Installing Xp And On Same HDD.

Jun 2, 2008

I bought vista about 6 months ago, I installed it and everything runs OK. Now i want to have XP AND Vista on the same HDD. I know thats possible with disk partition and i did that but the problem is that i can go further with the installation of my XP home. When i start the installation of XP (press Enter to install XP etc) it asks me to choose a partition, i choose the one i made earlier (25GB of total size). It loads the necesary drivers and it says press enter to reboot(or wait 15 secs to reboot automaticaly). Ok here starts my problem: It reboots, but then i see only a runner and nothing more. ( _ )

i wait for about 5 minutes and it still does nothing, and i dont know what to do. I am forced to fix startup with the Vista installation disk but my XP is not installed. I have searched the bloody web (STFW) and i found nothing, only some data i already knew. You are my last chanse guys. I love XP as much as i love Vista but there is there a way have both OSs without problems?

Installing 64 Bit

Mar 26, 2008

says you can boot from CD to install Vista 64 however the previous operating system must not be removed prior to install. In my system Win 2k is on a different hard drive than the one I'm installing to. When I start the install process, on the screen where you select the custom option, it says that upgrade is disabled. I assume this means it did not detect my previous OS? I did not continue from this point.

I can install my Win 2k on the hard drive where I wish to install Vista. In the past however, when I had the previous OS on the C: drive and I installed Vista on the same drive Vista would end up on the next available drive letter (i.e. E. Nothing really wrong with this but it's kind of awkward and can't be changed later).

SP1 - Not Installing

Mar 23, 2008

I downloaded Service Pack 1 from the Microsoft website. The installation has gone smoothly up until this point. The screen is stuck on "Installing Service Pack: Stage 3 of 3 - 0% complete. Do not turn off the computer." It's been like this for easily over 2 hours now. It's obvious that it's not doing anything.I just need to know what to do. Do I just power it off? Use some kind of button combination? Or should I just yell at it some more?

Installing And Re-installing Cs3

Sep 8, 2009

after installing cs3 on laptop none of the applications will even open up..except for photoshop in which i just get a grey screen and while waiting for something to happen in that one it says "program not responding". so i am in the process of uninstalling(for over 5 hours now)in hopes that re-installing will solve it.

how long should it take to uninstall and when i re-install it if it still doesn't work what steps should i take. i know the basics but am not overly computer savvy....am getting frustrated with not being able to use the program.

I'm heavily considering upgrading to Vista but currently i am running the 64 bit version of XP. How Do Installing 2nd Hdd Into PC

Mar 6, 2009

I am having problems installing a 2nd hdd into my pc. I know that i have all the right cables. everythings hooked up correctly. Went through BIOS but perhaps I missed a step or steps. I saw the tutorial on here but it didnt really help me. Can someone please walk me through the process? It's a Western Digital SATA hdd. i think the problem might be with my relative unfamiliarity with BIOS and setting the master/slave system up. Also, should I be using two separate, dedicated cords for the hdds or is the doubled lead out from the power source okay? I plan on wiping the hdd i'm installing and using it as separate storage space.

Installing On A Mac

Aug 3, 2008

I am upgrading to Mac as part of my business, however, I need to install a win OS so that I can communicate with my office SBS 2003. I would like to use an upgrade product such as XP Pro Upgrade, but the MAC won't install the upgrade, it needs a full version. I only need the Win OS to run some applications and to VPN into the office, and I need to put it on two machines, so installing full version of XP pro or Vista would be expensive for only part time use. I would like to know if I installed Vista Home if this would allow me to VPN into SBS 2003, run apps such as Office 2003 and Adobe CS3.

Winamp has a few problems with Vista at the moment and if you install with the normal options then when start you will get an error message.

This is due to the Sonic CD Burning/Ripping part of winamp. So when installing make sure to disable this part from the installable options and it will solve the problem.

Installing SP2 Includes IE-8

May 27, 2009

I've just been offered Windows SP2 via my Windows Update manager. My history on this computer is excellent with regards to updates so I'm inclined to have this update installed. Everything regarding updates is current except for IE-8. My one reservation is that I've declined to update IE-8 in the recent past as I'm a Firefox user and I've seen all the traffic about how cloggy IE has been for some. I tried finding out if Vista SP2 includes IE-8 but am having no luck. Can someone tell me if Vista SP2 includes IE-8? And if so, is there a way to download SP2 but choose not to have IE-8 included.

Installing On Someone Else Computer

Mar 10, 2009

I know I can only have one registered copy and that's on my computer but is it possible to have a working Vista on a friend's computer but without having to register it? I have the upgrade version of home premium SP1. I remember reading that it's possible to install Vista without registering for a certain amount of time and that the time can be extended. I figure they can't use windows update but I think the Vista HP SP1 by itself is rather stable regardless. I was going to have them use the Windows 7 Beta but it can't be downloaded anymore from Microsoft's site and I don't want to use torrents. They'd have bought Vista themselves by now but with a kid on the way and moving, they can't shell out the dough right now and their comp is acting up.

Installing SP1 Can't Installed

Apr 26, 2008

I read the instructions about installing SP1 and found out that three critical updates are needed before installing. I don't have an internet connection and have been going to friend to download things I need. Then I transfer them on a memory stick and install them. I downloaded the three updates, but then found out that there is a problem on some computers with KB937287, which causes the computer to endlessly reboot. Then it was withdrawn from the MS site. So now I am not sure whether to install any of these or not. Then I posted this question on various forums. One said that I don't need the three critical updates if I am installing the standalone version on SP1 because they are included in that version. Another one said I can't update Vista at all if I don't have my own internet connection. I am not sure what to do

Uses All 4GB Of RAM When Installing Software

Mar 23, 2008

I have a unique issue. Whenever I install software such as games or various
programs, Vista will take up all 4 Gigs of my RAM, but in Task Manager - it won't show anything taking up anywhere near that much memory. When the install is finished, I usually have to reboot my PC to get it to free up the RAM.

I tried using a RAM Defrag program called Memory Zipper Pro the last time it
happened, and it saved me from having to reboot. I think this may be a memory leak in Vista or Windows Installer. I had made a post on this issue on Overclock.net, but no one has experienced a similar issue on those forums. Also, the issue was happening way before Service Pack 1 was installed. It started sometime last year after Windows Update made an update one time, but I have no clue which update might have caused the issue, especially since I don't know exactly where the Issue is coming from within Windows

The drive does not show up in the bios no matter how I try. I have switched cables round and ports round - both drives work as do both data cables, as whichever is connected to Sata 1 appears in the bios.

What The First Steps After Installing The OS

Aug 26, 2008

What do you do as the first steps after installing the OS? Here's my first few steps: (This is for my computer, if it was someone elses I'd likely not do much more than install all updates.) Update everything, install all drivers and antivirus. Disable windows firewall - I use a dedicated firewall, I want as much performance for my personal use as possible. Set a fixed swap file equal to the amount of RAM (currently 4GB). Disable UAC - It's MY computer, it should not annoy me. And if I get some crap, then I reinstall... Set CD drives to the last drive letters (Y: and Z: currently). It's become a habit. Install NKProds nCleaner, Auslogics disk defrag, Auslogics registry defrag - Cool stuff. Use my computer. I may have forgotten some steps here, I hope not.
