can't update Vista at all if I don't have my own internet connection. I am not sure what to do
